Packer Week.

Friday, December 2, 2005 | Jeff

A year ago I almost commissioned a cast-iron statue of Lovie Smith for my front yard in Jersey after he beat the Packers early in the season - at Lambeau. Today I sit with a different agenda.

I want to win. And I want to win decisively.

Because for the first time in the last decade and without even the slightest shred of doubt, the Chicago Bears are a better football team than the Green Bay Packers.

I know #4 has won ten straight in Soldier Field. But going 10-0 against Dave Wannstedt and Dick Jauron is like beating a dead man in a 50 yard dash. Just show up.

We go 13-3 and lose twice to the Pack. But we knew then that team wasn't very good.

This team is good. This defense is great.

Don't let up. Don't sit back. Send the house and punish #4 for ten years of abuse. I send out notice.

Notice to Thomas Jones: I want 125 and a touchdown.
Notice to Kyle Orton: You throw this one away and I'm going 90-10 in favor of Grossman.
Notice to the O-line: Make sure the two afore-mentioned individuals are taken care of.
Notice to Wale and Alex: He's yours. Hurt him.
Notice to Mike Brown and Chris Harris: If there's a receiver running down the field, you stay on top. Do not let these receivers behind you.
Notice to Brian Urlacher: 15 tackles. Create a turnover. Earn the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Notice to Lovie, the two Rons and the 53: If you think this is something that qualifies as a "trap" game, you're out of touch. I'll take a win Sunday over a win in Pittsburgh next week every single day of the week for the rest of my life. The stadium will be full of people's who heart and soul will be hanging on your performance.

Chicago: 30
Green Bay: 6

That's what we want. And after a decade of this, we goddamn deserve it.

Word!

How can anyone think this is a trap game? What was Lovie's first goal when announced as the Bear head coach? Beat Green Bay. If the Bears can't get up for this game and stomp on these cheesy weenies then he sucks. I highly doubt that any Bear is over looking this game. So much in fact that I believe we are going to get mauled in Pittsburgh cause we will be on a Packer bashing induced coma of bliss.

Go Bears - Bears 27 - Pack 10

30-6? 27-10? What Kool-Aid have you guys been drinking? Granted, I've predicted disaster several times this season and been (gratefully) wrong every time. But Brett Favre is going to burn Tillman et al for at least two TD bombs. The man has done it over and over and over and over ...
What we have to hope is that he also sticks with this season's form and also throws a couple (or more) picks. And in Green Bay territory at that, so what passes for the Bears offense can pull off a couple of its patented 23-yard scoring "drives." Or that Vasher or Brown just run it back themselves and save all of us a couple dozen hypertension points.
The defense has to win this one (again). But the defense ain't gonna score 30 points, and for sure the offense can't ... Bears should win, but the margin will be closer to 3 points than 20.

YES! That's what I'm talkin' bout! I don't know if 30-6 is possible. The 6 certainly is. But 30? We've only done that once this year--against the Lions. Also like beating a dead man in a 50yd. dash. I'm thinking more like 17-13. That'll be good enough for me. But I would sure like to see them sack Favre like thye did Delhomme--8 times.

Bring it.

p.s.- cool blog--just found it.

Bears: 23
packers: 13

i say 3 turnovers plus good kickin from maynard and TJ gets rolling in the second half. although, im not sure on conditions up there. I think if its nasty weather, then i say bears 10-3

I'm basing my prediction on the fact that I feel that TJ will really get loose. I'm not expecting Kyle to light up the sky with bombs, but a TD to Moose is not out of the question. I think turnovers will give us good field position and that we will score three touch downs and two field goals. I think this team is hungry. And it will show what we are made of. If we kill them we have proven that we are a team on a mission. If we lose or we squeak it out, we have proven that we don't believe yet. I think we believe.

20-16 Bears

For Green Bay and the passing game, I expect that this game will go similar to the way it did for Tampa Bay. Favre/Driver hooking up like Simms/Galloway. Sam Gado will eat it here - he will feel the power and realize the NFL is a bitch. GB will get close enough for a FG four times but Longwell will miss once giving them 9 and they will find a way to put a TD on the board too. GB gets 16.

For the Bears, I look for slight improvement from the O. After all it was too windy against the 49ers and the Panthers and Bucs have respectible D. I don't see the O getting on a role here and ligthing it up but I think they will be able to sustain drives better than they have in the past. This means Gould will get more opportunities. I look for Orton to crack 200 this game and Jones/Peterson to break 175. I think the Bears will get 2 honest TDs and 2 FGs for a toal of 20.

I want it to be a bigger trouncing than that and if it happens it will come from a Favre pick or special teams punt/kick return for TD.

This is the game that Favre realizes that he is better off retiring...

Go Bears - beat the Packers! Payback times have arrived.
