As We Approach The Draft.

Saturday, April 22, 2006 | Jeff

A few cocks and testicles ruminating out of Bears land that are worth mentioning:

There are internet rumors about a possible trade of Thomas Jones to the Colts for their third round pick this year. Pertaining to this, there appears to be a clear divide on the issues in Bears land with Lovie wanting Jones in Chicago and Jerry willing to look into the deal. DABEARSBLOG and its writers are vehemently against this trade and believe for a team so offensively challenged and dependent on the run to trade a terrific player like TJ is a huge mistake.

The Ricky Manning offer is supposedly not going to be matched and I think it's a smart move. This front office has done a terrific job in the last two seasons and they ought to be cheered. They have no glaring needs now on the defensive side of the ball, except possibly some depth at safety which they might be able to look at late in the draft (where they found Chris Harris).

There are rumors about the Bears leaving the first round altogether. Remember, they're going to lose their third round pick in the Manning offer so if they could get that back and add a pick in the deuce, it'd be nice.

The Lance Briggs conversation will re-start next week but Drew Rosenhaus can not ask for more money than Brian makes. The guy is the face of the franchise. Look at what Brian makes, drop a couple bucks, sign the deal.

I think we should win a Super Bowl with these linebackers and than all of us, when we're really old, will sit around and say things like, "But Hillenmeyer! Hillenmeyer was the unsung hero!"

Mark Bradley. Bernard Berrian. Do we really want to draft another second tier wideout that'll take three years? I say we focus on upgrading the tight end position and if there's a wide guy in the deuce, grab him.

Your thoughts?

i just don't see how it's a plausible football move. unless we're giving them thomas jones and getting reggie wayne back...

for a second round pick, you might consider it but the colts pick so late in the second round, i can't see us getting anything of thomas' caliber there

i think this plays to the idea that tj believes he'll lose his job in camp.
