Most of this is bullshit since the only people who report from Bears rookie camp are da Bears. Needless to say the Bears like their rookies and I gotta say - I might too.
J.D. RUNNELS
Big Larr on ChicagoBears.com says J.D. is faster and more athletic than Matt Suhey (and that guy was the shit). With fullback being an essential part of the Ronny T offensive system, it'd be nice to a fullback with the ability to catch the ball and make something happen. Watch JD at the goalline.
DEVIN HESTER
The Bears were very impressed with his kick-catching. If he holds onto punts, he's a sever upgrade.
DANIEAL MANNING
I get scared when the big report is that the guy's a "serious study" and that he "always has a notebook." I'm not big on intelligence in my football players, especially my defensive backs. I like speed and I like toughness. Does he have those?
DUSTY D
The mantra is repeated and repeated: he's tough a shit. He's also a recovering alcoholic and I like the whole package. If he can adequately substitute into the line rotation (beside Tommie, Ian and Fonsy) he'll help this team immensely.
MARK ANDERSON
The Bears had great luck getting Alex Brown late and rumors are they may have done it again. I hope so becaue Michael Haynes has been horrible coming in as the third defensive end. (IS Michael Haynes still on the fucking team? What a terrible first round pick...) This is the guy I'm going to watch closely in camp to see how he battles the Bears real good offensive line.
TIM DAY
The undrafted tight end from Oregon is supposedly making something of an impression on coaches. I happen to think that Des Clark can make plays with the ball in his hands (as does the loyal Max) but Day might give them a little more size in the middle of the field. I'm an old school guy. I want a Mark Bavarro not an Antonio Gates.
All in all, I'm sort of excited about the draft class and we'll know more when camp begins this summer. Anyone who has heard anything else, please let us know.
#2 jeff said . . .its ok jeff, manning didnt get into nebraska cause his SAT scores were to low, so you dont have to worry about him being overly smart. . . although the question about speed and toughness is still out there. and yes, ill hold out for clark. when he graduated from Wake Forest, he was the all time leading receiver in ACC history. im sure its been eclipsed by now. . . but come on, hes still gotta remember how to catch the ball! . . . theoretically
