Camp Reports

Thursday, June 8, 2006 | Jeff

Just ran through the articles in the Suntimes, Trib and Daily Herald...also checked around the national sites (full props to CNNSI and ESPN)

QUARTERBACK
Griese looks good and everyone is mum on the idea of a quarterback controversy. But I'll be anxious to see the first preseason game or two. If Griese outperforms Grossman by any significant margin, it wouldn't surprise to see him square off against Favre the first week of the season.

RUNNING BACKS
First, Thomas Jones wants a re-structuring of his contract and I just don't see how he can leverage that with all the money being spent on Benson. I can see TJ pulling a holdout this summer and trying to force the Bears into a trade.

No healthy fullbacks right now but the rookie Runnells is starting make strides to take the job.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Mark Bradley is running routes and looks good. He's having mental problems but I haven't heard any reports that he's a moron or anything.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Roberto Garza is ahead of Terrence Metcalf at guard which is interesting. There's some good depth at the position.

DEFENSIVE LINE AND DEFENSIVE BACKS
Lots of youth, lots of talent.

LINEBACKERS
Lance Briggs came to the voluntary and I think this contract is getting done. Everyone wants it done.

Anybody hearing anything else?

Comments

#1 Reverend Dave said . . .

QB:
No matter how good Griese does Grossman has the job till he gets another season ending injury. Even if hes horrible they wont pull him at least weeks 8 or 9.

RB:
TJ might skip voluntaries but that is it. Unhappy or not he saw how Bill Polian soured on him when he held out and will work his ass off this season looking to maximize his chances next offseason.

WR:
What mental problems is Bradley having?

OL: The battle between Reuben and Terrance is great. They are going to be running over people late in games.

DL / DB
Ive been reading good reports about the Mannings.

LB:
Where did you read Briggs came to the voluntaries? Last I heard hes been skipping. This contract needs to get done, and before the season starts or that guy is gone.
