This isn't the time for Jerry Angelo to be fucking around. This isn't the time for the Bears to continue with their "we like what we've got" attitude which resulted in drafting "depth" and continued confidence in an unproven quarterback who hasn't had a great football performance since he was slapping his weiner in Gainesville co-eds.
Deion Branch is a winner and a damn good football player. He is a Super Bowl MVP. The best player in the NFL thinks he was the essential part of the Pats dynasty.
So....
1. You call Scott Pioli and you offer them a first round pick in 2007. This is going to be a late pick that you'd just blow on some Division I-AA kick returner anyway.
2. You call Jason Chayut and you work out an extension for Deion Branch. This is Adewale Ogunleye all over again. You were brilliant in that deal and it's time for you to rock out hard on this as well.
I'm not gonna list all the positives that would come from making this deal. This is a single player that can make an entire team better. Not marginally better. Really goddamn fucking a lot better.
This isn't the time for Jerry Angelo to be fucking around.

Branch, a refined route runner with a flair for the dramatic, was given permission to seek a trade as negotiations remain stalled on a long-term extension. Bears observers believe Branch, if acquired, would quickly become the No. 1 receiver and a reliable target for QB Rex Grossman."
STOP FUCKING AROUND, JERRY.

#12 jeff said . . .Not gonna happen. He is more likely to either end up in Minnesota or see the Patriots match the market offer made by someone else and bring him back. Either way, unfortunately, the Bears will be without Branch. Angelo is much more likely to go out and try to rejuvenate a Detroit reject like Charles Rogers or Mike Williams after they get released. At this point either would be better then Berrian, Gage or Davis while Bradley recovers.
August 29, 2006
#13 Superbowl Bound said . . .Wow. I have to disagree that Charles Rogers and Mike Williams are better than anyone. Bernie B has worked his ass off and played hard. Those two are head cases and jerkoffs and can't succeed with the most prolific offensive coordinator of the modern era...Martz.
The Patriots, according to ESPN, would take a first round pick. He's there to be taken...but we need to be aggressive.
August 29, 2006
#14 jeff said . . .They may be arrogant jerks but they are also much more talented then Berrian will ever be. Berrian in his third year has yet to impress me. I think he would be a number 3 or 4 at best on most decent teams. Marinelli and Martz stepping in needed to shake things up and those two are perfect examples. Getting cut may be enough of a wakeup call along with a new team environment to get one of them back on track. Something tells me a primadonna attitude around Kreutz, Urlacher and Mohammed isn't going to go over well.
August 29, 2006
#15 reverenddave said . . .I don't know if you could say Berrian hasn't shown just as much as those two guys at the pro level. But it is sort of like comparing very little to less.
I am excited for Bernie this year. I hope he has a breakout season. I think the addition of Deion Branch would allow him to be the burner that he is...allow him to effective in three and four wideout sets.
August 29, 2006
#16 jeff said . . .Slightly unrelated news. Dusty is put on season ending IR. What the hell was going on with him this preseason? A minor foot injury that he played through on Friday against the Cardinals has suddenly become serious enough to put him out for the season when we are currently thin as hell on the D-line?
Seems like there should be more to it.August 29, 2006
#17 jeff said . . .I think it's a smart move. Dusty wasn't going to play much and putting him on IR keeps him in the organization for the year and allows the Bears to keep Haynes or Garay on the roster at defensive tackle instead of an injured tackle.

#19 jeff said . . .Bears bears bears.
Deion Branch is gonna put us over the top? I don't want to pay him what he wants. small undersized WR. he worked well in Charlie Weis' offense (at times). I wouldn't pay him squat.
Shoot, the Lions are gonna cut Charles Rogers, I would rather have a 6-2 burner (no pun intended) who is 25.by the way. any Papa Bear fans out there:
look at this place. its FN sweet.

#20 Bears Bears Bears said . . .Disagree with that comment. If you'd rather have Charles Rogers than a guy who is arguably the best Super Bowl receiver, outside of Jerry Rice, in the last 20 years...than I can't have a viable conversation with you about football.
6'2" burners who suck. Great.
August 29, 2006
#21 The Duke said . . .WHOA! Did you just compare Deion Branch to Jerry Rice? Branch worked well within that system. I can't see him jumping from that team to another and being super bowl MVP esque. Az Hakim was great in the run and fun of the rams offense. and then he left....and ..... ya.
I don' think he is worth it. The lions are gonna CUT rogers. therefore, no compensation.
rogers was just an example.August 29, 2006
#22 jeff said . . .what happened to Rash Davis? I thought he was having a great pre-season? Did I miss something?
August 29, 2006
#23 Max said . . .Jerry Rice was brilliant in the Bill Walsh West Coast offense with Joe Montana and Steve Young. Without argument the most brilliant offensive system of all time.
Deion Branch isn't Jerry Rice and I didn't say that. Why would anyone believe that a guy who was a Super Bowl MVP and a brilliant post-season performer isn't better than a player who broke his collar bone two consecutive seasons and supposedly is struggling to pass Az Hakim to make the Lions roster? You ARE NOT ALLOWED to kill Deion Branch's PERFORMANCE and offer Charles Rogers - who has NO PERFORMANCE to speak of. You're right. You give up nothing and that's exactly what you get in return.
August 29, 2006
#24 jeff said . . .I BELIEVE IN DAVIS! Branch is a solid wide receiver who would be a good improvement at that position. Rodgers has been slowed by injuries. He would be a good pick if we didnt need help now. I say the first round pick for Branch is a better deal than Rodgers for nothing at this exact moment. We need a receiver who can come in, learn the offense and go out and produce now.
Plus, Rodgers would probably have an attitude problem despite Kruetz and the rest. I am not saying Benson is an example of this, but he hasnt exactly meshed with the team one might say

#37 big rob said . . .The fact of the matter is, as long as the McCaskey's are the ownership and Angelo is the GM, the Bears will never make a bold move in an attempt to win right away. The Bears ARE the source of income for the McCaskey family...unlike most other NFL Owners (Snyder, Jones for example). In order to maintain a steady income from an NFL franchise you need to build though the draft and pay players under their market value while they are still in the early years of their contract (see: Briggs 750K, pro bowl). They are sooo clueless when it comes to signing "marquee" players that the last 2 times they did it, they totally screwed it up (See: Muhammed and brian Cox). We are fucked until a corporation comes in and buys the Bears, period.

#39 Max said . . .We have an impact player/burner just sitting on our roster without a spot. Devin Hester can play receiver and he is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. I understand working him in as a returner/ CB but he should be getting some reps in practice or preseason at WR. He is gonna amaze everyone as a returner and then they might finally try him as a WR In Miami's last bowl game they had him lining up as WR and even HB.
