That goes for me too.
There wasn't much to like and/or love on Friday night in San Francisco. I'm not going to go crazy for Brian Griese and Rash Davis against a second team defense. Remember how well Kyle Orton played last preseason?
I'm not going crazy about Rex fumbling snaps with a backup center playing.
I'm not going crazy about ineffectiveness of a running game without a couple a starting linemen and a third-string back in the game.
I'm not going crazy about a defense that didn't seem revved up to play their first preseason game.
A couple of things did happen last night that you have to start considering:
1. Grossman has to play better
If he doesn't, we'll see him benched during the regular season.
2. Charles Tillman may get beaten out by Ricky Manning Jr.
Tillman is going to get picked on this season if last night's first two drives were any indication.
3. No one is going to win the second receiver job
It's going to be a platoon over there, no doubt about it.
4. I need the regular season to start
Now.
#2 Sanchez said . . .nothin good out of that game orther than no one got hurt.

#3 Sanchez said . . .Good points. Except I am not sure I agree about the emergence of a #2 WR. I believe that one will be selected if for no other reason than to establish rhythm and consistency. I like Davis for this pick and this is not solely based on last night. I think he has the Rudy factor and for that the coaches love him. Let’s not forget the speed and his AFL experience. Is it possible? Could he be our Steve Smith or Santana Moss? Needless to say, whoever it is has to catch the damn ball. The Bears passing game was deficient last year because of bad passing AND bad receiving. Even if Grossman brings better accuracy (where the hell was it last night) it won’t matter if they drop it or aren’t making the extra effort to get to the ball.
I can forgive the offense for last nights performance based on the absence of a number of key players. When it comes right down to it I have the same concerns as last season; QB and WR. Next week better show improvement. If I were Lovie, I might be thinking this. “Ok, let’s see what Grossman does next week. If I get more of the same, I am demoting him before the regular season begins. Is this sensible or crazy? I am not a pro-Griese, but don’t you have to see Griese in game situations with the #1’s? Another potential Lovie thought. “Hmmm, maybe I really do need Lelie?
Some good news. The D looked pretty good against the run. Some bad news. The D looked bad against the pass. Tillman freaks me out – is he the guy? I don’t think so but I am not ready to see him demoted. The D didn’t impress or depress me so I guess that is ok – looks like another top-5 D which is all you need to get to the Bowl!
Let’s not forget that the team doesn’t spend hours and hours trying to figure out what the opponent is going to chuck at them either; at least not as much as they would for a regular season game.

Things I forgot
1) Hester - the return game could get real interesting this year. He made me sit up in my chair a few times last night.
2) Maynard and Gould are safe - there doesn't appear to be real competition for either.
