Thomas Jones is back running with the first team offense.
Cedric Benson walked off the sideline before the end of the Chargers game Friday night and reportedly wasn't at the team's post-game meeting.
And now begins the battle we all paid to see.
So I ask you now: who will be the starting tailback come Green Bay on September 10th?
#2 Superbowl Bound said . . .Okay, now I'm pissed off with the RB situation. What Benson did was totally unacceptable and now I believe he is selfish, immature little primma donna. Jones should--and I think will be the starting RB. Jones missed VOLUNTARY workouts and lost his job. Benson missed MANDATORY game time and post game locker room meeting. To be consistent, Bears coaches MUST demote Benson to second team and elevate Jones to first team. If they don't, there will chaos and mutiny in the locker room in my opinion. If Benson is truly a man, he needs to suck it up, swallow his pride and apologize to the whole team. But I doubt he will...I hope I'm wrong here. If I'm right, I say trade Benson to the Jets for a first round draft choice.

#3 jeff said . . .They will both see plenty of action against Green Bay. Jones will probably get the nod, if for no other reason then I don't think that Benson will see more then a couple carries in the last preseason game. As far as who starts... Who cares. I am more then happy to have them platoon as long as they are both productive. Give me 150 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns a game between the two of them and I will be a happy camper.

#4 Rob said . . .I just want production, not friends. I could care less about behavior also...I just want production.
The minute we start scrutinizing these guys for the things they do NOT between the lines, we open a Pandora's box that never shuts.
Run hard, run fast...score touchdowns.

#5 Noah said . . .With all due respect to Superbowl Bound and Jeff, I have to disagree. Case in point--last year's Philadelphia Eagles and T.O. saga. You saw how that tore that team apart. Team chemistry IS IMPORTANT. See the New England Patriots. How many Superbowls have they won recently? Their team chemistry is excellent. It can make a big difference. We need to at least care how it is handled and get it resolved.

#7 Superbowl Bound said . . .T.O. can't be cited here. The Eagles imploded because T.O. wasn't on the field, not because they didn't like him. Have you ever heard an Eagles player outside of McNabb disparage T.O.?
I think you forget that two of our players got into a fight at a shooting range where one hit the other in the head with a weight. Much worse than anything T.O. did. We won 11 games.
And as for the New England Patriots...the trickle down is happening as they don't want to pay anyone. Branch pissed, Brady pissed, Vinatieri left, Seymour held out...They won a bunch of Superbowls because they had great players where great players were needed and they had the best coaching staff in any sport of the last fifty years with Bill, Charlie, Romeo...
If Cedric's an asshole and behaves like this, it will have no impact on the team for two reasons: 1. They have other running backs, one of which ran for over 1300 yards last year. 2. I think he'll run with his middle-finger up to his teammates...and if he does that for 100 yards a game, I'll go fuck myself too.

#8 The Duke said . . .I think it comes down to this with Benson. Teammates are angry because he got paid a ton of money and because he held out last year. Added to that may be his attitude at times. In hearing his comments, I think his feelings have been hurt big time and that he is pissed off. He's a kid. Think about how you acted when you were in your early 20's. I agree with Bernstein's comment yesterday, that this whole thing could stop instantly if Kruetz stepped up and said he is our teammate and you all need to start treating him like one.

#10 jeff said . . .This story has grown a life of its own, just the same way Jones supposedly was holding out for more money and wanted to be traded. Its all pre-season hype! Who cares that Benson broke a team rule? He's not breaking the law, he's not cursing out children and punching grandma's in the face. He left the sidelines, period. This hasn't cost them any games, nor will it. If you want to see a soap opera, watch daytime television. I'm tired of all these psudo bears fans crying about BS. Put down your white wine, step outside the Cadillac Club and remeber what it was like to be a Chicago Bears fan.

#12 jeff said . . .If chemistry is important, then we should be worried that players are leaking this to the media. If there is a problem within the team, then it needs to be settled within the team.
That said, I am so happy that TJ has the starting role again. Barring injury, I don't think he will be relinquishing this spot for the remainder of the year
