Tell Me Who to Draft

Thursday, August 24, 2006 | Noah Brier

We all know the football season is coming and with it comes the monster that is fantasy football. I pretty seriously considered retiring this year to full-time Bears fandom, but then I realized that would mean I couldn't go to the draft and that's really the best part.

Anyway, I'm taking the same approach as last year and doing as little research as possible.

So, I figured I'd tap into all of you . . .

Who should I draft for my fantasy football team?

Give me sleepers, obvious, ordered, do not drafts or whatever else you want. One note: I will not be drafting any Packers, so you can leave them out.

Yes Jeff, I already know that Jason Witten for the fourth year in a row is your sleeper pick.

Pretty big question, that. I'd like to predict that The Duke wants you to take Cadillac.

For the first time in my experience with fantasy football, I will not be hellbent on drafting Priest Holmes. . . and this makes me sad.

So I say LT if you have the number 1 pick. Larry Johnson is missing his fullback AND his Pro Bowl tackle Willie Roaf, and Alexander is on the cover of madden.

Take the Bears defense with the first pick. Fuck fantasy.

Nah Jeff, I'd actually go with Cadillac in the second round of fantasy. The only reason I keep bringing him up because it just kills me that we could've had him at #4 in the real draft. Compared to what Benson has done for us so far.

How many teams in your league Noah?

I'll give you my sleepers at each position:
QB: Drew Brees
RB: Frank Gore
WR: Kevin Curtis
TE: Ben Watson

What do you all think of Arizona this year? I'm not sure and want to know what you all think. They got very good WRs and Kurt Warner plus now EJames. But also hear they still don't have an O-line. What are their fantasy values? Yes, I know we'll get a glimpse of this on Friday night.

One additional tidbit for you out-of-town Bears fans like myself. It looks like the NFL Network changed the time of showing the Bears vs. Cardinals replay from Saturday to Friday night at 10 PM central time. Set your TIVOs accordingly if you'll be out.

For what it's worth Noah, I'd say if you're lucky enough to get LJ, LT, or Alexander in the first round, grab a stud wide reciever in the 2nd before getting another RB in the 3rd. If you don't land one of the first three picks, grab two RB's in round one and two and then a stud WR in the third if Palmer or Brady are gone. After that, don't draft a TE in the 4th unless Gates is available. In my opinion, 6-7 solid TE's should be available through to rounds 7 and 8. Bears D is obvious, they single handedly won games for my fanatsy team and the Bears last year. I like Jeff's sleeper QB in Brees. He's got something to prove with his new team, and I think he's got a little extra f.u. for the Chargers in him. No one talks about Delhomme as a stud fanatasy QB, (Probably because he tore as a new one in the playoffs last year) but with the addition of Keyshawn, there's no reason why he won't light it up even more this year.
Good luck!

This is way better than research.

Alright, so after the big 3 rbs (LT, LJ, SA) who rounds out the top 10?

After those three I like Tiki Barber and I think I think you change level of running back: Cadillac Williams, Rudi Johnson, Clinton Portis (if healthy), Willie Parker, Ronnie Brown, Edge, Steven Jackson....then the Willis McGahee, Julius Jones crowd....

All of these guys after TJ, CB, AP

I'm going with Nathan Vasher . . . I hear he's got a lot of ballhawk.

I'd definitely put Lamont Jordon in that group.

Vasher definitely has more ballhawk and I would recommend that you take him first in your draft, assuming you are one of the top picks cause he wont last long. Even if your league doesnt use defensive backs, use him as a wr and he'll still give you 5-6 tds this year.
