The drama is over.
You wanted a quarterback battle? No. Rex Grossman is the starting quarterback and will be unless his healthy gives or his regular season performance cost the Bears victories. Until then Brian Griese will remain the best backup quarterback in the National Football League.
You wanted a running back battle? Thomas Jones missed all of training camp. Cedric Benson missed the last half. Adrian Peterson got all of the carries. It looks like TJ will be the only of the former two to play a preseason down. We've got a stable full of wild horses, kids, get ready to watch them all run.
You wanted a second wide receiver battle? Too fucking bad. This summer has been about the emergence of the Rash Davis as both return man and slot producer. Bernie B Bad and Mark "Don't call me Bill" Bradley failed to mount much of an attack and all evidence points to a shared #2 role come Green Bay in under a month.
But hey...we can sure as hell play defense. Will it matter if we can't score points?
#2 jeff said . . .It won't be long before Rex Grossman throws twice as many picks as he does TD's just as he has done in his pathetic limited playing time during the past 2 seasons.
For some reason he is our starter, and clearly unqualified to be so.
Yes Brian Griese is the Best backup QB in the NFL, but don't worry he'll get plenty of playing time. I give Rex Grossman 2 weeks regular season before he either gets injured or pulled out of the game due to an embarrassing performance.
No doubt Lovie loves his defense and loves the running game. Da Bears have the best three pronged attack in the NFL with Jones, Benson, and Peterson.
Just a prediction - Avg points allowed per game by Da Bears Defense at the end of regular season = 10.2 points

#3 FrustratedInChiTown said . . .10.2 would be legendary. I'll go somewhere between 12-13 because of the inevitable short fields the offense will put them in weekly.

#4 jeff said . . .I like this Bear's Fan in TN guy. He's right about Rex, but I don't know about 10.2 points. I hope he's right, but if we can't score, it won't do us much good, especailly in the playoffs. If we are going to be sucessful in the playoffs, we'll need to complete with the offensive powerhouses.
What kind of coach doesn't put his best players on the field every Sunday? I don't understand...

#5 Superbowl Bound said . . .I can see us back in Orton territory come Week 4. We'll be 3-0 in division DESPITE our quarterback and half the sportswriters will be saying "don't change, you're winning" while Mariotti calls for Griese each week.
A loss v. Green Bay to open the season would be disastrous.

#6 olga said . . .I think it is interesting that last week during the game the announcer's made mention that Griese has the highest QB rating of any Chicago Bear QB ever. File that one under "things that make you go Hmmmm..."
