eREXion: Volume 2

Thursday, September 28, 2006 | Jeff

Rex Grossman was named NFC Offensive Player of the month today.

He is the first Bears offensive player to be named to the award since Neal Anderson in 1989.

Every seventeen years, boys, every seventeen years.

Also, if you get a chance, check out Inside the NFL this week. They show the highlights of Bears/Vikings with commentary from eREXion, Moose, Dez and Tommie from the interception thru the Rash TD catch. Pretty cool, actually.

I am glad Rex won the award for the sole purpose of reminding Bears fans that Neil Anderson was truly a great runningback. Granted, injuroes prevented him from putting up huge career numbers, but for a short stretch from the late 80's to early 90's he was very reliable and productive. I have fond memories of some huge runs against Green Bay and of course, the overtime deep catch against the Lions. It is weird how he has totally dissapeard from the Chicago landscape when players half his quality still associate themselves with the team, but I am sure that is how he wants it.

Nicely said, Brian. Anderson is really the only glimmer of offensive hope this organization has had post-Walter Payton. He essentially followed the greatest player in the history of the Bears and he did so with professionalism and conviction. Someone should show Cedric Benson tapes of the guy both on and off the field. (And the Detroit catch reference made me very happy.)

Fun fact that's actually fun: Neal Anderson went to Florida.

Both were Gators! I'll forgive them.. Neal Anderson made up for it with his NFL experience while a Bear.... I wish the Bears as a whole were better then.. If only Ditka and Buddy Ryan could have learned to get along!

Let hope this early season honor doesn't go to his head or jinx Da Bears! I really could care less about individual honors, because it takes more than 1 man to get to the Big Show! And that 1 man depended on others to accel in the fashion he did.

Lets hope Desmond Clark is healthy and soon, Rex likes the over the middle routes and utilizing his tight end, Desmond Clark has proven that he has great hands, and I can assure you Muhsin Muhammad will see some double teams with the stats he's been compiling.

Keep up the good work Rex. When in doubt (or under extreme pressure) throw it out. Take the sack or get out of the pocket and ground it. We can't have the turnovers this week against the defending champs.

Lovie get your game on!

Question -- how far back do you have to go before finding the last Bears _QB_ to be named NFC Offensive Player of the Anything? Sid Luckman? Did they even have that award around when he played?
