We're Back, Baby

Monday, September 11, 2006 | Jeff

I walked from the corner of 18th and Avenue C all the way to 45th Street and 9th Avenue this morning. I wore #54. I felt like that this morning. I got two high fives along the way. One guy yelled, "Best linebacker in the game!"

The other guy, quietly, resigned, dignified: "We're back, baby."

And make no mistake about it. We're back. But today I'm not going to write about how terrific Grossman and Moose were. How a gutty Charles Tillman hung in there throw after throw. How Ron Turner called the game of his life. How Robbie Gould has become automatic. How fun shutouts are.

Today is about Jerry Angelo. Because yesterday was about Danieal Manning, Mark Anderson and Devin Hester. Manning is going to become an absolute star and could have had two Favre picks. Anderson made the most of his time in the D-line rotation and was flat-out unblockable. Hester went 84...and iced it.

I've killed Jerry and I'm sure I'll kill him again. Yesterday he shoved my criticism right up my fucking ass.

And you know what? I liked it.

NO ONE is happier with yesterday's game than I am but I am not willing to give Angelo the GM of the year award quite yet. Let's not forget, this is the same guy who has total busts for 3 of his 5 1st round selections and this is the guy who thought not bringing in a solid backup QB last year was a good idea. His draftee's looked good yesterday, but I honestly think we win in spite of Jerry Angelo, not because of him

One follow-up note regarding Angelo......one of our main NFC competitors made a significant upgrade today. The trade the Seahawks made for Dieon Branch was the move Angelo should have made...it only cost a pick ranging from 24-30 in next years draft. This will be a move we wish we made.

The Bears did look fucking awesome yesterday though!

Did you see Roy Williams said the Lions will beat the Bears Sunday. What's he smoking? Did anyone see the spoof of the man laws on Fox Kick off Live? Was that Big Kat Williams?

I'm with you there, Brian. Branch would have been a good move.

Alright, it's been like a 12 hour Jerry lovefest, time to go back to hating the guy.

Angelo has shown he knows how to draft late. . . but he hasnt proved he can pick in the first round.

And no, thats not Big Cat Williams. . . although it woulda been really sweet if it was

Great point Max. Angelo has a list of first round busts and I'm afraid Ced will be added to that list.

And are you sure that's not Big Kat??? Kind of looks like him.

if deion branch was signed, we'd be down to one pick on the first day since we lost a third for ricky manning. i don't know...

winning in spite of jerry is a bit harsh: he drafted tommie, lance, tank, alex, vasher, signed ruben, tait, miller...

As far as Angel-A-hole goes, I cant complain right now. D is ridiculous and our O is comming around it seems... so as much as id like to kick him in the nuts, I have to give him a couple weeks.
On another note, being in the Chair Force I get to go watch games at the sports bar on Base. I gotta tell you guys the elation that I had watching a pair, (yes only two) Packer fans at the bar (the rest knew to stay home) suck down beers watered down in tears was, how you say, FRIGGEN GREAT!!!!
Now why in Gods name would Roy Williams say, no, GUARANTEE an undisputed win, at Solder Field at OUR home opener? Did he get hit harder than anyone saw?
