I rarely just use this space to post a link but you should all read Mike Downey's column in today's Tribune. It gets to a lot of what Meggles was talking about in the comments. There is no more Bears offense and Bears defense. There is only the 2006 Chicago Bears.

In today's NFL, so few teams seem to be comprised of a group of players who have each other's back. It looks like we got one here, kids. This is a TEAM. I'll say it again. This is a TEAM. The Cowboys would have crumbled already. Keyshawn Johnson would have thrown Jake Delhomme under the bus (and probably has) weeks ago. Look at the Giants! When's the last time our defense even respected the signal caller, never mind defended him in the press? This defense believes in its quarterback and does everything it can to get the ball back in his hands knowing what he's capable of doing with it.

This team won't crumble. This team will fight together. And that's why we're going to win this conference.

Seriously, we can clinch the division in the first week of December. How can you complain about that?

And not only clinch it, but against the Purple Spike Heads. Yeah! As for football players being temperamental. All I have to say is it's 90 percent is temper and 10 percent mental.

Jeff- this is sad if you are going to censor things on this site just because you don't agree with them...If I think Grossman should be benched, I have the right to state my opinion...

i didn't say i was censoring. i said i want to. i can't stand broken record whining about a 9-2 football team. and your opinion has every right to be heard but we're talking about brian griese!!!!!!!! if you bench rex grossman now, his career here is over.

John, you are allowed your opinion. If it proves to be right, we can all sit back and say, "Oh John, you were right."
I don't want to speak for Jeff or any other person who whole-heartedly opposes your opinion, but why waste valuable blog-space with you whining?
There is no viable option at this current time if the Bears were to bench Grossman.
They have a 9-2 record, the team supports him. Why would you want to ruin the morale of the rest of the team, who are professionals by the way, who know a helluva lot more then you do about who should/shouldn't play. Mariotti sits at his computer and makes opinions, it doesn't mean they are right or make sense.
Why, when we are about to clinch the division, in the middle of a 9-2 season, with the team stoked, willing and supportive of each other would you want to pull the rug out from under them and negate all the hard work they have put in to a major part of the season?? Right now, it's a matter of adjusting the playcalling, not a matter of
reworking an entire offense in a 9-2 season! I didn't mean to go on a rant, there, or maybe I did. Did you know that we were 9-2?

agree with meggles. i'm of a different mindset than a lot of bears fans. you've got a team and you want THAT team to play well. if lovie decides to go to griese, i'll have an opinion on that but cheer nevertheless for the guy throwing the football. John'll be the same guy cheering if Rex goes out there and throws three scores and wins the division sunday.

This is not a democracy, this is a Bears blog. Get back in the bread line.

I will say this.
If you would have told me in August that the Bears would be 9-2 right now, I would have said, "Oookay, psycho."

If you would have told me in August that the Bears would be knocking on the door of the division title, I would have said, "Seriously, do you think you're from the future or something?"

If you would have told me that the Bears would have gone 2-3 on that East coast swing and been competitive in the game we lost, I would have said, "So you're saying you can travel through time and you only went 3 months into the future?"

If you would have told me that the Bears would have to shit the bed to give up home field in the playoffs, I would have said, "No seriously, you can go into the future and what you came back with was the Bears' record? Go back and get me some stock tips, a hoverboard, and let me know if I can still get it up when I'm 90."

And if you would have told me that Rex would be inconsistent and still learning after roughly a season worth of starts, I would have said, "No shit Doc Brown."

I'll tell you how we can be upset Mr. Downy. Rex has 20 picks in the 20 games he has started. Also we lost to the 1-6 Dolphins after blowing shitty teams out. As Hunter Hillenmeyer said in the column...."We set the bar high"....yeah you did and so you should live up to it and not lose to a shitty dolphins team. Or how about kicking the shit out of a 2-9 Arizona team, not barely eke by them. Also I think if Griese is the quarterback against New England last week, in the same situation, we win. He probably doesnt throw 3 picks either. I am a Rex supporter....I know I have just bashed him a bit but his potential is great. If for some reason we need to score 21+ points in a game to win we need Rex and his ability. Otherwise we saw what we can do with even Orton for god sakes. Thats why each game and situation is unique, last week I think we win with Griese cuz he doesnt turn the ball over 3 times. Other games Rex aint losing no matter who the Bears play cuz he'll throw 4 TDs. Hindsight is always 20/20 isnt it. In a game like last week, I wish the Bears would have played a bit more conservatively.

the bears also beat up a good seattle team before hasselbeck went down by over 30 and beat the hell out of the giants in the second half throwing the football...rex has proven he can manage a game and did it in the meadowlands...you don't beat everybody in this league! the colts could just as easily have four losses....they barely beat the jets and the titans this year....the chargers squeaked one out of the raiders....why? those teams have defensive issues and defensive issues don't sell newspapers....quarterback issues do.

NFC North is clinched after a win this week... Thats right ... What more can you ask for?

ILL TELL YOU WHAT... A QB THAT DOESN'T REMIND US OF HIS STUPID MISTAKES AT EVERY PRESS CONFERENCE.

Let's face it The Chicago Bears are undefeated and Rex Grossman has three losses.

His inconsistency and lack of poise is and will kill us.

Let's not forget what happened to us against the Panthers last year... Besides the break down in the secondary..... Rex had not enough positive palys and to many negative.

We need consistency now and especially in the playoffs. I say work Griese some snaps when Rex either screws up or gets a commanding lead. We may need him come crunch time.

Hats off to the best Defense in the League!

TN Fan how 'bout that loss to the Panthers.
The secondary did have problems and you can't set that aside so you can blame it on Rex. How did you like the play calling to start the game, six passes and no running plays. Good game plan? Rex's fault too?
How dare they let him get experience while actually experiencing a real game. And do it while winning, them bastards!
I'm looking for a complete ass-whippin, it's that time again. At home, D-line comes alive, and Brad Johnson leaves in a neck brace.

What is this? Disneyland? Neverland? The "Bears are a team?"
How cliche can you get?
I thoroughly enjoy watching this team every week, but can we get realistic please. Grossman shone when playing some pretty weak defenses and has shuttered against some of the tougher D's.
The Defense has come through, because that's what we need them to do until Rex gets some serious seasoning.
I am not calling for a change at QB, nor am I overly worried. He needs to be efficient, not turn the ball over and we can roll.

The offense might not be as spicy, but the D is def. shades of:

Lets be real here though, I mean if you had told me before the game against the Panthers that our offense would score twenty one points and we would still lose, I woulda told ya that you're full of shit. Rex played good for it being the playoffs. Our D just got worked by Steve Smith.

#19 jeff said . . .

You know when it's not cliche, Patrick? When you look around the NFL and see team after team in disarray. Peyton throws the o-line under the bus after the Pitt loss. T.O. Strahan. Keyshawn. Forgive me but I like teams. I like knowing the guys out there got each other's back. I'm old-fashioned I guess, strange for a guy my age, but I am. I hear a defense defend its quarterback and makes me root for them even harder.

The Fan in TN doesnt know what he's talking about, Im not sure he even watched the Panthers game. I thought Rex showed a lot of poise and did as good a job as anyone making his 8th or 9th start (whatever it was) of his career against that defense in the playoffs. The Bears put up 21 for fucks sakes! The DBs had quite a lapse that game, all of them were Steve Smiths Bitch that day. We cant replace Rex, we have to ride it out with him.

ALso can everyone start letting go yet of the 85 Bears, ahem...Patrick. Let it go, man, this is 2006 not 85. Let it go, Let it go, Let it go, Let it go, Let it go. This team hasnt done shit since then and its about time we do.

Rex Scha-mex: As Mike Mulligan pointed out in the Chi-Times: the Bears beat Vikes then we win the NFC North Title. At which point, we all need to pause, raise a glass at a fix point in time as decreed by Jeff, and recite a toast out loud that needs to be posted on this site. (something like: The only place we win a game is on the field, the only place you can lose it is in your hearts: salute!). IMO, this ought to be freakin' mandated.

After that & next up will be looking toward top-seed and home-field-advantage. But first things first: Bears need to bloody up the Vikes with hit-block-run fundamentals and "win...just win... just win".

As I said way back when the Bears first played the Vikes; the diner I eat breakfast at each day has an owner who's a Viking freak. Walking in and giving him a rash of $hit is worth a lot to me. Run it up Rex your my man and I am 100% behind ya!

DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

I WILL SAY THIS!

Put in any quarterback that doesn't turn over the ball, and the Bears win! Period.... Conservative Kyle Orton proved that last season....

The only good performances by Rex has come vs weak secondaries (yes even the beatup, injured Giants).

Rex has a good longball with the ability to go vertical when there, but tries to force the opportunity.

Need I remind you, 18 turnovers in 6 games! and two of those were descent performances!

Still he has the mindset that he had at Florida. Big play or no play.

I strongly feel that Lovie and Ron need to make him earn his starting spot, becasue Griese won't turnover the ball!
