Those of you who know me know I've been secretly coveting Jeff Fisher to become the head coach of the Bears for about a decade. I am resigned now to the fact that it's not going to happen. Now, Jerry Angelo, is the time to extend Lovie Smith as the head coach of these Chicago Bears until the end of the 2009 season.
By now...I mean today. Wednesday November 15th 2007. Because something happened at halftime in the Giants Stadium visitors' locker room Sunday night. It changed the course of the 2006 season and - at least in my mind - skyrocketed Lovie right to the top of the Coach of the Yeart conversation.
Something happened at halftime Sunday and the Bears responded with a thirty minute, 28-7 masterpiece that ranks right up there with the team's finest in the last twenty years. Everyone in that stadium knew as Moose plowed into the endzone at 8:29 left in the 3rd that the ballgame was over.
The Bears were Da Bears. Pay the coach.
#2 Nate said . . .Personally, I'd kind of like to see them wait until we get a couple playoff wins under our belts. Just to see Lovie go from worst paid to best paid. Thinking beyond the Bears, I'd like to see a black head coach at the top of both performance and pay. It would be that much sweeter that he works in Chicago.
I agree with you, though, that Jeff Fisher in Tennessee is a goddamn tragedy. I suspect the Tuna is going to quit after this season and Jerry Jones is going to try to make Fisher an offer he can't refuse, but I just don't see him going in for another control-freak boss. I think he's going to enjoy Glendale a lot more, and the Cardinals will be much better than we thought they were.

#6 jeff said . . .I say they wait till the season is over. Now is not the time to be fucking around arguing about money. Now is the time to concentrate on the next game.
Lovie knows what he needs to do and knows that success is rewarded within the organization.
A Super Bowl win will bring a lot more cash than an 8-1 record will.
Wait.
Take care of things and things will take care of themselves.November 16, 2006

#8 jeff said . . .I just heard that Lovie smith had told the front office he wasn't interested in an extention right now and said he would wait until the season ended before talking extention.
I also read the Dallas Cowboys may be interested in Lovie down there to replace Parcells after this season.
An annonymous source said the Cowboy brass had already made a decision to replace Parcells and the name that keeps getting tossed out there is Lovie Smith.
It somewhat make sense because Lovie being a native Texan had said in the past he would like to coach the Cowboys someday if the opportunity came his way.
Don't know if its true, but something to think about.

#10 eastvillage said . . .Lovie knows he will get paid when and if he gets a playoff win or two. Last years pathetic performance against Carolina kind of makes me say lets wait to see what Lovie can do in the playoffs consistently against good teams. Lets also keep in mind we lost to the fucking dolphins at home, I just cant let that one go. After that poor performance just two weeks removed I'm not ready to give the bank yet. And now we play another tough AFC team this weekend. I wouldnt go to sleep on the Jets cuz they have been in every game they've played and they beat the Pats last week. If we overlook them, we will surely lose. I'm telling you all it will be a much closer game than you all think. We need Chad Pennington on his ass early in that one. But I'm sure thats what Jets fans are saying about Rex. CMON BEARS DONT FUCK THIS ONE UP SUNDAY AFTER A NICE WIN LAST WEEK. Why do I have the feeling I'm going to need to watch this game with a nightlight on?

#11 jeff said . . .I was at the game and when the Giants closed the gap late in the third quarter, there was a sense that the game was NOT over. All I'm saying, I'm not sure halftime was a big deal.
The Giants deciding to kick a 52 yard field goal was a big deal, though.

#12 Midway Monster said . . .they'll take care of business sunday - the jets just don't have the offensive weapons to stay in the game...sunday more than any other game is about protecting the ball on offense and let field position dictate the pace...

#13 jeff said . . .There is nothing like returning to the same stadium that you just had a win at, to take on another team. IMO, these Jets are dead (Bear) meat. If you have to be on the road, familiarity is an asset; so there is no home field advantage this week for the Jets.
Bears will take this "North East" tour one game at a time. Next in the cross hairs: NY Jets. Tickets Please... All Aboard!
