''It looks like the gates of heaven just opening up for me,'' said Heaven Devin.
Put Alfonso Soriano in #23 because its foolproof in the city of Chicago. I wrote it a week ago and I'll say it again now: Devin Hester is the most exciting Bears player since Walter Payton.
And last night...for the first time this season...I thought about the Super Bowl. Devin gets his second straight Blog Game Ball.
#2 Megan said . . .I hope Rex was mic'd.
Did anyone notice his eyes were closed on his 20-yeard run? I was watching his lips and he was saying, "beep beep beep beep beep."

#4 Midway Monster said . . .I hope all this shit about Rex stops now, he had a solid performance and didnt turn the ball over. No more calls for his head. You know most teams wouldnt have put up with Rex's poor performances for as long as the Bears did, he would have been benched 2 weeks ago on other teams. This is because they cant afford to give up the amount of QB mistakes Rex made, especially if a team is around .500 and needs solid QB play. It makes me think that there a lot of solid QBs out there like Rex but they havent been allowed to play thru their funk becuase the teams will not stick with them as long as Lovie stuck with Rex.
Also, Could we maybe get to the QB once in a while? That would be nice. And Robbie is not as good as Gold, heck he's not even as good as Gould (can be). What better than the perfect dome conditions to make FGs and yet he and Wilkens blew some FGs, maybe Robbie is just rusty but this could be a big concern.

#6 Hester 4 President said . . .The Bears have issues on defense. 3 Weeks in a row where team offense was over 300 yards, and Bulger went over 300 on his own.
The injuries are catching up, and I hope they can fix it before the playoffs.

#8 Jerry said . . .I agree about the defense. There seem to be a lot more hole out there these days. Three good weeks ahead to fix our problems and a week off after that to get healthy. Good work Bears, solid victory over a sub 500 team. Lets coast out it style.

#9 The artist formerly known as Pissed Off said . . .Paytonrules makes a good point, the defense has given up quite a few yards recently. Prior to the Pats we were in the mid 200s on average for yards given up, which is normal for better than average teams, though we spanked the Bills with only 145 given up. It is probably due to injuries, how many 'duhs' am I going to get on that?
I was pondering that maybe the injuries are a direct result of our defense being on the field for so damn long but the numbers do not bear that out. Besides enduring 40 minutes on defense for games with the Pats and the Cards, all the other games were either a wash at around 30/30 or we had significantly more time on offense.
Have we changed something on the defense scheme? I mean something other than adjusting for injuries. Are we getting in the predictable rut? I think we have a hellava defense but we have gotten chinked hard the past three weeks, giving up in excess of 1100 yards.
The remaining schedule truly favors us so we are in an excellent position to fix what we need before hosting our first game of the playoffs.

#10 Pat said . . .Hey Jerry, dont forget the Vikings game where the D was on the field for 40 mins too. What happens is Hester returns a punt or kick, or Rex has been turning it over and the D has to get right back out there. I think if we had Vasher (and Todd Johnson) last night, it would have been a different story. Todd is more disciplined than Harris and Vasher wouldnt have been burned on the TD to Holt like Hester was. He's a great return guy but pretty lousy as a DB for now. I'm not the least bit concerned about the D as long as the O is producing a bit too. When it counts they will tighten up. We were without Johnson, Vasher and Tommie last night not to mention Mike Brown. We just need to get Vasher and Todd back. I would also like to say that I hope Ian Scott gets back to form, he was a starter here for the past few years and his job has been usurped so I hope he can fill in admirably for Tommie. If he gets back to his form of last year or earlier this year we wont see much of a drop off at all from Harris.

#14 jonathan said . . .Doggone it, I mistyped, it was the Cards and the Vikes, not the Pats and Cards. Hell, our defense was only on the field for 29 minutes against the Pats.
You are right on the money in the one or two plays and right back on the field is/has taken its toll.
I felt bad for Hester in that Holt knew he had him and Hester was not going to stop Holt. But damn, doesn't that kid come back strong, in your face touchdown!
I think we are going to be alright defensively, shoot, we have the next three weeks to put our playoff defense together. Though we should never take an opponent lightly. We do have a very favorable schedule the rest of the way.
Yes on the 'O'! We don't need no stinking 80 yard bomb every first down, just some nice conservative plays and, maybe once in awhile to keep the defense honest, a bomb to Bernard or Mushin.

#15 Adam from Pittsburgh said . . .I share everyone's concerns about the D. They looked really slow in the first half, somehow they'll have to fill in the gaps...
But Hester, holy shit Devin Hester, let me write you a little ode:
You are the destroyer of souls, the touchdown lightningbolt that sinks the ship of hope for all who stand in your path. Can you imagine being the Rams? It took you 6 and a half minutes to march 99 yards and burn Hester on a touchdown pass. THIRTEEN SECONDS later on the game clock, Hester shoves it right down your throat.
This is like spending a full election cycle researching candidates and carefully selecting your vote, only to have some high school dropout from bumfuck vote for the other guy and cancel out all your efforts. Not that Devin is any kind of dumbass from bumfuck, but the demoralizing effect he delivers is the same.
He'll break your back just when you think you have a chance, then ice the game just because he can.
The only downside is that the defense never gets a rest...

Could this be it? Could this really be the end of the 'Gross, Man' media blitz? I think everyone is fucking sick of hearing about it. We all know what kind of QB Grossman is. We all know that benching him for Greise could have possibly wrecked the Bears franchise for years to come. He can play solid when he calms down. He's a big play guy in an understated offense. He just needed a little bit of taming. (And the threat of losing his starting job to Drew Beldsoe's bastard brother.) Grossman wasn't the story on Monday night.#16 TFitz said . . .Devin Hester is from another planet.
Are teams even going to kick him the ball anymore? He's making people look silly. Even without adequate blocking. Don't be suprised if he does it three more times.
I miss Tommie.
And Nathan. The defense got gashed last night. The hurry up killed them. Not that it mattered in a meaningless fourth quarter, but nonetheless, it was not a stellar performace. Sacks would be nice?
The reamining schedule is a joke. The Bears will be at Soldier Field in January with a first round bye. Dangerous.
Who will honestly be there to challenge them? The Cowboys? Get in Tony Homo's face and he coughs the ball up in the cold weather. The Giants? We already know how that one ends. The Seahawks? Yeah, saw that one too. And they just lost to the Cardinals this week. The Eagles? Haha, okay. The only real game that the Bears could possibly be faced with would be against the New Orleans Saints. A dome team in Chicago in January does not sound like a lock to me. Good game; Bears win.
Instead of dwelling on the Grossman nonsense, let's look at where the Bears are headed.
Looks like Miami.

#17 Starbuck said . . .My friend told me this one earlier, I am not sure where he heard it from:
Don't buy Devin Hester anything for Christmas; he'll just return it.
December 12, 2006
#18 Pissed off said . . .I would not sweat the defense right now. If you check the 3rd quarter stats, when the game actually mattered, the defense only let up about 30 yards. In the fourth quarter, especially after Devin ran back the second kick, the Bears were running a lot of prevent as well as blitzes and some of the Rams gains could be characterized as garbage yards. I would give the defense time to heal - the return of Vasher and Johnson will be key.
The real question that remains is whether the offense can sustain drives in the playoffs. Only time will tell...

#19 Megan said . . .Though we have a first round bye we still cant sleep on our next three games, We dont want to go to N'alins for an NFC championship game if it comes to that, New Orleans will probably win out giving them four losses on the year, we need to win 2 of our last 3 to solidify that the NFC representative to the super bowl goes thru Chicago. New Orleans here....we win baby!

#20 Still said . . .I have a feelling that the O will spend more time on the field if the upcoming opposing team's special teams peeps have anything to say about it. If they are smart, they won't be kicking to Hester.
Our defense will more then likely be giving up more yardage, we have key people still out or out for the year. Briggs and Urlacher were tired puppies at the end, they really gave it their all. I loved watching Jackson TRY to avoid Urlacher.. that was sweet!I do want to say one thing that I didn't agree with in regards to Hester.
I am so cool with him running that kick-off back 6 million times to Sunday, I can't stand that showboating. I know he had an incredible game, but he could have had a "taunting"call, especially with the way the refs are cracking down on that stuff. AND, what if he had dropped the stinkin' ball as he was prancing into the end-zone, carrying the ball with one hand?
I know thinking about that stuff sucks, all of you are probably gonna give it to me for even mentioning it.
I'm proud of that whole team. They all stood behind Rex, cheered him on, patted him on the back and encouraged him. Every part of the team contributed as well if not better then they could.

#21 Onside Kicks said . . .I agree Megan. The only thing bad about Hester (and I mean the ONLY thing) is that he has too much of that Miami U ethic.

#22 Jerry said . . .They Guy is amazing...It will be really interesting to see how teams handle him in kickoff and punt return situations, and what I am even MORE excited about is Lovie Smith's promise that they "WILL get him involved on offense" -- man, that is going to be excitig to watch!

Megan, you are right on point about the showboat shit. Not to take shit away from Hester's talent but take a lesson from LT or Griese, it aint about you, it is about the team. Can the showboat, you will get more respect from others and from yourself when all this comes to an end and it will.
Go Bears!
