Let Them Know Why You're Wearing the Crown

Friday, December 1, 2006 | Jeff

It's Friday and I'm feeling good. Real good. Because I'm pretty certain we'll be celebrating our second straight division championship under Lovie Smith on Sunday. I'm sorry but I just can't take for granted the Dick & Dave Eras of Ineptitude. Let's hope Lovie walks off the field Sunday and Jerry Angelo hands him the keys to the kingdom.

And just when I pontificate on my beloved team, Cedric Benson goes and runs his mouth again. You want to know why Cedric is talking? Because Thomas Jones has quietly put himself just 55 yards shy of a thousand and is knocking on the door of the NFC Pro Bowl squad. I called for Cedric to be the starting back and What's New Pussycat shoved that up my ass. Cedric, in two years, the town will be yours. Relax.

But we'll leave two years for two years from now. Sunday is about 2006 and another division title. I don't think the Bears are going to be afraid to run the ball on what has been a terrific rush defense, especially with Pat Williams out for the game. I think Rex rebounds but hope Ronny finds ways to o get the ball in the hands of Mark Bradley. Bradley's greatest asset is his ability to make things happen with the ball in his hands on the perimeter. Establishing that early could open up the middle of the field for Moose and the Des Dispenser.

Bears 23. Vikings 9.

And wherever you are. Whatever you're doing. Whoever you're with. Sing.

This should be the perfect game for Rex to regain some rhythm and confidence. He should have short fields, no pressure to put a lot of points on the boards, and the Bears will need him to contrbute for them to score. This is a test for Grossman, but it's a really easy test, which could be just what he needs.

Bensen is a butt-pirate. His teammates hate him and he only does things to make this worse. He held out as a rookie which is a terrible start. He walked out of a practice (or pre-season game, cant remember) and his teammates told on him to the coaches. There's a reason that TJ gets lifted off the ground by Olin and the O-Line after every run, while he has to get on all fours and do it himself. The defense likes TJ because he was the one on offense that gave them a break by getting occasional first downs in years past.
Cedric, I am watching the game and I like the way you hit holes and drive through guys, but you can't block worth a damn. Don't be so selfish, smile occasionally, help out a teammate, and shut your mouth.

There should be no problem getting up for this game. Chance to clinch the division against a team that almost beat you at their place, bad blood in that game, coming home after three weeks and a tough loss, half the fan base dogging you, most of the national press dogging you...

However, there are some lingering questions:

Who will be the second enforcer to punch Troy Williamson in the mouth in as many weeks? Will Steve Hutchinson get a nice whiff of Tommie's balls while getting run over, or will it happen too fast? How many Grain Belts will Brad Childress need at the Brass Rail to ease the pain? What kind of a name is Mewelde anyway?

Bears 50-6.

Does everyone remember when Thomas Jones almost broke Antoine Winfield's (CB) ankle with a sick move during the first Vikings game. Winfield is still looking for his jock.

Here is a highlight reel of the season thus far. Gets me pumped up.

Hey Jeff your pretty quick to give Lovie a lifetime contract. I like the guy too and what he's done but isnt it a bit early to be saying things like that? Has he even won a playoff game yet? UMMMM NOO! Lets see what happens this year and if he and the rest of the Bears can find a way to fuck themselves in the playoffs yet! Man I like Lovie too but I cant believe your ready to praise him that much. Lets see what he can do yet this year and over the next couple, lets see if he can keep the team together, you know there will be a lot of big names on this team with expiring contracts in the next few years. GEEZ!

On another note, I think Rex will have good bounce back game, I expect it. What if the Vikes come in ready to play? No question the Bears should roll the Vikes like they do every year in Chicago but lets not forget what happened the last game we played in Soldier Field....to an inferior Fins team like the Vikes. Yeah, great outcome there. I like the confidence but by losing to the Fins I may have to second guess every Bears game the rest of the year. And thats not fun for me as a die hard fan. If the game was at least on the road I could get past this Fins game but man, it was just a month ago. I hope the Bears come out and show that we can once again beat inferior teams handily.

the bears under lovie smith have looked like a better football than any bears team in 20 years. to not re-up his contract now and let him go would be a pure mccaskey duct-tape-over-the-pockets move. who are these big name coaches, besides jeff fisher (who i love)? big name coaches that become available become available because they stunk somewhere.

since there's another John around here I will go by the name of jdawg.

Anyway, does anyone else here get the Sporting News and did they read the brief article in the NFL section on Alex Brown? I'll recap:

Brown's eating at a restaurant before the Jets game with his agent. A kid comes up to ask for his autograph and Brown strikes up a 20 minute conversation with him. It turns out the kid and his dad drove up for the game but hadn't been able to get tickets. Brown excuses himself to the bathroom and leaves the kid with his agent. When he comes back he asks the kid how his grades are. The kid says they're OK. Brown hands him two tickets and tells him to try harder in school.

I know he didn't even have a tackle last week but we need more guys like this around.

I know I hate those Purple Faggots in MN, and I hate em even more when they come to the Windy!

The Vikings lack speed in there secondary, which in essence should be "showtime" for Rex and Berrian.

I look for The "big play" to happen twice, as long as Rex gets everyone in the game forcing man to man.

Should have a nice 1-2 punch with Jones breraking 1000 and Cedric hitting the 100 mark.

I say we win 30-3, The defense really needs to represent if you know what I mean!
