Your 2006 NFC North Division Champion Chicago Bears.

Mission Accomplished!! But man, what is with these guys? The offense dissappeared and the defense got gashed by a bad team. I'm nervous. Obviously everything points to a progression so we peak in the post-season. So here I am at my rock bottom point of the year, after a win no-less, wondering if we were better off with Orton last year. Someone please tell me I am wrong.

that was brutal brutal rex. after the second pick i finally made the move. i'm off rex for the year.

everything else about this team (defense, special teams, running game) is just too damn good to blow with a QB who has no regard for possession. Griese isn't a star, but he's exactly what they need this year.

The Bears have a better chance to win it all this year with Griese than with Grossman. Nothing else matters (age, arm strength, experience, commercials with Moose, etc.)

I want Lovie to make the move. There are four meaningless games left to get Griese in and used to the system, and I'm betting it only takes a few quarters. Do it Lovie, grow a pair and do what's right for your team THIS YEAR.

the NFC is garbage, you have to go for it all right NOW

Hey- your blog is awesome. I'm in the military and just happen to be stateside this year so I can get the NFL ticket. As one of your contributers said a couple of weeks ago, I'm a bigger Bears fan than anybody on the team or coaching staff. Your website is great for keeping me up to date on everything. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Go Bears!

Like most post, I agree that Rex is not our guy. Not because of his bad decisions, and there are plenty of them every game, but because of his presense or lack there of in the pocket. When he's doing great or if he's the Rex we've seen over the past 5 weeks, you will notice that he is never comfortable in the pocket. He doesn't know how to step up and even with completions he'll throw off his back foot. As the weather gets colder and the wind picks up he will be worse and worse. Also, he's a weakness. Teams know they can get to him and therefore get to the Bears. I see the way the team looks when they get a turnover or Thomas gets a good run then Rex steps up and throws it away.
The Bears won today with the WORST QB in the league. How do you have a QB rating under 5.
In summary, we don't need Rex. When he was great we won by 30. When he is terrible we can be beat by the worst teams in the league. We put someone out there that won't lose the game for us and we have a chance at taking it all. Rex plays great when we don't need him to play good. And plays terrible when we just need him to play ok.

Come on, say it with me...."Booooooooooooo" (close your eyes and imagine Rex walking onto the field next week) "Booooooooooooooooooooooo!" As one of the 1st people on this blog to demand that all good Bears fans should call for Griese and let Rex practice during the off-season, I declare this week "Boooo at Rex Week"
Lovie has to listen to the fans and never play Rex again this year. I love the win. I love the Division title. But I hate this kid Rex. For Christ sake, he had a 1.3 QB rating. Lovie--MAKE THE SWITCH!

The hardest thing to watch was he had players wide open multiple times and yet he threw it into coverage and ultimatly got intercepted.Just to name a few were Muhamad and Berrian back to back and then Clark later.

If Lovie can't understand by all of the boos that the fans want a change, I don't know what will make him realize it.

Lovey WAKE UP!! Why is it when a player on defense "loafs" , as he calls his negative grades, a player is quickly demoted. He wastes no time pulling a player who misses a tackle, but when you have a QB that plays abissmal for 5 games, he is untouchable. Bench Grossman now! please

What is everyone talking about. I thought Rex did very well. I do not know if we would have won without those 30 yards through the air.

Can the other Gramatica throw a football?

#17 The Case Against Grossman said . . .

I was a firm supporter of Rex Grossman this season, up until the Vikings game. Not anymore. I have officially jumped on the Griese bandwagon. He faced one of the worst secondaries in the league, Matt Leinart torched them for over 400 yards. And what did Rex do? 6/19, 34 yards passing, 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. This was his final test, and he failed it. Lovie needs to get Griese in there now so that he can get adjusted before the playoffs.

Throughout Grossman's demise from the MVP ballot, there have been several key arguments that have let him keep his job.

"Give him time, he's basically a rookie."
He is, basically, a rookie, however the Bears don't need a rookie in the playoffs. Rex has had 4 years of film study, 4 years of analyzing defenses and coverage schemes. He should know most of the coverages inside out. It's not like him being off the field had a huge effect on his mental preparation. He watched hours and hours of touchdown passes and interceptions, and he still can't separate a good decision from an awful one. This year was about getting him up to par physically, getting him healthy. The only real problem with Rex has been his terrible decision making. He's had 3 and a half seasons to learn, if he hasn't yet he won't improve enough in time for the playoffs.

"Griese is a career journeyman, and he doesn't have Rex's arm."
He's also a career 63 percent passer, and the Bears don't need Grossman's arm. They need someone who can keep the offense moving, someone who can take advantage of a good running game, a few decent receivers, and an unbelievable defense. When the game is tied with two minutes to go and no timeouts in the playoffs, do you really trust Rex to do anything other than show off his arm by throwing a 50 yard interception? The Bears have to win now, and Griese is their best chance.

"The Bears need to develop Grossman; Griese is not their future"
Grossman might still become a great NFL QB one day, but we can't risk losing games this season in order to help him develop. We can use him again next year, and the time he spends on the bench might help him later on because he will be able to see the game from a different angle. If he really is the great QB that Lovie thinks he is, he will only become better from the experience.

The NFC North will not stay this bad forever. The Vikings will play better next year, and the Packers....well.....The Vikings will play better next year. The Lions are the Lions, unless they choose to use the talent they have and maybe win a few games (as foreign as that may sound in Detroit.) Through the draft and through free agency, the other teams will begin to catch up.

The bottom line is that the Bears need to take advantage of the situation that they are in. They have a great team that might hit it's ceiling this year. They will probably lose Briggs next year, and the offensive line will get even older. They will still win, but I doubt they can repeat their success. Again, they need to win now, and the best way to do that is with Griese.

Agreed...THe key point in this debate is that we do not NEED grossman in order to win games. Grossman will not win games for us...he is a liability at best, a dangerous liability come playoff time..we should have picked up Drew Brees in the offseason and we would have been undefeated now but we got Griese and that's better than Grossman..The time is right for a change. We got the division wrapped up, we're 10-2, Let's get Griese out there so he can get ready for the playoffs. We all know it's coming so we might as well get it over with before it's too late.

How long will he be out and will the Bears hold him out longer that he should be to avoid other trouble?
