This is just until the offical wrap up, but seriously, we were crusing and Tampa Bay almost caught us sleeping. Our Secondary looked very vulnerable. Rex looked sexy. So did Des. Rashieds a beast. And Devin Hester will not be receiving Da Blog Game Ball this week.
#2 Megan said . . .Its weird that our team is an unknown with 2 games to go.
Will Tank play?
Is our D now average?
Hester has 6 YDs and 3 fumbles
Rex looks like early good Rex
Benson must get the ball in the 4th with a lead. That mutherfucker does not go down without a fight!
Turner need to call a run on 2nd and 5 in the fourth and not a fucking play action pass!
The road to Miami goes through Chicago!
Goddamn (falsetto voice)
I'm still drinking Weller
Derby Pie bitch!
I'm Rick James!

#3 Still said . . .Wow,
24-3 turned into a nightmare. Our D was really hurting, not just because of Tank's absence. I can't speak to how many yards allowed passing/rushing (I had to make Christmas candy while watching the game) but I can speak to points allowed by the D against a not so awsome offense. Yikes.
Special teams, well, Hester was ordinary. Tampa (as was stated frequently by the announcers) seems to have a better grasp on defense against the kick-off returns. He did get some pretty good runs in, 27/16 yards, normal for most special teams. Fumble, it was bound to happen. At least he got it out of the way, maybe it humbled him a bit. Robbie, Robbie, Robbie... shanker. Maynard had a couple of punts that you would think were his field postion Christmas Gifts to Tampa.
Offense. Hey, we were able to depend on our offense for a change. Every other part of the team was not really working so well and the offense hung in there and performed. Wow, TJ really punched it and got a few extra yards after being hit on several occations, including his touchdown! Rex, threw long balls and threw them well, he didn't scare me like he had during his slump.
It wasn't pretty, but we got it done. We have home-field advantage and we can sort out this off the field business hopefully in time.
E-Game ball... ?? I want to say Thomas Jones but I have to admit, I couldn't watch every play yesterday. I thought he looked the best he has all season. I'm sure you will all correct me if I am wrong.December 18, 2006
#4 mikebdot said . . .Even during Rex's braincramp days, the biggest concern for me was the injuries on defense. You just can't give up that much talent without suffering for it. Yesterday the rookie safety was exposed in a big way - twice. He has a couple more weeks to get better, and he can recover, but man we suck at prevent defense right now! In some ways we are better off with only a 10 pt lead at best.
Gameball has to go to Rex or Dez. Nobody else is even in the running. Although the Benson touchdown was sweet when he ran over the dude.
Robbie has hit his funk now. Rex better give him those Zen books I let him borrow. Robbie's got two weeks to reach enlightenment.

#5 Megan said . . .When 4 defensive starters are out (I'm counting the back-up for Brown here as that's old news) you are in trouble. Vasher will definitely be back for the play-offs and Tank Johnson ought to be.
I think our pass defense is quite overrated. I do like the swarm to the ball mentality, but if that means taking piss-poor angles to tackle someone...
The road to Miami won't go through Chicago if they play defense like that on the first game...
Hester's fumble didn't help matters any, but the way the offense responded gives me hope that someone is capable of responding to lead us to victory. The defense and special teams did it in October and November, now in December it's been the offense (and special teams last week too, but even had Hester not ran those two for TDs we would have had two extra drive opportunities, so don't discount that fact, and used up some more clock time...).
Griese probably could have played just as well, but Grossman showed good touch on a few passes and a laser beam on the TD pass down the seam to end the half.
I agree with pounding the ball in the fourth, especially on 2nd and 5. If you don't have confidence in your line to get 5 yards on two run plays, you've got problems. See Jax 4th and 1 pass play...
I say play the starters both games ahead to have a 6-0 conference record...for shits and giggles. If you're worried about injuries, I say, play a different sport. Also, look at how playing back-ups backfired on the Colts last year. You need games to keep you sharp, not practice. If you play two half games in three weeks to prepare for playoff game #1 you're at a disadvantage, especially against a hungry team that just makes the playoffs (which would be pretty much every other team in the NFC [that actually makes the playoffs] at this point).
Anyone mad that Lovie didn't use the 3 timeouts at the end of the game to try to drive the ball down the field after getting 9 yards on 1st down?

#6 Still said . . .I thought it was Jones who ran over the guy to get the touchdown... I was obviously mistaken...
December 18, 2006
Megan,
Jones ran around his guy to the pylon from what I remember.
Benson's TD was a beauty because he should have been tackled on the 4 and he literally ran over the guy and kept his feet to score.
You'll see the replay tonight. Dare I say Paytonesque?
