TANK CHARGED WITH GUN POSSESSION

Friday, December 15, 2006 | Jeff

Don't think for a second this doesn't leave a gaping hole at the defensive tackle spot for the Chicago Bears. This is a total fucking disgrace and I have no problem with never seeing #99 in a Bears uniform again. I know this sounds harsh but I'm tired of this shit all over the league and I'd love for the Bears to set an example.

I don't know the details or if he's going to ACTUALLY miss games but if Ron Rivera is truly ready to be a head coach, he's going to be tested in the coming weeks.

Perspective....

"The interesting thing about the DUI arrest of Cincinnati Bengal cornerback Deltha O’Neal last week isn’t that it marked the eighth arrest of a Bengal this year."

Okay, so we've got two, kinda. Slapping a guy with a laptop and gun possession. But really now. Gun possession? Please... I could have sworn there was an Amendment that made that okay. Whatever, 6 guns, no identification. He hasn't killed anyone.... that we know of.

This is stupid. I guess the Gurnee police got bored of watching the mall.

i'm not condoning what the bengals' players do and if you want the most heinous human on earth, it's st. louis' leonard little. this just disgusts me.

and not because of the guns...because we're losing another defensive tackle. i don't care about these guys off the field. he let the fucking team down.

your absolutely right Jeff, he let the team down. I am tired of these guys getting into all this mess. You would think with all the money athletes make and attention they get, they would stay out of this kind of stupid criminal activity..a part of me wants the bears to set an example like you said, but another part of me says this is another huge loss for the bears defense, and we need him on the field...

our defense is suffering, and our offense wont put enough points on the board to beat much of anyone come playoff time...

keep us informed on the developments..

First of all it was the dumbest fucking thing he could do.
Football players are human just like the rest of us. We all fuck up .Like the rest of us, he will be judged by a jury of his peers. Until then he plays. If O.J. can be in the HOF then Tank can play on Sunday.
So far it was a piss poor decision on his part but let's wait and see how this goes down. I think he just likes guns. I don't think he was planning a spree.

The 2nd Am. had in mind keeping arms for the purposes of "a well-regulated militia," not 6 guns in a suburban residence. I guess it would be too much to hope they're hunting rifles. Fucking thug.

I wish the name "Pissed Off" wasn't taken...

::sigh:: take a deep breath...Okay okay ... so sometimes the kids do something real dumb.

Lovie ought to take action on his own so show he is serious about this; maybe go ahead and give him a game suspension on his own before the NFL's "personal conduct policy" lays something harsher on his a$$.

I am sure Lovie and the Commish are on the phone as I write; as well as Lovie giving him a "F&^K DAMN U TANK" phone call.

Like I said, sometimes the kids do something real dumb- we're still a family.

How stupid can you be...you have an NFL career that is experiencing both personal success and team success that you have never experienced before and the ONLY thing you have working against you is a gun charge...so what do you do?....fill your house with fucking unregistered guns! I would love for the Bears to set an example and just cut him. I know that on paper that does not make a lot of sense, but I am soooo sick of the "gangster" mentality of our professional athletes...why exactly does he need all these fucking guns? It is time the NFL makes a stand....get rid of these fucking thugs....

off all the stupid-lame-brained things to do, now, with all these defensive people out because of injuries......

We should hermetically seal professional atheletes during the season.

I can't believe this...

Read this in the morning paper today.

The Bears definatley cannot afford this right now. Why do all these athletes feel that they need guns? At least get them registered.

Lovie, sit him for the rest of the regular season. Let him play in the playoffs. I don't even give a shit. Tank is a crucial part of the defense with Tommie out.

Yeah, I'm tired of all these NFL arrests, but he didn't kill anybody. The bro had some illegal pieces. Let him off the hook this time.

Sorry Pat I have this name for a reason, cuz more often than not, there is something with this team that pisses me off. This is just another example, I'd like to know what kind of guns he has in there. You dont have to register hunting shotguns or rifles do you? As I mentinoed before, I'm from North Dakota and here you can have guns galore and no one cares, hell people drive around here with guns in the back window of their pickup. Assult weapons (as they are called) are a different story, those you do have to register, like if someone bought an M-16. But even handguns, (9mm, etc) people have around here without having to register them. I suppose the laws are a bit different in the "big city"

Its hard to write a haiku about this.

Even though all of the facts aren't in this sucks.

But, did I read correctly, that the Gurnee PD used concussive explosives during their raid and that the house had been under surveillance since early November? Didn't they know there were two little kids in there?

In the immortal words of Samuel Webster, "what up with that?"

The weed doesn't bother me, looks like the guy had enough just to get, in towelly's words, "a little high." But guns on probation, not so smart.

It will be interesting to see what the further details are.

We probably won't know until next Spring.

Isn't it kinda funny that a 6'0 300 pound black guy named Tank feels the need for guns? I would think that Brad Maynard or Kyle Orton would be the one who needs to carry firearms.

I'm with Jeff. This guy is an absolute idiot. Children, pit bulls, loaded guns and copious amounts of weed don't mix well in confined spaces in the winter. I hope that the coaching staff makes an example out of him, but fear that they won't.

I'm all for seeing more of Ian Scott. He's a bitch against the run. I haven't seen Tank make a play this year like Ian did on Monday night to break up that reverse. There was a lot of talk about Scott last year being an important, although overlooked, player on defense but this year (a contract year, mind you) we haven't seen too much of him. We need #95 in more to stop the run.

Damn, jdawg! two and a quarter ounces of pot would get David Crosby, Keith Richards, Matthew Mcconaughey, Snoop and Rashan Salaam more than "a little high." I wanna party with you, man.

Maybe Tank is like Shaq- just helping out the cops, and he's so deep undercover even the popo don't know he's one of them.

Or maybe he's just a douche.

(please simulate Johnny Cochran voice here, peace unto his soul)

Hold it, hold it, HOLD IT!

Have all of you predjuding ladies and gentlemen forgotten the _cornerstone_ of our great democracy? My client is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty in a court of law.

You're saying, why does he need loaded assault rifles in his home without a permit? What could be the explanation? I don't know, YOU DON'T KNOW, nobody knows. Tank knows, and when the time comes, the jury will know too, and they'll make their decision.

UNTIL THEN, I humbly ask all of you to SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Is this a big deal? Is this a distraction to a Super Bowl season? Only if YOU FANS MAKE IT ONE, or you put pressure on the coaching staff to suspend my innocent client. The NFL can do nothing without a court conviction, and I guarantee you're not going to see that until after the season's over. Hell, we might be able to time a plea bargain so that he serves all his time in the offseason.

According to a poll on the Tribune, 67.5% of respondents favor either no suspension or only a single game suspension. The web polls are of course totally unreliable for real statistical purposes, but hey, iit's a data point:

I hope they take his kids away, what a fucking idiot, he just a stupid thug. But he grew up in the hood and things were hard right? You make tons of money and play football for a living you fucking tard, anyone would covet your lifestyle and you cant stay straight for a small portion or your life. Do what you want when you retire (or get kicked out of football cuz of off the field issues, or becuase you suck). Its sad to say he can be a big help to this team on a super bowl run but I could give a shit less if we just dump him.

Just to clear up a minor point of confusion. In Illinois, you don't register your weapons. You register yourself. You get a Firearms Owners Identification Card (a FOID card), basically certifying you're not a felon or obviously crazy, and then you can buy all the weapons you want. But you don't have to register the individual weapons.

Tank doesn't have a FOID card, as I understand it, because he's never sought an Illinois driver's license -- he's still a citizen, officially, of Texas or wherever he's originally from. Not having a FOID card is a misdemeanor, so even having six weapons without the card isn't all that serious. But violating his probation for the last time he was busted for no FOID card might be a problem.

And what's up with leaving loaded weapons around a house with kids in it? As everybody here seems to agree ... stupid, stupid, stupid.

im trying to figure out why everyone seems to feel ok with the cops rolling out the national freakin gaurd for ,any one who has any "legal experience" if you know what i mean, knows hes being charged with small time , and his buddy a little weed big deal . this thing is going to hurt his career and family . i think that im not so quick to give up my rights when did it become ok to destroy someones house . for what resulted in a 100 dollar bond ??and there talking about flash grenades or something whats up with that? I think somethings way off here the media is taking off with all this . problem is the way its sold on the media . i think the cops should apologize give him a large cash settlement bend over and kiss there own asses

As for the COPS in the Mr Tank Johnson issue if stupidity was a crime they would be up on class X felony charges. and a jury of there peers would have to be out of the Elgin rubber head facility. take that gurnee po po

Hey, long time, everybody.

This is definitely something to make you say, "Rat farts," but I'm not quite sure how to judge Tank. Joey is absolutely right that this is completely overblown. (Why? That's a perfect question for Paul Mooney.)

But everyone wants to know what adjective we should all use to label Tank. Thug? Criminal? Reckless? Lowlife?

I think those are all a little strong, given the available info. I'd be more inclined to alternate between negligent and unprofessional -- which has surely described me from time to time. Now, I don't make a million bucks a year, so that's a little different, but I do occasionally try to put my pants on both legs at a time and fall over on my face, so I guess I can relate.

The real pisser about this is that we went from being deep at DT to being dangerously thin. No es bueno.
