Great game! All week long, I've been reading the comments here but let me be the first to say it, the Seahawks brought their A game today and if they had one, it would have meant they earned it. Good job Seattle. Not quite good enough though!

Time to welcome the Saints fans.

Fantastic game... exciting in every aspect, and remarkably free of many mistakes. Gotta love Rashied Davis, that old Arena League guy, for saving our bacon and getting us into Robbie's range.

Bring on the Saints !

I am waiting for PackIsBack to come on here and issue an abject apology for his scurrilous remarks and nonsensical predictions. He must be inconveniently delayed... or something.

Ok, I'll give credit where credit is due. Kudos to the Bears. BUT, if this is the best you can do at home against a team riddled with injuries on both sides of the ball, New Orleans is going to embarrass you on national TV in your own stadium.

If anything, you need to send a big fat thank you note to our offensive coordinator and Mike Holmgren. It was their pathetic play calling in the last series that gave you the game, because let's be realistic... you have a somewhat above average team led by an average quarterback.

My prediction - Saints 34, Bears 17

Enjoy the victory, but you and I both know that the Seahawks would have won this game by 10 or more with their starting secondary in place.

VERY HAPPY, more a sigh of relief than anything though.

some thoughts:

1) this bears team has not had many drops this year and then two huge ones.....if moose and berrian catch those two the beloved win this game by 10. those won't happen again

2) why so much passing??? this game against this small D that rarely stopped them should have featured a combined 40 carries at least, instead only 33 and several of those were at the very end just setting up gould's field goal. next week needs to feature lots more running, they're really good at it and the O-Line had some pass blocking problems today

3) the bears didn't play all that well today and still beat the defending NFC champs. i like the chances next week. forecast is for 34 and sunny FYI but that can change quickly.

4) A PLAYOFF WIN! celebrate gentlemen.

Man you guy's will never get any respect. Why? Because you haven't earned it yet.

Like Terry Bradshaw said on the Fox pregame. You're here in the playoffs because you play the weakest schedule, in the weakest conference.

Mikey is right. If you couldn't stop a wounded team like Seattle with a defense just signed off the street corner, what the fuck are you gonna do against a team like N.O. You're gonna get steam rolled

I think 41-10 Saints. Sorry man, enjoy it while it lasts.

Didn't someone say they liked Chris Harris in favor of Johnson to stop the run? What an awful performance at his position today. Why did they not play Johnson after the first half? Harris did not make one good tackle. What I wouldn't give to see Mike Brown play another football game this year...

I think that the offense threw a lot to take advantage of the battered up secondary and the "street-signed" corners...
I don't think I heard about those guys enough.
I wish we could have seen the run more. I really appreciated that long ball throw to Moose.. that was killer.. I did want to see the clock burned more with the run. We were able to get 3-5 yards a carry, that can get us first downs.
But HECK! we WON! What a game! I had to use the portable defibrillator on myself several times; amazingly, Guinness worked even better.
I am so psyched for the Saints! It should be a good game.

Hey bears fans, and I am one:

Am I the only one who feels like I'm in a dysfucntional family with Dad not acknowledging he has a drinking problem?

Grossman is still suspect and today by no means erased any doubts what so ever. If anything, RG's performance reinforced the fact. ALL game the called plays were designed so he didn't have to make any deicsions, especially poor ones. I had to laugh at the hyprcosy! All during the even Aikman observed how the bears were playing around grossman's hadicap....then what happens? after the game the media rides the wagon: Rex this, Rex that...exercised his deamons_ BullS*&t!

A good QB would have picked the Seattle safety's apart....New Orleans is way better than the bears at the moment. I realize this is herasey fro a bears fan, but please, lets be honest here....Grossman is not a franchise QB, never has been, never will be.

Even if Da'Bears manage to with the SB, I still stand by my position

#23 Mikey said . . .

Let me make this clear (which I failed to do in my first post) had the Hawks pulled this one out, I didn't think they stood a chance against the Saints either.

The funny thing is, any analyst would say given all of our injuries, the Hawks had a very successful season. For the Bears it's completely different. If they don't win the NFC championship the season will be looked at as a failure.

The sad thing is for both teams is that the window of opportunity for a team to win the superbowl is very small... and there is so much parity in the NFL that's it's really tough to make it to the playoffs (let alone a league championship game) two years in a row (the Steelers are a great example of that).

Who ever said Mile brown would have made diffence is crazy. That pussy can't make it through a whole season so you'll never know. Give up and that chump.

As far as Harris goes. He started tailing off with the rest of the defense when he went down. But I don't think he would've had that much of an impact.

And how bout my Pats man. They didn't even play that well and won.

LT that little bitch ran off the field when the game was over because he didn't like it when the Pats celabrated after the missed kick. Little loser bitch.

The stars need to align...
Mikey, you are right the window is small. Barring injuries, off-the-field mis-steps/antics, teams may look golden and not win or have golden players that screw up. I think the Colts of last season can also speak to that.
I don't know what analysts you are referring to, but we are in the play-offs, up for the NFC championship. I think that we have had a successful season. We have had injury after injury, we have had good games and questionable performances out of our good players. That is what any sport is all about. Tiger Woods looses, and Wayne Gretzky makes bad decisions off the ice. Nobody is perfect.
What is sweet is seeing your team give it their all, connect with the fans, feel the pulse of the stadium and having the fans give just a little more volume. If today's game was in Seattle, Bears fans may not be high-fiving each other right now.
Hearing about the offense and defense support and encourage each other... Did you see the sidelines, after Rex threw to Moose in the first half? Both sides of the ball were congratulating Rex/Moose.
That is what makes a team, and a successful one. I can feel the passion in their hearts probably more so this season then any season for a long time. Fans bitch, play arm-chair quarterback and question play calling. That is what fans do.
Things just have to fall into place at just the right moment and for just the right person. Attitude can also make or break you.

Also, note to those dissing Grossman. INT may have been a TD pass had Moose actually caught the damn ball (probably would have been stopped). Also, a sure TD was dropped by Berrian as well. True the ball wasn't perfectly thrown, however it should have been caught (he had plenty of time to react to the ball, just didn't turn correctly). If those two passes went for TDs (and not a pick), his rating would have been to 114 (which shows you how worthless that statistic really is). Even if Moose would have just caught the ball and was stopped at the 1 yard line it would be a 105. Pretty crazy huh? If you don't believe me, feel free to email me and I can send you the excel file.

I do agree we passed a few too many times. Especially on a couple 2nd and 3rd downs (consecutively) after getting 2 or 3 on the ground on 1st down.

Why didn't we call a timeout with 0:19 left in the game with Hester our return man? Because he could have fumbled it (which would be a legit argument watching most of the times he touched the ball today)? Regardless, I thought that would have been a no brainer...especially with 2 timeouts left, we could have returned it to the 40 or so (or for a TD) with 7 or 8 seconds left and thrown a 20 yard out route to stop the clock...yes, risky, but exciting as well. It was a risky proposition for the Seahawks getting the ball in OT too!

January 15, 2007

#28 scott said . . .

Phew. What a game. I, for one, am not paying attention to QB ratings at this time of year. My guess is that Manning and Brady feel the same. Bad numbers but a W for each. Rex played a good game. Made the key throws when he had to and we won. Simple as that. I'll take a ditto performance next week as long as we win. As for the know-nothing blowhards who root against the Bears and lurk on this site, you predicted a Bears loss this week so I expect nothing less for next. Bring it on.

Just as I figured. The bears opened at -3 and you needed to get in early if you wanted to get maximum points. So many takers that the bears are down to -1. Nobody in their right mind will bet the bears after that outing. The girl scouts could move through that defense. rex is lucky that pass wasn't picked off on that first drive. 50% chance it gets picked. It would have made the difference.

Sayers, I beg to differ. Both teams played very well. Seattle had 4 penalties for a whopping 16 yards and only turned it over once. It's obvious that the Seahawks are a different team with Shaun Alexander (as are we with Mike Brown and Tommie Harris). Nice game, Seattle. I enjoyed the banter.

Rex was very good today, very clutch. Shied and Berrian were f'ing large. I'm worried about Bradley, though -- any news?

If Briggs plays next week like he did today, I'll be a lot less worried about Deuce and Bush.

Lastly, to PiB, I know many, many Packer fans, and thank goodness none is a cockswab like you. As for Dave, well...I don't know any other Patriot fans.

Reading these posts, reading commentary from the major web sites, it seems like I was watching a different game from everyone else. While both teams were far from perfect, I was impressed by Seattle's toughness and with the Bears' defensive execution down the stretch. It was an exciting game in which the whole city can rejoice. Can you ask for a more gratifying finish?

The problem is, the whole city has become bogged down by expectations, taking anything less than perfection as a sign of inevitable doom. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady each threw 3 interceptions in their wins this weekened, but you certainly don't see analysts calling for their heads. But when Rex Grossman ALMOST throws an interception on the first drive of the game, it means that we've got no chance against New Orleans.

Grossman put his team in a position to win the game, just like Brees, Manning, and Brady did with their teams. And for all the potential heart attacks he causes, Chicago has not had a quarterback more capable of busting out a big game since... hell, I don't know, McMahon, I guess. And I don't think we've ever had a quarterback who could make those throws to Berrian and Davis.

So relax for a second and realize that we're playing AT HOME next Sunday against a very flawed team that lost 13 games last season. If someone told you at week thirteen that the Bears would get to play the Saints at home for a chance to go to the Super Bowl, wouldn't you have done a backflip on the spot? Well, at least do a cartwheel, or maybe a summersault, because your Bears are one game away from Miami.

Good game for the Bears. I think we're being a little hard on Rex. Of course he looked shaky...for the love of Christ, we're used to watching every pass with baited breath, expecting the worst. He went 21/38...282 yards...1 TD 1 INT...hit 9 different receivers, two of which for 75+ yards...and led the team through a tough as hell game. If any other quarterback not named "Grossman" did this, they'd be getting some respect on Sportscenter.

I'm worried that only one other person hit on the Hester muffs. My buddy said (half) jokingly during the game that Seattle should just punt on first down, put all wide receivers on punt coverage, and wait to recover a fumble. Yeah, he's explosive, yeah, he can score...but we can't afford giveaways in key playoff situations. Throw that guy some stickum or something.

I'm still in disbelief that Fox cut to commercial on that fourth and one measurement.

January 15, 2007

#47 Pissed off said . . .

Okay, one more, damn, I had to post for each time I read a stupid comment, mainly Daves comments.

First of all I'm not being a homer but the Hawks played WAYYY over their head yesterday, if they would have played that good last week they would have beat the Cowboys by 25. We overcame more turnovers (which they got points off of) and their average starting field position must have been close to the 40.

To the Rex haters, I think Moose should have brough in the pass that went for a INT. It was a bit behind him but very catchable. The Berrian pass was a sure TD, no question, even dave could have reeled that one in....well probably not cuz he's crosseyed but whatever.

And dont let me forget we had a Hester TD on the punt return and if the guy wouldnt have touched the Seattle player for a penaltly (which he didnt need to do, Hester was already by him) we could have won by 2 scores.

We will be in for good game Sunday, Saints will be fired up but I firmly believe that we can win if we play as hard as we did against Seattle, the only thing killing us right now is the opposing teams field position.

While Reggie Bush scares me a little bit, he fumbled the ball once and dropped a toss as well. Even though he will definitely be less fast and loose with the ball, it's in his nature, and thus I put the chances he fumbles at least once at around 50% next week (especially with the Bears tendency to swarm tackle, especially after making an initial hit to stop a small offender). I'm more concerned about Deuce than Bush running the ball, but screens could hurt us if Bush finds some open space and actually handles the ball like a professional when being caught from behind...

I like our offense to have a few big plays deep, but the story will be the running game. I think we can move the ball on them, it's just going to be a question of how our defense tackles and covers the sure-handed Colston. The key will be pressure on Brees in the passing game and tackling/standing up Bush very quickly after he receives the ball.

Sorry I'm jumping ahead to next week already, but I read Gene W.'s article on espn.com and it is just disgusting.

Does anyone else agree with me about Harris playing poorly? I saw at least 4 plays where he didn't make the tackle when he should have. One play in particular where Alexander was coming through the line and he hardly even got his arm on him. I'm thinking his eyes were closed. He was also aiming for his shoulder. Oh, he took a piss poor angle on another play that allowed a big play...I can't remember which one though...

Being a Bears fan, watching the game with a very negative and worrisome Bears' fan (you know who you are DK) I realized something. Worrying about our play is one thing, but constant criticism about how we play is useless. Have faith and remember what we have now is a hell of alot better than Orton, McNown, Mirer, Slash, and the whole host of other useless former dirtbag QBs. This isn't college football. There are no polls. We don't need to blow teams apart. All we have to do is win, and that's what we have done this year. So for everyone who quotes the betting lines, has nothing positive to say, then I guess I am saying don't say anything. The negativity is terrible. When did we as Bears' fans become so expecting of perfection? Enjoy the ride and don't have a heart attack over hypotheticals. We are winning and thats what we gotta love. Be happy for where we are...and the Bears will pull through. Peace! and BEAR DOWN!!!
P.S.--alot less space would be wasted on here if there wasn't mindless trash talk with teams not involved in the playoffs. Don't engage it, its stupid and wastes time having to read real comments from real fans. Lets break down the game and the next opponent!

Yeah, I read Gene's article, and I felt the sudden urge to launch my laptop across the room. Why is it that the pundits can't say, for just one day after a big game, "Congrats. You pulled it out." It's always, "...well, if the Seahawks had this...or if so and so wasn't injured..." Our wins always come with a qualifier of some sort, usually by the sports columnist who picked the other team.

It will be the same way if we make it to the Bowl. It will be...well, the Saints didn't do this, the Saints couldn't do that.

It's never, "the Bears did this well." And while it may be true for some things, doesn't appearing in the NFC championship count for something? In this league of parity, I know there were a few other decent teams in the NFC. You can't just discount the entire conference.

Also, on a side note, what is with all these other fans showing up just to talk trash? It has never occurred to me to go to the Saints board and say horribly demeaning things, but I suppose that's just my Midwestern ethic talking.

So Go back to the first sentence and repeat until you Get it. The Bears WON and are going to host the NFC Championship. Period.
