The Bears don't win games like they won yesterday. Not in my lifetime. But there was a quarterback making big time throws. There was a little guy from Penn State kicking his way into history. There were the Chicago Bears. Your Chicago Bears. Winning a game they never win.
If they could only win one more . . .
#2 jdawg said . . .It's going to be a hell of a game, that's for sure. But the thing that reassures me is that Chicago is a hard-nosed town, with a fucking work ethic that trumps everyone else's. We've met obstacles and climbed over the steepest. I can think of no other city I'd rather live in (and that's after visiting quite a few). Our boys will dig deep this week, and figure out what it means to be a Bear.
Now, bring on the mindless flaming of each other.

I want to commend again the class of the Hawks fans who showed up after the game. I would have been spitting bullets if I was in their shoes.

To jdawg, there was only one Seattle fan who came back on here after their team lost, (flowcontrol) or as I like to call him, "abnormal discharge". He made a quick meaningless post and left for good, hes barely better than all the other douches that were here last week.
I agree with craig that if the Bears D was stellar like they were early in the year, I wouldnt be as worried either. But their not as good. The only comforting thing I can say, as I said in a prior post is that Seattle played WAY WAY over their head in that game, Holmgren must have put tobasco in their weaties or something but they played a hell of a game. I think that if the Bears play relatively as good as they did Sunday they will beat NO. We just need to not give them such good field position ALL DAMN GAME.

Our pass defense was very good this weekend. The rush defense was adequate at times and superb on 3rd and 0-2 yards. I hope the Bears put a spy, either Urlacher or Briggs on Reggie Bush when he's in there. All they'll need is one big hit and bye bye ball. He carries that ball with more wreckless abandon than Hester...
Oh, we won't miss the sure pick-6 we had early on in the game next time...Tillman I think...speaking of which, he had a great game. So did Vasher. Holy crap. I think this weekend will surprise the pundits. But mea culpa they will not perform. Especially Gene Wogonnamailitinagainnextweek...

I will not comment on that as I will take it one game at a time....we still need to win this week and figure out how to do so before we can start putting lines on the super bowl.....that being said I like the Bears and Pats this weekend to win.
As far as this game, it will be a good one, I am not going to speculate, hopefully too much anyway, on what the Bears need to do to win. I will leave that up to the coaches cuz to be honest I havent watched too much tape of the Saints this year. Yep, this game I am going to just sit back and wait for and see what progresses, unlike last week when I was in a frenzy freaking out cuz the bears had to beat Seattle for God's sake.

I made good on my word to congradualte the winner and did, now i am curious how much you are gonna worry about you QB from today through sunday?
My meaningless shit comes from the attempt at being a decent sport and not coming right out and saying your Fucking Stupid with all your so called meaningful bullshit about what you think you know and post here in this blog! Also i came to this blog to see how the fans are doing and all i saw was abunch of fans worried about their QB and whatever else you put on the table. I think to bash your team "including rex" is just bull shit! simply because all teams play different in the playoffs even if they truely are bad, look at philly and yes they eventually lost but those fans were ready for next season when McNabb got taken out for the season, by the time they got to new orleans they fully supported their team.
You Bears fans need to try that sometime instead of calling your bullshit reality, because the reality of it all is that on any given sunday any team may win!
I am not speaking to all True Bears fans i see some of you just get in there and claim it all while others wined about Rex! and still doubt their team.
The bears best beware New Orleans may turn Soldier Field into a High Flying Circuise on sunday.
So pussed off pucker your pussy cause new orleans is gonna screw it good!!!!

Last time I checked two teams take the field and the team that's leading at the end of the game wins. I think the D will play a little looser, smarter and better Sunday. Whether that's good enough to beat the Saints remains to be seen. Also, besides Brees what's the playoff experience over there?
Anyway, here's to a great game, and what is already a great season, win or lose.

If New Orleans wants to represent the NFC, they're not going to get it the easy way. Dress warm, Saints.

I am not worried about Rex as much anymore as I was before this past game, he outplayed Hasselbeck and I think he'll be fine this week. So your speculation that Bears fans are worried about Rex is stupid, some may still be worried but far less than they were before Sunday so you can eat your take on that.
And enough with your bullshit, we'll be the type of fans we want to be, there's no right or wrong way to be a fan so put your stupid theory to bed along with your season, Hawks suck, you didnt deserve to be in that game anyway. GO Bears!

Listen, no team dominates from beginning to end, if they did san Diego would still be in it, but they are not. The best teams do. And when one side struggles, the best teams find ways to compensate for it. This is the most maligned 13-3 ever! Faith my friends. This is our best team since '85. They've played their schedule and won their games. Could they be better? sure, but who couldn't, the differece is we are still playing, they're not. That's the only thing that matters, we win, period

#40 Pyrobob said . . .Guys (and gal), I'm getting increasingly comfortable about a similar type win against the Saints. The monkey's completely off the back, all phases played well for chunks of the game (and didn't for others) and Rex proved why he's there. What a monster game from him, watching it again (and again and again) I am so impressed with what he achieved in that game. If anything I harbor an oh-so-slight fear that a sense of greater relaxation for him could cause him to be a little looser with his decisions - he obviously can't do that. But he will undoubtedly be less tight for this game - it should make him even better. I slammed the o-line immediately after the game (of which I had missed the first 1:15 due to kid coaching responsibilities) and saw they performed great at the beginning of the game, it was after the second half when Hawks blitzes (and even non-blitzes) were being effective. MUST PROTECT REX! On further review, D played good but must play better, I know the line can do better than they did - whatever happened to Ogunleye and Alex Brown? I saw Ogunleye make a play and I was like, damn, I didn't even remember he was on the team, he's been so quiet lately. I see he has a strained something. But our vaunted line depth - is it all gone just because of Tommie being gone? Great corner play, Hunter made a great play and "Must Sign Him Now" Briggs was Da Man. Chris Harris, still not good. Todd Johnson, where are ya? Great coaching calls, you got balls Lovie, on the 4th and short. You belong here. The running game is kicking ass, still need MORE BENSON. I kind of like the intrapossession switching, but I don't like not seeing Benson for more than a quarter. I think yards were left on the field because of him not playing. Berrian and Moose, no more drops please! Could have been a much easier game if they each caught their catchable misses - 14 point swing there. Rashied, I love you man. You are THE BEST, Mr. Arena League. Devin Hester, you impacted the game - after getting over expectations of returning every kick to the house, I am now watching how you do something with every opportunity (as long as it doesn't bounce off your helmet) - you single-handedly change field position throughout the game. And how important was the end of that game to our Pro Bowler, Solid Gould? Now he has a playoff game winner, and no chip shot either, on his short but growing resume.
Re: Saints - if we can stop Deuce, we will win. And I think we can, or at least keep him to a performance like Alexander - some big runs, some damage, but stopped when we need him to. Reggie Bush is good for a few big plays - if we play well, it won't come down to that. And he will not be ignored by Rivera. The bigger mismatch here is Bears offense v. Saints defense, and it is strong in Bears favor. Sorry for ramble, snow day for everybody in south Texas today, time to watch 212 all day (that's NFL network for you cablers). GO BEARS!
January 16, 2007
#41 Megan said . . .PiB - Now who is being delusional? No need to answer, it's obvious.
As long as we're on the subject...
I continue to hold to the belief that Lovie is playing a season long game of psychological warfare. He has set expectations of the opposing teams all season long. The Bears came out strong early in the season and secured their position at the top of the division and then the playoffs and the conference. Seeming to barely eek by or lose in many unimportant games and winning when and where they needed to; including this recent playoff game.
For example: Lovie seems to have a penchant for calling TO's at the worst times. What would another coach or coordinator expect under similar circumstances as they look across the field and try to read "poker face" Lovie?

#42 mikebdot said . . .Yeah, We have the ability, we can beat this team. I am worried about us focusing on us putting pressure on Brees. He is not unshakable but he is pretty solid. If we can cover the WRs instead of having one of our corners rush, thier WR will be covered well enough, and leave things open for take overs? Whadday think? Have Lance and Brian do what they do, intimidate and cover the rush? I am no analyst but I did notice us using the pressure more and Hasselbeck being able to pass more?
I have to admit, I did have to walk away from the ol' big screen during the second half, I was a little too worked up. We had to put ear muffs on the 12 yo cuz I was getting a little verbal. And that's not like me. I think I have the knowledge that this team can do it. But the Bears have to know that too. Any thoughts? Am I way off base??

#43 Pissed off said . . .I'm really getting tired of reading about Grossman's interception on Sunday. He put the ball where he HAD to put it. If it was put on Moose's other shoulder the ball would have been swatted down at the line of scrimmage...it was a perfect throw. Moose HAS to make that catch, it's not like it was a rocket...did anyone hear if he has taken responsibility for that play?
N.O. has 11 INTs this year (2006 regular season). They are -4 give/take. We were +8. I think this bodes well...We NEED two or three takeaways, especially to kill a drive near/in the red zone.
Or we can just make them go 3 and out 12 times too...
I'm officially predicting 35-10 Bears, but am always hoping for a shut out.

Flybait..stop being so negative, did you even watch the game on Sunday. If you think NO can come here and tear apart the Bears your wrong, if anything it will be a close game. Dont always go off of what you want to think, No has been shut down this year too, remember the Redskins game, its not a guarantee that their going to come here and tear it up, they are a warm weather dome team and I think they will be a bit flustered in this environment. All year they've been the darlings of the NFL and their gonna run into a buzzsaw on Sunday.
Gotta agree with Wayne about flybait!

Giants
and in playoffs, Eagles by 3 at home. Here's who they lost to:
Panthers
Ravens
Steelers
Bengals
Redskins
Panthers againI submit to you... no quality wins against quality teams, except the playoff win against an improved Eagles team. And don't count the Cowboys, they were overrated this year with suspect defense and gutless (TO) offense. The Saints are a well-coached and creatively coached team who have done a great job beating teams that are worse then them. They have not succeeded in beating teams with more talent. The Bears have more talent up and down the roster. Despite the fact that their dome record was worse than their outdoor record, they ARE a dome team. Their outdoor successes have not included particularly nasty weather. They WILL get a nasty surprise on Sunday - a Bears team who has more talent than them who will improve on their play of last week. Berrian and Moose will make those catches next week. Remember, the media hype on the Saints is all about Katrina, and what a great story they are. Katrina, and all the national Saints love in the world, will not help the Saints on Sunday. This game will not be as close as the Hawks, then it's go time - Super Bowl baby!

D. ColstonThen it asked:
Who should the Saints worry about stopping:
A. Benson
B. Jones
C. Moose
D. Grossman
E. Hester
F. BerrianI just had to giggle. I mean, it's really amazing how good our team is, all around. If Grossman doesn't make a multitude of mistakes, we pretty much can't lose...
Clark, McKie could have been added to the list as well as they are invaluable...
The offense has all kinds of talent. We will be harnessing it! They WON the game. Did y'all read that Grossman's performance was the 2nd most playoff yards by any Bears QB in a playoff game? You're damn right they don't usually win games LIKE THAT in the playoffs.
Also, I would like to publicly apologize for questioning Tillman's performance a few weeks ago. He played a hell of a game. I can't wait for it to continue! Bring on Nawlins!

(to paraphrase Glengarry Glen Ross) Des Clark (who we should figure out how to get more catches) PUT HIM ON THE BOARD! McKie PUT HIM ON THE BOARD! Robbie Gould PUT HIM ON THE BOARD!
I was amused by an AP article that opined that road teams will win both championship games - but the whole article was about Patriots beating Colts (which I actually don't think will happen - Colts defense stepping up at the right time), with only the last paragraph about the Saints beating the Bears - you gotta read this:
"In the NFC, it looks good for the Saints, everyone's favorite this season because of the travails the city (and the team) went through last year after Hurricane Katrina. Give the edge to the Bears for being on their home field but the edge to the Saints for consistency and talent."
Nice analysis, huh? Saints have more talent? Again I will say, the Katrina deal, poignant though the story may be, will not help the Saints beat the Bears on Sunday.

#52 Megan said . . .PO'd, I did qualify my comments at the beginning - pot calling kettle black - but I still say Bears lost only 3 games, two to inferior teams, one a completely meaningless game (oh no did I just unintentionally resurrect the ghost of PIB past?) and we had good wins in there. Seahawks, Giants when they were good, Jets, Rams when they were better. Saints got a first round bye with a 10-6 record, and they lost to the stronger teams. Bears didn't, and I'll even use the Patriots game, there was barely a field goal's worth of difference between the two on Patriot's home field. And a once-in-a-lifetime juke of #54.
PO'd, what's your take on upcoming game?
January 16, 2007
#53 Megan said . . .I can see a "motivation/game-face" mentality for the Saints if they think they have to win for the city.
