Sunday...Sunday...Sunday

Wednesday, January 17, 2007 | Jeff

I'm losing it and I knew I would. I woke up at 5:51 AM this morning and actually sat up immediately and thought, "God, what if they win this one more game?" I've spent the whole day at my desk checking this website to see what all of you have to say about things. I listened to the ESPN 1000 stream of Salisbury & Rosenbloom from 10 to 1. I've read every single word about the Chicago Bears available on the internet. John Clayton, Dunyo Demasio and this guy at Fox Sports all like the Bears.

It's only Wednesday. It is only fucking Wednesday. I'm a live-for-today kinda guy and everything but I have absolutely no use for the rest of this week. None. I can't think about anything else. How many times can I watch Rex to Rash and hear Joe Buck's perfectly delivered, "The biggest throw in Rex Grossman's career."

I don't need the game Sunday like I needed the Seahawks game. I want the game Sunday more than I want a cold beer on a hot summer day. I want the game Sunday - quite honestly - as much as I've ever wanted anything.

Someone tell me what to do...

Jean Wokjcjiekowsjklsio is the biggest douche ever. He drives me nuts. His article is so ridiculous.

This guy turns a good (great, considering the circumstances) performance by Grossman into lucky. To paraphrase, "He threw a pick (no mention of the dropped pass) and was lucky to not have another one on a tipped ball." Blames the secondary of the Seahawks but doesnt mention that its the same secondary that Tony Homo couldn't dominate.

He turns some stupid comment by Manning Jr. into a whole team issue. Little does he recognize that this team is arguable the most cohesive unit in the league. Urlacher wanting a lower salary to keep Briggs. Defense sticking by Grossman through extremely tough times. We have no ME first players, other than Ced, who has dramatically changed his ways as of late. It really is quite amazing to see how classy our team is compared to the rest of the league, and because one player buys a car, this guy jumps all over the team.

Does anyone else agree that this guy's points rival Pack is Back's?

Very nice super bowl rumble, Rex sounds a bit faggy though, this is no time to make fun of our future. On that note I seriously, SERIOUSLY hope the Bears make some sort of remake of the super bowl shuffle if they win Sunday. Everyone will say "oh quit screwin around, time to get serious and win the SB" I say have fun with it, if you cant enjoy the ride then your too uptight. I want a super bowl shuffle 2006 Bears style!! SERIOUSLY I DO!

As far as Jeff's dilemma, I say if you dont have to work, tie on a 4 day binge, dont stop drinking or sleeping until Sunday. Remember the SNL skit for "Hibernol" take a four day dose of that....wake up Sunday morning and prepare for the game.

Saints come marching in and open a can of whoopass.

Will you, Bear Fans, consider the season a success after you lose on Sunday?

You did, after all, get that monkey off your back last week (baaaaarrrrreeeely).

Loose as a goose. Ya'll take now, ya hear?

Who Dat?: You do realize that the Eagles could have taken the lead on one play but opted for the field goal (which was fucking stupid). Then, they punt the ball after a 5 yard penalty on 4th and 10...with under two minutes left and two timeouts (1st down run timeout, 2nd down run timeout, 3rd down gain to get another 1st = ball game anyway, what the hell was Andy Reid thinking????)

N.O. barely won too...against a Philly defense that was ranked 15th in the league (YPG and points)...Bears D 5th and 3rd respectively. Watch the game and enjoy the show. It's going to be pretty.

I just hope the D plays smart. If the Saints try to get too cute on offense they could be in for a long day. I think Payton is too smart for that though, and we're going to start out seeing a healthy dose of Duece. Man I hope Todd Johnson is starting over Harris.

January 17, 2007

#15 BRIANsong said . . .

I think we'll see a lot of Deuce out of a spread offense. This defense needs big time performances out of Tank, Ian and Fonsy. If they can clog the middle and force things outside, the Bears will be fine.

I was listening to sports radio this morning and they were saying that both Douche...I mean Deuce and Bush's YPCarry on grass is about half of what it is indoors (or on turf, I cant remember). That being said, the Saints still find ways to win on the road but its an interesting nugget, you may want to look into it, I did and its true.

Saints will be in for a long day, doesnt it make you giddy that you know that the Bears could turn it on and win by 30 like they did against SF, Buffalo, etc. It aint happening Sunday but the teams that the Bears put 40 on (or mid to high 30s) early in the year have just as good of defense as the Saints do.

January 17, 2007

#19 jdawg said . . .

It just feels like the last five games (including the Seattle win) had some sort of reality distortion field going on (like a Steve Jobs keynote, but in reverse). I'm hoping we haven't seen our real defense yet, what with injuries, meaningless games and playing tight (again the Seattle game). I don't know that we can press a button and create instant pass rush. I wonder how the Saint's O-line compares to the Seahawks? The sacks we got last Sunday were coverage sacks and blown play sacks, not pressure sacks. I don't know that there are any stunts Rivera can pull out of his hat that Payton hasn't seen on tape. It all comes down to the on-the-field performance.

Jonathan: The season has already been a success (beyond wildest dreams). Anything more is just icing on the cake. I do like my icing, too.

MikeB: Do you realize that the Seahawks could have won if they had simply executed on one more play? Josh Brown would have kicked a 50+ yarder for the 5th time this season at the end of reg if they could've mustered one more play. Think about it. You know your heart was in your throat and should feel lucky to be here. Just like we do.

January 18, 2007

#21 jonathan said . . .

Who Dat -- my point exactly. Whatever happens from here on out, the Saints are already a phenomenal success. For the Bears, anything less than a Super Bowl ring is unacceptable. This is an important part of the reason the Bears will win on Sunday.

January 18, 2007

#22 jdawg said . . .

piffle

I don't think anything less than a super bowl is unacceptable. I want them to win this game and the next, but the truth is we're playing with a defense minus two pro-bowlers and a QB playing his first full season who still hasn't seen everything a defense can throw at him. Still, I've got my throat lozenges ready, win or lose.

I feel the way most of you do...anxious, excited, nervous...but I have one worry that keeps running through my mind.....the X factor in this game is the ref's. That's right, it's not the Bears D vs the Saints O or Rex vs Drew..it's the ref's. I honestly feel that these teams are very evenly matched and a bad call or two could hand the game to the saints. Let's not forget....the saints are the story, the saints are America's sweetheart....one bad pass interference or one bad roughing the passer and we could be totally fucked. If we lose, I will be crushed...no question. But if we lose becuase of a bad call (see: huge hollins, Don Majickowski) I may just end up in the papers going postal on NFL headquarters. Please let them play and do not dictate the outcome by calling penalties.

This week especially sucks since the guy I usually pass the time discussing the last game and the next game with is out of the office. I am spending more time at my desk but I am not any more productive since I am scanning the net for info and posting here again.

Here's an idea. You could travel to Lake Forest and stand by the gate greeting and cheering on the Bears as they come to work. Bring spoiled fruit to toss at the reporters you hate as they come and go! You might get a free trip to the pokey and maybe see Tank?

Or, maybe just stay at home with booze and porn flicks???

As for the Bears, maybe the coaches should have Hester on the practice O this week doing his best Reggie Bush imitation getting the D ready for his shifty speed?

¡Triunfo de los osos! ¡Triunfo de los osos! ¡Los osos de Chicago han ganado el Superbowl!

Watching Inside the NFL on HBO. All four (Marino, Collinsworth, Costas, and Carter) like the Saints. Costas actually picked the Bears, but just as a formality because he needs to catch up in their picks standings. They all seem to believe that Chicago doesn't have much of a chance to contain the Saints offense. And they think Rex will make costly mistakes...

The Bears DLine will have its hands full. The NO Saints have a better OLine than the Seahawks and the Hawks pushed our boys around on a bunch of plays. Front four pass pressure aint gonna happen. Blitzing will be the order of the day.

We have the best linebackers in the league. Urlacher had somewhat of a rough day against Seattle. Urlacher and Briggs will have to contain on the edges and up the middle in order to stuff the run. If Urlacher can't get off blocks, it could be a tough day. IMO, the day will be won or lost on their play.

Our secondary does not concern me in pass coverage. It is interesting that we have not heard Vasher's name much over the last 3 games. Why? Because he has been playing lights out. The less attention for a corner, the better. We have better corners than most people realize. I am not worried about Vasher or Tillman.

Finally, for Jeff, try kickboxing. It is the sport of the future.

2nd time long time........Noah may remember my previous post......... But fret not my fellow addicts......Papa Beargundy is here to make it allright..................
Let me break down exactly why we will win on Sunday....I'll start by stating that I generally wouldn't have Sundays off, being that I am the low man on the totem pole at the Salem, Oregon Wastewater Treatment Plant (normal work hours being swing shift 2-1230 Thursday thru Sunday night......and I ain't getting up at 10 a.m. pacific for regular season rubbish....I'll soon explain.....)
But I'll be at Cactus Jack's Tex Mex Cafe, the home of the Portland Bears Backers club (I know the rest of you are cracking up at the "bear backing" but out here on the western rim you need to be much more specific to be homosexual.....trust me....Portland ain't Toledo...)
A simple enough quandary on the surface....but lets dig deeper...... I hail from Cicero, Indiana....... The son of a union man from milwaukee and his hippie wife from Indianapolis. I fell in love with the NFL in 1985, and there was nothing my cheesehead daddy could do but cry in his Old Milwaukee over the fact that his firstborn son had asked for a white headband and raybans for christmas that year................I paid a penance for my insolence though...... We won't get into the details but my personal record was 0-5 until november 5 2000, when my junior year roommate, el padre and myself witnessed the bears defeat the Colts 27-24 on an unseasonably mild day in the windy city, and it took a Roosevelt Colvin forced fumble on Mr. Gatorade Rain commercial simulated calf-birth placentad-Fierce forehead Direct TV shilling shithead himself to keep the Bears from blowing a 27-0 lead that day.....But it opened the floodgates......
I personally saw the Bears win five games in '01... I remember the Arizona game, when we yawned our way to 3-1 (JESUS CHRIST WE HADN"T BEEN 3-1 in TEN FUCKING YEARS) and I saw old dudes with Chicago Cardinals shirts on emptying their colostomy bags....... I was at the road shut-out in Cincinnati, when we moved into first place that late in a season since 1992, I saw the miracle against Cleveland, Paul Edinger's 52 yard field goal against Tampa at the halftime gun in a December drizzle, and personally got my buddies kid brother (i think he was 14) wasted at the last waltz in the Pontiac Silverdome.......

I hate to pull an "Uncle Rico" here.....but back in '01 I was on top.... I'd been on the dean's list six of eight semesters at Indiana University, had poor man's Rob Lowe good looks (with a decidedly hippie-esque slant) , could pull any wool that toured with Phish and went unshaven below the armpits,.... I was due to graduate that may with several job offers on the table..in short....the world was my oyster................but come playoff time......did I lay up for second place like Don Johnson???? Hell fuckin' no, I blasted one that Roy McAvoy and Cheech would have been proud of........

We hosted the Bears playoff party against Philadelphia at the local pub that year........To make a long story short (too late)
as my blacked-out on irish car bombs ass pounded the bigscreen at the moment of defeat (ala Charlton Heston in planet of the apes when he sees lady liberty and realizes he's home) Johnny Law came in and hauled me off......
Multiple convictions later ......I took a job with the City of Indianapolis, sewer services division.

You'd think that was enough, but that march IU made an improbable run to the final four.....As a senior with a 3.6 gpa, I was granted tickets to both "sessions" as they are called.......
My grandmother (a previous IU alum) lay dying of breast cancer....but I kissed her forehead and drove down to Georgia............And the hoosiers lost on Monday, April 1st........April Fool's Day......And Patricia Fenton Montgomery....Miss Louisville 1946 left this earth....................

So I got the hell out of the midwest in August 2005 on a Forrest Gump (Iaa just felt like running-kuh) style sabbatical.................
Today was my last day off before the vacation day I took for Sunday........ so I can't post again.....unless i copy this and rehash it on another comments board......I've got every piece of the Elwood Blues costume for Cactus Jack's.....down to the Sharpie for the E-L-W-O-O-D across the knuckles.unfortunately the only fedora i could find today was tan........ so excuse me while i go do some spraypainting in my kitchen................

Sleep like a baby tonite Jeffrey, for while you lock down the East Coast yours truly mans the westernmost outpost of Bear Republic..........

Jdawg is starting to sound like flybait....all the negativity.

To Who Dat....dont come here with your stupid one more play and you would have lost logic....one more play and we would have blown Seattle away.....If Berrian didnt drop a pass there was a sure TD on a drive that was otherwise stalled. If Moose hadnt bobbled his pass and had it intercepted we might have eventually scored again since we would have been deep in Seattle territory! So I dont feel lucky, we made more plays than they did.

To Sanchez, Hester does not need to be on offense, unless they run a reverse for him cuz the dude cant catch. He can barely handle kick returns.

Hoo Dat - guess what? Here's where the Cinderella story, the national love, the story book ending all turn against you. Why? Because all of a sudden, the pressure has shifted. Your team has it, the Bears don't. You are now playing not just for a city but for the entire country. The Bears have yanked that playoff monkey off their backs and can now play much looser. That doesn't mean undisciplined, that means playing loose, which will result in the Bears playing up to their collective abilities. When the Bears play up to their ability is when we get the blowouts - 26-0, 34-7, 37-6, 40-7, 41-10 to name just a few. When we're playing this way, it really doesn't matter who the opponent is. We are going to see those Bears on Sunday. Is this season a success if we lose? Fuck yeah it is, the greatest season since 1985. The Bears think so too, which is why they can't wait to get on the field to make it even better - carve their names into history. The pressure is off the Bears, and now they can come and let it all hang out - Laissez les bons temps rouler! GO BEARS!!

Pissed off: Who Dat's response to me was asinine as I was only arguing to him that N.O., too, is quite lucky to be here and thus there is no grounds to talk shit (especially on a Bears site). If N.O. destroyed the Eagles (or any other halfway decent team this year) I might be afraid of them.

The difference between the two teams I think is that we left 17 points out on the field (missed INT [assuming a pick 6], missed TD Berrian, and missed sure FG [assuming Moose catches ball and is tackled immediately]). The Seahawks didn't really miss any opportunities that were present, besides 3rd and short conversions which would have simply kept drives alive. Whereas, the Eagles had a chance to score a TD (to take the lead) and opted for a FG.

Honestly, I like all the negative things these so called "experts" like that chump Wojechowski throw around. It's starting to remind me of that Ohio State/Florida comparison, and we all know what happened to the Buckeyes. The Saints haven't faced the Bears all season, nor have they played in this kind of weather, with the stakes so high. We have the home field advantage and that says a lot. Granted the Saints are the scariest team of the NFC, with some gifted skilled players, but the Bears are the greatest worst 14-3 team ever. If anything Saints nation should be terrified because we're SO unpredictable.

Strong defense up the middle and tight coverage will win this game. Devin Hester could uncork one, he's due. Rex has something to prove. And 54 is on the field at home. Watch it in high def!
