Kiss your wife. Tell your girlfriend you love her. Tell your kids you're proud of 'em. The Chicago Bears are going to the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl. Say that to yourself a couple times at work today.
I've loved sports since I've been conscious. Yesterday a throw sailed through the sky and into the hands of Bernard Berrian on the goal line. Yesterday a prayer went up and was answered. Suddenly all the years of anger and satisfaction - tears and cheers - seemed worth it.
We'll have two weeks to cite great performances and analyze the coming game. Right now I'd like to thank Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears for fighting with the heart and intensity a game of such magnitude deserves. Thank you, boys.
One more game.

Thank you, Rex, for keeping your cool.
Thank you, Wale, for not getting down when you didn't pick up the first fumble and deciding it would be more impactful to get one later.
Thank you, Brian Urlacher, for being a STUD.
Thank you, Lance Briggs. Please don't leave.
Thank you, Ron Turner, for doing what we (I) didn't think you had in you...the discipline to call the same running play 7 times in a row for a length of the field touchdown.
Thank you, Ron Rivera, for mixing it up just enough to keep them off balance but not leave the safeties vulnerable -- apart from the Reggie play that both Harris and Manning screwed up on.
Thank you most of all, Lovey. For bringing back the pride. Having faith in your team even when many fans and all media faltered. Sticking with your guys, even the criminals. Earning the Superbowl so that none one can doubt.
You earned it. We love it. Thank you.

I agree, it's another gray January day here in Evansville, IN, but to me, it's sunny as can be.
My dad called me last night and said "The Bears won in spite of Grossman". I continually ask him what about his performance was upsetting and he never has an answer. He still thinks I'm delusional about his potential (yes, he used THAT word...). His QB rating was 73. Very average. But Brees was only 83 I think...and with that 88 yarder in there it makes it look a whole lot better than it actually was.
Besides that, the Bears D played a hell of a game. The only problem I forsee is the hurry up offense of the Colts...but I forsaw all kinds of problems that were mitigated in this game save for one play...(namely, Deuce + Bush). Damn pick plays piss me off. [Almost as much as the pick and roll in basketball. (mutters "fucking Utah Jazz...moving pick sons of bitches").]

#15 Still said . . .While I was at work today (still am) I met a Bears fan who stopped in, after congratulating a fellow Bears fan on a good game etc, he says he never had cared for Grossman. Dumb old bastard. Isnt that typical, all these fair weather fans out there, some are hardcore like me but not all, they all love the backup.....now this guy never said anything about wanting Griese but what in the FUCK do these people want??!!?
This Dude (rex) could walk on water and he'd still be getting the shaft. I like it when Bradshaw interviewed Rexy after the game, when Bradshaw annoucned Rex the crowd cheered and Terry said "boy their lovin you now huh?" He was right on, they have given that guy so much shit its unbeliveable, some guys still hate him, were going to the fucking super bowl.
If Rex wasnt the most mentally tough player ever, he would have broken down weeks ago, he would have either sucked it up, cried or just told off the fans and media, but no he's kept his cool, I dont know how he does it. A ton of other players would have snapped by now.
I know this rant is long and I shouldnt be doing it on a sunny monday that it is but I just have one thing to say to all the Rex haters out there....even if you are a big bears fan......shut the fuck up, he's the best QB in years we've had, he's gotten us to the SUPER BOWL for fucks sake....what more do you want. FUCK OFF ALL OF YOU. I hate you! I love Rex, I love the Bears!

When you watch the game again, check out the look on Rex's face after the first (or second) pass on the TD drive. The look on his face was the kind of look that made me KNOW they were going to roll from there on.
I hope some of the nay-sayers on this blog come on now and say a little Zen was all he needed. Rex has the goods.
Wojo can bite me. Along with Troy, Joe Buck, Mariotti, and a host of others. We never lost faith and we got the prize. The rest of those guys can get off the wagon for all I care -- or at least buy the beer.

#20 Denny Green said . . .I have to say that the Bears defense is something that Indy hasn't seen all year. Peyton said in his post game interview that he wasn't sure how to deal with the Bears defense.
People also forget that the Colts defense gives up lots of points and have had some really bad games in the last part of the season. Giving up 34 against the Pats says something. They have weaknesses we can exploit.
Offensively we just have to run the ball effectively and be balanced with the passing game. Freeney is scary but that's it. They are quick and don't give up many big plays. We need to sustain drives and score touchdowns. Desmond Clark needs to get some catches, everytime he touches the ball he makes big plays.
I think the Colts are going to be in for a tougher game than they want. Mark Anderson and Oguleye will put pressure on Manning, but can it all be sustained with their hurry up offense.
It's intriguing! Can't wait for more.

There are other words, of course -- happy, ecstatic, vindicated, proud, excited, smug even creeps in here and there. But peaceful is the overriding emotion. The Bears proved themselves, in the most important game thus far in this amazing year. Every single Bear proved themselves. Chris Harris, will you please forgive me? (As I forgive those who allow 88 yard Reggie Bush touchdowns) Hunter Hillenmeyer, will you please forgive me? What an amazing performance, by everyone! PO'd, thank you for your comment about Rex, you are absolutely right, I don't think there can be a more mentally tough football player than this guy, and Still, I look forward to rewatching that drive and focusing on Rex's face and I'm sure getting chills. I don't think I've seen a better catch all season than Berrian's (although I have to admit Colston's catch when defended by Brian was pretty amazing). Ogunleye, what the fuck were you doing jumping up and not caring where the ball went after you stripped it--- oh, wait, hold the phone, that's what you were doing, celebrating your amazing play that was clearly over! (thank you replay officials!) PO'd, I feel for you, watching that game alone. I myself watched it with 3 kids, none older than 10, and they couldn't have been better company. My best friend down here wisely won't watch with me, too intense he says, and he doesn't like to be around me when things aren't going well - no offense taken here, he's right. Spent nearly the whole game standing, hand-hurting high 5's and running chest bumps for every big play (and there were lots of chest bumps, folks). And the phone, ringing ringing ringing or dialing dialing dialing - my 3 siblings, who were all with me and my long-since-departed dad at the Superdome in 1986 - no tears were shed, but eyes were welling up at the end, with the pouring on Lovie, Virginia McCaskey who could barely talk, Lovie, what a coach, what a MAN! Rex, and then Brian, the soul of Chicago and the Bears (even if he had to transplant himself to be such, he can't blame his parents for letting a true Chicagoan be born somewhere else). It was like too good to be true, BUT IT WAS TRUE!!! As Des Clark said yesterday, "The dream is coming true RIGHT NOW!" Amen, and Peace. 1 MORE TO GO

I keep thinking about that drive in the 2nd quarter. Thomas Jones takes the ball 8 plays in a row for 69 yards and a touchdown. No passes, no trickery, nobody else gets the ball, just keep handing it off to your running back and let him pound it down the field. They didn't stop him on the last play? Give it to him again. Eight times in a row. Basic old school smash mouth football.
It may have been the most perfect Chicago Bear drive of all time.
NO adjusting to stop that running game in the second half opened the door for Rex. And he walked through in fine style.

I would claim mad prognosticator skills because I said "The Bears are going to win the Super Bowl" to everyone I knew at the beginning of the season...but, I say that every year, so people respond "Hey, you said that LAST year too", to which I responded this year "no, but I'm dead serious this year". Of course, I said that the last two years and Grossman got hurt, so that sort of ruined my plans.
Speaking of which, my god, could you imagine if Rex had this year last year instead? Holy shit. Not only would they have won last year, THIS year would have been freaking ridiculous. Speaking of which, we're going to win the Super Bowl next year, too. Hell yeah I'll call that shit right now. Oh, am I getting ahead of myself?

I watched that play again, and yeah, there was no where to scramble except maybe straight through the back of the endzone. Three Bears, bearing down FAST on him, I'd be surprised if he didn't shit his pants on the spot.

Without Moran's permission, Johnson won't be going anywhere.
