You can worry about the secondary till the Chicago River floods downtown. You can wonder if the offensive tackles will hold up under the consistent pressure of top tier defensive ends. You can question the aww shucks coaching philosophy and whether over-exposing He Gone has slowed him a step or two on returns.
But this is Chicago Bears football and as Frank Sinatra once sang, "It's just the same old song and dance." You'd think in a city noted for its wind, a good quarterback might have blown through town by chance. But instead there were John Madden and Al Michaels talking about Sid Luckman - as every broadcaster seems to do when the guy taking (or fumbling) the snaps fails in a big spot.
Is Grossman a good quarterback? No. Might he be? Sure. But could be and maybe so won't melt the cheese on my bacon and eggs. There's a question mark on the chest of the most important player on the conference's top seed. Call him The Riddler if you want. I'm calling him Coin Flip - one side or the other. Heads and the Bears find themselves playing for it all in Miami. Tails and the Bears find themselves playing video poker at Rossi's on North State the weekend of January 21st.
The coin is in the air. We'll know which side it lands on in a couple weeks.

IMO Bears fans would rather see a consistent QB who keeps the team in the game rather than a QB who has a few huge plays but takes his team out of the game with stupid mistakes.

#4 jdawg said . . .Oh this sucks. After the Seattle game I commented on this fine site, under the '86 the 85 talk' heading, that I thought the Bears could beat anyone if they played them that week, but then I noted "I hope the Bears stay sharp and dominate all year, but so much can happen over the course of a season." Why did I have to be right? The agony of the injuries (Brown, Harris, Vasher, Tillman - it hurts to even list them) and the inconsistency of Grossman is killing me. How could we peak in week 5? I have not given up hope, and if Rex can just complete a few passes to our team we can still win in the playoffs. Hey, the Lions beat Dallas, and Dallas had something to play for, though I would take Kitna over Grossman or Griese right now. Thirteen and three is a great year and shouldn't be discounted, but it just seems like so much cruel taunting if they're just going to lose in the playoffs to a lesser team by handing them the football 4 or 5 times.

JacksonAnyway, at least Timmeh has left us. This place seems an unlikely host for a packer troll, but what the hell.
Guys, enjoy.
We're in the minority.
Our team is in the playoffs.
Its a young team (besided the offensive line). Ulracher is fucking 28 years old! I mean, jesus h christ! We're all acting like the fucking four horsemen are ringing the doorbell if we don't win the super bowl. I would love the beloved to win the superbowl; but, we all know, the playoffs take on a life of their own.
Would the Steelers have won it if Palmer's knee didn't bend the wrong way?
fuck no! and those metal dingers know it!
As it was sung in the little mermaid...

Well, I'm still in Louisville, KY and drinking Weller. I did just watch the Rundown, which I recommend for all who are faint of heart.
I recommend The House of Spirits for all who want to give Latin Literature one more chance.
I recommend Paulanger Salvator for those that like good beer.
I recommend the fucking Bears in January because they're still fucking playing.
happy new year!

#8 Still said . . .Even though you say we are young jdawg, there is no guarantee that we will win the super bowl next year, or the year after, or EVER! And eventually we are going to get old and then we'll be fucked as we rebuild. So I think what we're saying is that this is a golden opportunity we have this year, that is if Grossman completes more passes to his team than the opposition and if the defense actually decides to show up and maybe get a turnover.
January 2, 2007
#9 paytonrules said . . .In some ways, I like this low expectation thing going into the playoffs. That way if Dr. Rex and Mr. Grossman's bad side shows up or the defense gives up some painful long plays, we can always quote Denny.
I'll throw my positive two cents in...
This team is a team of emotion - particularly the defense. When they don't have it, they are average. When they have it, they are killers. The injuries hurt, but these guys play best when they are emotionally fired up. Let's face it, they have been flat for a few weeks. If they can't get fired up for a playoff game after that charade they were just in, it's over.
Dr. Rex and Mr. Grossman can't seem to get it back during a game. Once he starts down the dark path, forever it seems to dominate his destiny -- at least for the course of the game. But he can right the ship and he must.
Study what you have learned, Rex. Remember....Zen, baby.
Be still and be good.

Lucky for the Bears, it went their way many times, but many times the great things happened to the other team. Many times (like the Rams and Tampa), the refs helped Grossman out. Wake up Chicago. This is last year all over again.

Don't talk about Grossman's interceptions when your quarterback is renowned for doing the same. As Favruh is within distance of the TD record, he will have the Int record as well if he keeps playing.
To all the Bears fans, shut up. We will be fine. We will beat whatever brutal NFC team makes it past week one like we did during the season. I am almost happy Grossman lived up to his last name last week. Now he will be watching film all week and fix it. He played well last year in the playoffs. This year when he was given one half of play to show if he could be our qb, he did quite well. The guy is our QB.
Shut up about Griese. He came in and threw two picks as well. Rex is our boy. He makes us crazy but you gotta stand by your boy.

just pointing it out. i like that the bears won't have to face the two most dangerous teams (philly, NO) until the championship game....that's the nice part about being the one seed. hopefully week one they can just eek one out against the weaker three by having home field, getting some turnovers and throwing the ball less than 20 times....seriously, with this running game and the Rex Risk, only throw to keep them honest, especially on the lakefront in January.

#18 Coxy said . . .The Bears put their BEST foot forward. That's why they attempted a fake punt. The only reason for attempting a fake punt is desperation. If they REALLY thought it was a meaningless practice game, they would have punted it away. No... The Bears are only as good as they played against the Packers. Yes, early in the season they beat Seattle, with Hasselback on the sideline. Face it, if the Packers schedule included Tampa and the NYG instead of the Saints and the Eagles, they would be 10-6. If the Bears played the Saints and the Eagles in stead of the NYG and Tampa, they'd be 11-5. Then 1 fumble in Arizona is all that would seperate the Pack from the Bears, and the Pack is much better now than they were in week 1. The same can't be said about the Bears.
January 2, 2007
#19 jeff said . . .1. I would be more prone to fake punt when the game is for shits and giggles.
2. Hasselback played. I distinctly remember him shitting himself in the pocket as Tommie Harris and the line dominated.
3. You played the eagles in the first half of the year. They were not impressive then.
4. There was a plethora of "ifs" in your argument. For instance, if you had all your teeth, you would not be from Wisconsin.
January 2, 2007
#20 Justin said . . .the bears did not put their best foot forward. they benched almost every defensive starter for the entirety of the second half. they faked the punt because lovie coaches to win ballgames and they couldn't move the ball through the air, though they ran through the packers. packers fans are funny. there used to be a time when they'd win the division every year and we'd go crazy when we beat you once and your response: look who is in the playoffs! i like this side of things much, much better.
January 2, 2007
#21 Max said . . .Starting Griese is not the answer. He proved just as much as Grossman that is not capable of taking us to the superbowl. One long TD pass does not justify a start. He is not ready. To be ready for the playoffs means being up to GAME SPEED. He hasn't played all year. I say we live and die with Grossman because he has the experience - he played in last years playoff game. He was the one that got us here, not Griese. He should get the chance to take us all the way. He will recover just like he did throughout the whole season when you guys were trash talking him. What we need to do is CALL BETTER PLAYS that work to his strengths. We need to run Benson down the opponents throat...I think everything will work out of that.
January 2, 2007
#22 jeff said . . .Hey Pack is Back. . . all I am hearing from you is a bunch of if's and alot of excuses.

#24 Pissed off said . . .The Bears didnt "beat" the Rams. It was handed to them by the officials. The "incomplete pass" before the half was backwards so it was a fumble either way. Then after that gift, the bears still couldn't stop the Rams so they let the clock continue to run even after the receiver CLEARLY went out of bounds without being touched. There's NO WAY the Bears keep the score from being 20-14 at the half without the officials help. That would have changed the locker room at half-time because Lovie had Grossman on a short leash. The same sort of crappy officiating happened in Tampa when the "game winning" pass actually hit the ground but there was no review except on ESPN for the rest of the night.
Who cares when the Packers played Phily? The Bears couldn't and can't beat them. PERIOD. Same with the Saints. The Bears can't even beat the Packers, or do you have some excuse for that? Also, the Bears came home with a win from Arizona but they were beaten. It was only because they didn't blow a whistle when forward progress was stopped before a fumble occurred that gave the Bears the win.
But what the hey, I hope the Bears have to give a bunch of points in their next loss in the divisional playoffs.

#25 Pissed off said . . .The packer fan must have had a few more teeth pulled this morning cuz his wifes cock got stuck between them, thats the only reason I can think of for his crankiness. The Bears are better than the Packers, thats all there is to it, I'm pretty sure we shut you out earlier this year. I really cant even go on and comment on how backwards the argument is. So what...we lost to the Packers in a meaningless game that the players didnt show up for. We would win that game 9 out of 10 ten times, that game was our "1". Good teams FIND a way to win despite their shortcomings during a game (Rex in Arizona and vs. Minnesota, etc.) The Packers didnt find a way to win many games this year (8) thats because they werent very good, its irrelevant wether they got better as the season goes on, they lost too many games early on and never recovered, maybe you should try winning games throughout the whole year like the Bears did.
Someone else can handle my light work with this stupid packer fan and his ridiculous and untrue analogies.

I think we, (da Bears blogsters) are very good at doing our own kicking and screaming when the Bears don't play as well as they should. We are very talented at chewing out our own players without the need of others coming in and adding mindless, senseless crap to an otherwise very astute group of obviously well-educated (what other football bloggers quote Shakespeare for cryin' out loud?) and articulate pod/family of Bears fans..
Perhaps I've taken things a little too far.
I'm trying too hard.
I have to admit, I had either the toilet or a pillow in front of my face New Year's Eve but, from what my husband kept telling me.."you'll be glad you didn't get to see that play.. wait, you'll be even happier you didn't see this play.. no wait, that wasn't nice to watch at all.. forget it honey, I'm going to erase this game's entire exsistance from TiVO as soon as we get home, you are not allowed to watch it."

And why do you keep bringing up this past win by the Pack, is that what you are going to hold on to for the rest of the offseason? I guess if that makes you feel better and gets you through the offseason so be it. But you and I both know your team is far less superior than ours

#63 jeff said . . .Go ahead and delude yourself into thinking that the bears didn’t try to beat the Packers. I realize that after decades of being losers, that you want to believe that the recent transition the Packers have gone through in the past year somehow makes your team great. Too bad that the Bears are still losers, as was proven in last years playoff loss to the Carolina Panthers, the most recent loss to the Green Bay Packers, and the recent close games with the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Minnesota Vikings. All the personal attacks are clear evidence that you are rationalizing and avoiding the reality of the situation. Get real. Your starting QB had a 0.0 rating in his last outing. Of course, I’m sure you think that 0.0 isn’t much worse than the 1.3 he put in against the Vikings and somehow that was a great outing.

#65 Pat said . . ."doesn't it suck that you're forced to harp on week 17 because you don't play another one until next september?"
Not at all. I'm a realist. I predicted an 8-8 season for the Packers and a 1st round bye and a loss for the bears last summer. It seems that the bear fans are delusional though. Doesn't it suck to have that mental defect of being delusional. Of course delusional people don't realize that it sucks to be that way until after the revelation takes place, so let me ask you this way: Won't it suck to lose just like last year, after having such delusionally high expectations?

The Bears will play another game and then, if you still have a bunch of free time (or lack of a job), then you can come back and talk smack. Until then, shoo away annoying little pest. We'll play a football game to determine who gets to talk the smack.

priority number one was to beat the Packers. I don’t
know what that means personnel-wise for this game, but
I sure as shit don’t expect them to mail this one in.
December 28, 2006We should take note of that last one because the bear
fan clearly proves that lovie thought the same way that
the above delusional people thought.

#71 big rob said . . .It is amusing that when The Bears get beat by the Pack in a throw away game at the end of the regular season a couple of "packer fans" start chest thumping. Even more amusing is to see the dialogue degrade into asinine quips and childish name calling. Unfortunately, this has happened on both sides of the "debate".
Mr PIB and Dave have made it their business to seek out and harangue Bears Fans at Da' Bears Blog. I ask, to what end?
The Packers beat the Bears in this last game. The Bears ARE 13-3 and going to the Playoffs. It is what it is. All the name calling, cursing and speculation as to the future of the Bears, win or lose, does not change anything and is a huge waste of time.
My opinion and advice is to take the attitude I do with my children; if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all. And then ignore them until they lose interest in their attempts to antagonize me.
btw, Megan - It was Pocahontas... hope you feel better!

Also did anyone notice the crazy pass formations they were running and the motion on the line?!? LOVIE DONT LET ME DOWN!!!

I took a break from work to see what's going on.
Suggestion for Pack is Back (and of course your posse): maybe try the Bears.com forum for this stuff. You'll get a lot more fans pissed and some of them may actually be the idiots who were pooping on the Packers forums. I know I made the cheese curd up the pooper comment but that was in the heat of the moment and I did it on this board. I didn't go over to the Packers forums and go, in the word of Harvey Fierstein, "flame on!"
I'm sure you've got plenty to discuss over there in regards to next year. If it helps any I'm too bored to roll on the floor and laugh my ass off anymore.

I know this is your site for all of you to come rub each others asses about "Da Bears", but surely you must expect fans from opposing teams to come and talk a little shit here, don't you?
Don't get me wrong. I can understand your frustration. Hell if I were a Bears fan, I'd be pissed to. Next to MN's collapse after a 15-1 season, you will be the second biggest chokers in the NFL.

It's probably also appropriate to mention at this point that the viqueens shut out the bears offense when grossman put in a 1.3 rating, which was not his season low by the way.
January 4, 2007
#85 do you remember said . . .Perfect example of the delusional thinking by the bears fans:
"The Packers have been on the decline for years now. "
Excuse me for raining on your parade, the Packers have had 1 losing season and have steadily improved since then.
The bears, on the other hand, started out stellar on defense and would be called poor and maybe bad by most standards lately. I can't say they've gotten worse on offense though. Going from a 1.3 QB rating to 0.0 isn't enough of a decline to really say its a trend. Perpetually inept may be the more accurate way to describe it.
