Today the Chicago Bears will play for the world championship of professional football. Today the burnt orange and navy blue will vie for their chance at NFL immortality. Tomorrow is tomorrow. Today is the day football fans dream about.

Bear down, Chicago Bears. Make us proud.

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Chicago Bears fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Bears fans too. Not really knowing what a Bears fan was, but wanting to be liked by their teacher, their hands fly into the air.

There is, however, one exception. Susie has not gone along with the crowd.

The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a bears fan" she reports.

"Then," asks the teacher," what are you?"

"I'm an Indianapolis Colts fan!" boasts the little girl. The teacher asks Susie why she is a Colts fan. "Well, my Dad and Mom are Colts fans, so I'm a Colts fan too" she responds.

"That's no reason!" the teacher says "What if your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot. What would you be then?"

So after three days, I just finished moving the last box into my new apartment, and it hit me. All I have to do now is watch my team play for the world championship. not a bad deal.

everyone- have the time of your lives tomorrow. You'll remember it forever.

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

I try to be as arcane as possible, and as there will be no sleep this night, the time is for obscurities and oddities draws nigh.......
21 years...means alot to everyone in here.. as Bear fans..with our title as godfathers of American football....
As proud as we all are of the 1921 (or is it '19?-I always forget.....I also attended "Wanny's Last Stand" at old Soldier against the Packers...that got ugly in double quick time) Decatur Staleys, across the pond the Bears would be considered an expansion team.............
Which brings us to Liverpool F.C. , pride of Merseyside England, and the alltime winningest English football team...... Times had been rough for the "Reds", eclipsed domestically by Manchester United---whose fan base is eerily similar to that of the Dallas Cowboys, being that their only football argument (between rousing sessions of fingerpainting and dining on macaroni and cheese) is --Daaaahhhh, we won the most superbowls-- as they scan your produce at the local Dominick's/Marsh/Safeway/Kroger/Winn Dixie et. al.
My point is, the pride of england had fallen on hard times.... they last won the european cup---which is the superbowl of europe essentially-- in 1984 (look it up on wikipedia)...while defending their title the next year, some of their more hooligan esque fans caused a stampede, trampling several people to death (the parallels to DA FANS are eerie....I am as guilty as the rest of you at laughing at the Katrina signs 2 weeks ago.......Hell, I dropped "Hurricane Ditka" references all week....it was great)
Liverpool lost in a shootout, and was even banned from European competition for five years (The Dave Wannstedt Story)........

In 2005, as an underdog, Liverpool made a run to the Cup final against heavily favored A.C. Milan........... Andrei Shevchenko was the russian-inbred-overhyped-eurosexual version of Mr. CUT THAT MEAT!!! Himself....

The Reds charged out...and fell behind 3-0 at the half..............
It was dire, but Liverpool somehow managed to tie the game at 3, leading to a shoot-out......
And the Cup was sealed when goalkeeper Jersey Dudek---FAVORITE SON OF POLAND ---(I know that ethnicity hits home in the windy city)
started flopping around like Chris Farley "jusst havin' anuder heart attack" on the touchline.....His unorthodox windmilling (imagine Richard Simmons moonwalking) was enough to through the bluebloods off............And Liverpool F.C. had their cup.......
So if Peyton Manning leads the colts on two touchdown drives in the first quarter.......and Sexy Rexy throws a pick six........and it seems that "The Pride and Joy of Illinois" won't be enough to carry the day......regroup at halftime......remember
YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

(I know those pansy ass lyrics aren't inspiring on paper...Go to "The Google" and query ywna or you'll never walk alone videos......)

Well, as they say.. there you are, at last. Ready to make history. I nominate as key history-makers today.. Rex, BB, Rashied, Brian, Peanut, and Mark Anderson (did I forget to mention Devin? shame on me).

Rex will step up in front of Freeney's speed rush, and the dynamic duo will pound the pigskin down the Colts' throat.

I cannot believe that Rex Grossman in any way deserves the million dollar bonus for "taking" the Bears to the Super Bowl. In my eyes and those of many, he is fortunate to still be the starter despite his lack of leadership and poise, not to mention his very dismal stats. As many have previously stated, the step up of the defense and the special teams are to credit for the Superbowl birth, and it is high time that they get the help they deserve. If anyone is listening, "Please move on Rex, and find Spurrier to play for, after all you still have his mentality and approach in your "slinger" style. This will not work in the NFL and your performance proves that point." To the Bears administration and management, a plea from we fans to buy out his contract and invest in a winner, not a gambler with inconsistencies and no approach to manage games or an offense. How can he be a leader when he cannot even throw any type of pass other than a 5 yard out, a short screen, or a rainbow hail mary that typically is completed to the other team following a terrible underthrowing. I am disgusted and hope that we have learned our lessons and we can start next spring with a fresh face. Go 2008 Bears and congrats Colts, Rex should hand you the trophy.

Talk sense, man.

February 5, 2007

#80 Bill said . . .

OK - I said I'd post the truth:

Rex proved his critics right.

The defense got picked apart.

Howver, Clark DID NOT run all over Urlacher.

Rivers can't make in game adjustments.

Manning was great - took what we gave them and was patient. Had we played different, the result may well have been the same.

I thought we had trouble against the run - I jsut didnt' think the Colts would do it this well.

I think the real MVPs were the Colts O-line.

The bonus Grossman got just for getting to the SB was a crap move. He will now - justifiably - be asked if he was sayisfied just getting there.

The Benson injury was likely no factor.

The rain shou;d have favored us, but obviously favored the Colts.

The Colts game plan was very solid.

Our game plan may have been OK- the miscues make it hard to tell.

I'm disappointed that they lost - but in my mind the score was 22-17; the pick-6 was certainly the mail int he coffin, but it was a bad call and a bad throw. Anyway - that's my only "sour grapes"; the Colts offensive scored only 22 points.

It took Manning - the best QB in history apparently - 9 years to get there. The Bears - especially Rex - were not ready.

Final thought - I am a Christian and while not overly religious, I do pray and believe. I thought Dungy showed a real lack of class mentioning how the Lord helped them - or whatever he said that clearly meant the Lord was on thier side. Meaning the Lord was against Lovie and the Bears. Religion has it's place - the Lord does not give a shit who winds the Super Bowl. That was - in my mind - an insult to his freind Lovie.

February 5, 2007

#81 BearDown said . . .

I talk sense as soon as Grossman can hang onto the ball -- I hope was taking notes watching Manning play -- there is a real QB

February 5, 2007

#82 Bill said . . .

Bear Dn - keep it in perspective. Manning is a real QB but it took him NINE YEARS to get there.

I give Rex one more year. He simply cannot be responsible for so many turnovers. The simple fact is - assuming he didn't fumble - Orton woudl have done better. He's no NFL QB either - but he woudl have done better.

The turnovers are too costly. Period. If he can't stop it - then the Bears have to look again.

Frankly - I wouldn't care if Lovie left or stayed. I wouldnt' care if Rivera left or stayed. Lovie handled Rex wrong, in retrospect. Rivera can't make in game adjustments.

February 5, 2007

#83 BearDown said . . .

Grossman will get his chance next year . . . that is for sure . . . I hope he spends the offseason working on his game nonstop to validate all this love he is getting . . . if he stinks up the early games next year, may he get many splinters sitting on the bench.

February 5, 2007

#84 Bill said . . .

By the way- for all the people on the board that took so much pleasure in seeing the Bears lose - what part did you play in making that happen? It's easy to pick against an underdog - after all, over half the time they lose. It's easy to say a team won't win the SB - 31 teams do that every single year. It's harder to be a fan of a team win or lose.

For the Packer fans - your team was officially set back another year or two becuase Favre won't walk away. They won't make the playoffs- this may well be the year he can't finsih the season - but he'll get the TD (and INT) record. So what? In the meantime his eventually replacement waits another year.

To the Saints fans - you lost. Tell me you'd rather have lost the NFC Championship than lose to the Colts in the SB? IF so I''m happy we were able to grant that wish.

To the Colts fans - congratulations! Your team deserved it. Now show some class. It took you too long to get here - considering how great your QB was. Now that they did - enjoy it. I recall the SB XX vividly and assumed they'd be back. They never were - but NOTHING was better than that one year. I hope my kids get to see something like that - but there are THIRTY TWO teams!! They are ALL trying to win it. (Well, maybe not the Lions!) Free agency, the draft, injuries - it's hard to get there once and ever harder to get there again. So the Colts - to their credit - seized the momnet. Plus they had more talent overall - not just Manning either.

Nuff said??

C'mon - the Bears were in the SUPER BOWL. Would you rather have Favre and not make the playoffs? Good - because that's what the Packers have.

QB is the most important position - but it takes a team to get there. The Packers don't have one yet - but it goes in cycles and they will be up there again some day. You will have your share of Grossmans (who ironically the Packers were going to draft that year) and Ortons. The consensus - according to a Packer fan I work with - from Wisconsin, not a Bear hater but an actual Packer FAN - is that Aaron Rogers is not the answer.

Any team that didn't even make the playoffs is by definition in worse shape than the Super Bowl rep - win or lose.
