I'm opening this one up to our readers because it's a question I haven't quite answered for myself yet. Where should the Bears go with the 31st and 37th picks of this year's draft?
I'm leaning towards offensive and defensive line but I'm nowhere near certain.
#2 craig said . . .I'm with you. Sort of confused. I wouldn't mind seeing us grab a guard. And it's sounding like we could use a DT. But I'm not completely sold on either.
We could also use depth at safety, maybe an insurance policy at OLB, or a TE. I don't know...

#3 jeff said . . .I just read on KFFL that the Bears are looking to re-sign Ian Scott and potentially trade for Adam Archuleta. That would change things, no?

#4 Max said . . .i wanted archuleta last year and i think he'll give the team a great insurance policy for the mike brown IR trip come Week 3

#5 Ted in IA said . . .. . . and then he will get hurt in week 6. Im just kidding but i would rather draft a the best player available at the O-line, Saftey, D-line, or maybe a TE but id rather have the others before Olsen.
if we resign Ian Scott, then O-line, saftey or TE. And if there is linebacker who looks like a playmaker at those positions, then i say go for it. . . Briggs is gonna be gone at somepoint soon.

#6 Pissed off said . . .O-line and safety would be my first choices. The average age of the OLers is getting up there, and we will be lucky to get through this year with the ones we have - much less next year.
Safety is one glaring weakness, with Mike Brown's unfortunate tendency to get dinged. He is great when he's out there.. but... I have hopes that D Manning will learn to be that terrorizing Safety that we need, use that speed to deliver the lumber on whoever tries to catch one over the middle. Hunter may be the smartest Bear (and I am sure he is nice to his mother), but he doesn't cause shivers in any other team.
I know that Jerry will find us some LBs and receivers, and some DLers on day 2 or 3. I have faith, based on his selections from the past drafts. Go BEARS

#7 JB said . . .Agree with max in #4, we should be taking best available at positions of need, and I think the most glaring of those is O-Line, DT, and CB. If theres a better DT than a CB or O-lineman available at 31, take the DT. We'll get the others on the next go around.
I like how everyone gets pumped for mediocre talent to get signed. Adam Archuletta......PAHLEASE. He's got some game but he aint Mike Brown and I think that D Manning and C Harris will be passing his skill level by this year too. Its about as funny/stupid as Minnesota fans getting exited about Bobby Wade and Visanthe Shancoe (sp).

#8 craig said . . .Is it too crazy to want an OG and OT with the first 2 picks? I don't think there is a question that one of those picks will be spent on OL.
When you look at the depth of the draft, it has a lot of top end WR's and only a couple top TE's...
How would you feel if we took a Guard (to replace Reub or compete w/Garza) and we took a Zach Miller from ASU or someone like a Robert Meachum from Tenn (big wideout w/that fabled leaping ability we need to replace the aging Moose)?
Basically, I don't see the Bears going D with the 1st 2 picks because they have some guys that they expect to step up (Dusty at DT and Jamaar at LB) if they need to...and lay off Mike Brown.

#9 Megan said . . .@PO'd: I've never liked Archuleta, really, but if they do this trade then they obviously don't spend a pick on a safety in the early rounds. That's all.
@Ted: I feel the same way about Hunter.
@JT: I wouldn't mind OG at 31 and TE or WR at 37. But I'd be happy too if they just went BPA. Either way, I think we'll get what we need. As Ted said, Jerry and Co. have a knack for finding solid guys in the middle rounds too.

#10 Phil from SATX said . . .O-line. We need some help up there. A good TE would be nice.
Other then that, the draft fairy on our side.

#11 Mike said . . .Is anyone in favor of combining the two picks for a #11-#16 first round pick (being the ranges of what I have heard those two would combine for). I'm torn - it starts getting pretty exciting when you look at the names slated to go with these picks -
like Ted Ginn Jr., Greg Olsen, Levi Brown, Amobi Okoye from Louisville at DT or Laron Landry from LSU at safety. Olsen and Landry would be the #1 at their position, while the other 3 are #2's.It's also seems to reason that true impact players should clearly be available at 31 and 37. Wonder what the Bears will do? It's starting to look like best player available theory will work pretty well, unless that player is a running back - as all have said, we need OL, DL, safety, WR, TE, probably CB and LB as well.

#12 Mike said . . .I wouldn't mind seeing them go O-Line. Some of the guys on that line are getting a little older. It probably would be a good idea to find their replacements.

#14 Pissed off said . . .NFL Net is also reporting that Archuleta will be either traded to the Bears or released and signed by the Bears. He had a lot of success under Smith and would be a good insurence policy for Brown.
I think we should go offense in the first round, and either TE, or WR.
Again, we need play makers at both positions and more consistancy would help too. I'd really like Olsen for the Te's and it's starting to look like people are thinking Jarrett may fall closer to where the Bears are at.
The 2nd te Miller would be a solid choice as well. I really don't want to take a depth position in the first round.March 20, 2007
#15 Al in WI said . . .I dont mind Archuletta, but we cant overpay for this guy. Thats fine if they pick him up on the cheap and then we dont have to necasarilly go for a safety in the draft, we can focus on other areas which are much needed.

#16 craig said . . .Last report I read had us sending a conditional mid-round draft pick in the '08 draft for Archuleta. (Fox Sports)

#17 jdawg said . . .It's important to note that if the Archuleta trade is done, Washington is going to restructure his contract so we don't end up having to honor that ridiculous deal they gave him last year. But it would be nice if they just dropped him and we didn't have to give up a pick. I don't know for sure that he's worth it.

#20 Mike said . . .GREG OLSEN AND BRIAN LEONARD?

#21 Dave said . . .I really, really like Leonard. He's a hell of a power runner, is extremely versatile, and has great speed. Maybe as our second pick? I'd like to see a DL guy with the first, but I don't really know who'd be available. I saw some Tenn. guy on a few mock drafts, anybody else see that and remember it better than I do?

I think the Bears should draft Chris Leak out of Florida.
Bring in a Florida winner to replace a Florida loser.
Hell, what have you got to lose.
