I Have Very Little To Say

Thursday, April 19, 2007 | Jeff

I realized this morning as I stared at Day 112 of my last post that I don't know anything about this draft. To be honest, I don't care. What is the draft? It is an excuse to drink for long hours at the end of April each year. You know what? That's not an excuse I needed.

And if the Bears have proven anything it's that they know more than me. Jerry Angelo has been the best late-round drafter in the NFL the last three years. He'll do the right thing and the Bears will come out fighting in September.

So today I offer YOU this website. If there's a column you've been itching to write, let us know. If there's a player in the draft you think we need to know more about, let us know. Between now and next Saturday - this space is yours. Just send an email to dabears@dabearsblog.com and we'll set you up with your own column. Pissed Off, Midway, Phil...everybody. Take it over.

Bear Down.

Most of these guys write full columns anyway! PO'd gets PO'd when anybody writes anything too lengthy.
I think it would be great for all of them to get a say and then we could respond in kind.
This time of year is like a void for me. There's basketball (hubby is a Celtics fan...nuff said) I have ablsolutely NO clue what to expect from the draft.
I would totally appreciate everybody's input, not like we haven't heard it already, so... jazz it up a little, throw some humor in there. BUT, don't go Jim Rome, or Salsbury or tony kornhole.. what ever the hell his name is.. on us. ( I hate that guy in MNF... he reminds me of a yippie dog that won't shut up!)

C'mon Kornheiser is great, he's far better than the clowns they've had before. I like this idea, I dont have anything sticking in my craw at the moment but rest assured something will come up....and when it does, I'll let you know. Thanks Jeff.

I support Kornheiser. I listened to him on ESPN radio, and then PTI, and then MNF and I love it. Jim Rome sucks though.

And no worries Jeff, for all that the "experts" say, they have about as much clue as we do when it comes to the draft who is going to be drafted when.

O Lord help me not to take the toaster in the shower!

I feel so alone, Kornheiser? *sigh* alas, I know you guys aren't Madden fans, --I usually turned off the sound and tried to listen to streaming WBBM online. I know that they are getting rid of Theisman, who's the other rabid dog in the booth? he reminds me of the little dog in the old cartoons... you know the one that wants approval from the big dog, Spike?
"whattaya wanna do now, Spike?, Huh?"Pant pant..

Okay, one more gripe.. can we please stop bringing the "celebreties" into the booth? I could give a rat's ass about what movie he/she is promoting. I just want to watch the game.

Midway.. oh darlin'... just make sure if there is a tornado warning that you get your ass outta there!

Jeff, could I rant and rave about rule changes that ought to occur? Hunter S. Thompson style? Shoot, I'll send it to you anyway and you can disregard and I'll totally understand.

I totally agree with the sentiment towards the annoucers. American announcers tend to make the game about them, just as people on Sportscenter have done since Chris Berman started his pointless nicknames. I guess if the players like them it must be awesome. While I think Kenny Mayne is funny, I don't want to see that crap when I'm watching highlights. Maybe it's because I was such a big hockey fan growing up and just like the facts, but my god, these people just suck balls. Most games this year were watched on mute while I listened to music and worked out, so that was kind of nice.

I tell you what though, I'd take Darren Pang or Bill Clemente or Gary Thorn on the air. Too bad Charlie Steiner isn't alive anymore.

And while I'm at it, to hell with Jeremy Schaap. Little prick. I loved when Bobby Knight told him off. That was friggin' awesome.

And I'll keep going, to hell with the sports reporters. I could not stand waking up on Sunday morning and realizing I missed Sportscenter. That was absolutely depressing. Fortunately, I received sega's NHL hockey every year so I could just play that until football started (I had some madden games, but hockey is so much more fun because you control 20% of the players on the ice, although, recently Madden made it a darn near necessity to control lead blockers/change receiver routes with the right analog stick and growing up on Nintendo/Sega makes that all kinds of suck).

Oh, another thing about highlights...anyone noticed that there is a lot more talking and a lot less highlight lately? Similar to MTV not showing videos anymore. If you're going to show the same show 10 times in a day, why not include one or two with no commenting and just highlights of the nights games. Show the scores then on to next highlights.

Ok, sorry for the rant. I hate sportscasters with a passion...

Yeah Thiesman needed to go. I dont mind the guests, when they're Bears fans anyway, like Belushi. And i guess I'm in the minority but I dont mind listening to Madden and Michaels, its only about 17 times per year (give or take for pre and/or post season).

Hey mike, good rant but tell us how you really feel!?

I LOVE Madden (and Michaels). They are the only ones who call a game "down the middle", rather than rooting for the Bears' opponent. If I had to listen to that little adenoidal twit Joe Buck any more, I think I'd have to go postal on him.
I don't watch SportsCenter except during the NFL season, so they don't bug me one way or another. I used to love Summerall, because he would just let the action speak for itself, but crying about that loss is like wishing for water from the moon - it ain't gonna happen.
Anyway, thanks for opening up the blog for our individual rants. No doubt this is my favorite blog, the one I always turn to first. One think I like is that there is general agreement (except for the Pecker Becker), but many differing opinions as to how the Bears should best give themselves the chance to win.
NEXT WEEK - the Draft ! OMG. I have been reading and preparing for this for months, and.... I still am not sure of anything except the first half dozen picks. How JA finds gems in later rounds, I do not know. Looks like we might get Pozlusny or Beason, which should ease the pain of seeing Lance sulk. If not, Sears or Blalock, and our OL problems will be eased. Beyond that, I hope for a TE or WR who even Rex can't overthrow - maybe Steve Smith... just hope that Detroit doesn't pick Calvin Johnson, or we will be seeing him twice a year for the next decade.

BEAR DOWN !

Madden and Micheals are quite fun...the random stuff Madden says just makes your day.

And Kornheiser...just go away. He's way too know-it-all for my tastes. Most of that Monday Night Football cast is not a good match for announcing.

charley steiner btw does dodgers play-by-play. he's very good when i catch him late night on XM.

kind of agree about this year's draft....at least last year people generally agreed the bears needed a TE, that didn't happen and i remember being pissed about hester, especially when they said he wouldn't play offense.....little did we know.

anyhoo, last year kind of taught me that the bears have a good scouting/drafting core in place and that you should sit back, relax.....although i'll be rooting for LBs and Offense of all kinds, no real reason to draft any other defense guys this draft.
