The 2007 NFL Draft Day One

Saturday, April 28, 2007 | Jeff

12:33 pm
Detroit takes wide receiver.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

12:58 pm
Draft is boring the shit out me
Devin Hester appears in Madden commercial.
Anybody else think Devin Hester would be much better not speaking out loud? (6 PBRs are waiting to go down my throat)

1:04 pm
GET UP THERE, BEARS! GET THAT SIXTH PICK! MAKE ME CRACK THAT FIRST PBR WITH PRIDE!

1:31 PM
Bears pick in a couple hours. The NFC North is stocking offensive talent.

1:55 pm
THE FIRST STUPID PICK OF THE DAY! TEDDY GINN!
Brady Quinn is now going to end up somewhere very interesting. Possibly Green Bay? Jacksonville? Carolina?
Here's the truth of the situation: Terry Shea masterminded this selection because Terry Shea is a fucking moron. And this pick could only have been made by a fucking moron.

3:00
Packers on the clock and Brady Quinn sitting there. Do they think Aaron's any good? They shouldn't because he's not. What happens here? If it is Greg Olsen...I won't care for that. I can see him catching touchdowns over the middle at Soldier.

3:34
Had four PBRs. Feeling good. Here's my opinion on the Brady Quinn drama. Maybe he just stinks. I hope the Bears take him to stir a nice debate on the site.

3:45
Nothing to add. Just getting a little more liquored up. Figured I'd say hello. Hi. How are you? Draft sucks. My white linebacker is still out there.

4:22
Quinn to Cleveland. They're going to be the consensus first round winner. Wait and see. Olsen still out there. Never assume the Bears will take a tight end when there's good kick returners on the board.

4:24
Cracked another PBR. Anybody else see Brady Quinn interviewed and wonder: (1) How big a douche is this guy? (2) Why is his girlfriend so average? I've had sexual relations with women more attractive.

4:50
Pats just took a thug. Why is it only okay when they do it? Sean Salisbury just said that it's okay he has a gun problem and an on-field fight problem because he never had either problem twice. You know who else never repeat offended? Hitler. He only committed genocide once. Does that make him okay, Sean? This just goes to prove once again that Sean Salisbury is the king of the douches. Why does ESPN continue to employ this jerkoff? PBR has brought out the anger, baby, I'm cooking with gas.

4:54
I have a growing problem.

5:11
I'm growing hungry. Greg Olsen keeps sliding down the board. I don't see him going to San Diego or New England or Baltimore. If New Orleans doesn't take him here, the Bears might grab him.

5:20
Okay, okay, okay...
Meachem goes to the Saints. Pats, Ravens, Chargers left. If Olsen is sitting there at 31, I emplore these Bears I love so much to take the man. Take the goddamn man. This team could find themselves in the dynamic position of being able to run two tight end sets. It'll open the entire middle of the field. This is a big talent I thought would be gone in the mid teens.

5:32
Pats trade off to Niners. Niners don't need tight end. Olsen will be on the board.

5:46
Penn State Paul and G-Reg on the board. Come on, San Diego. Stay out of the way.

5:54
Fucking Chargers are taking Olsen? Why the fuck would they do that? They have the best tight end in football? Son of a bitch.

5:57
Who is Craig Davis? I've never heard of him. OLSEN!!!!!

5:58
Take Olsen.

5:58 1/2
Take fucking Olsen.

5:59
Stop being dicks and take Olsen.

6:05
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6:07
Son of a bitch! Way to go, Jerry! I love it..
BOYS AND MEGAN, DON'T FORGET. WE PICK AGAIN IN LIKE TWENTY MINUTES. STILL GOOD PLAYERS ON THE BOARD.

6:21
Penn State Paul needs to fall five spots. Five spots and he's ours. Detroit and Tampa don't feel like threats. Philly might be but they got Spikes. My two boys are Posluz and Leonard. If they grab one, I'm going to the biggest Jerry Angelo blowjob column of all time.

6:27
Branch gone. Good value for him in the early 2nd. My boys still out there.

6:30
Pos gone. Fuck me in the rear.

6:40
So I want Brian Leonard from Rutgers. That's who I want. And if Philly doesn't take him...I'd like him. That's 70 bucks, Jerry, for your organization. Because I'm buying the jersey.

6:47
Eagles make a dumb pick. Nice. Brian Leonard is fantastic. Take him here, Bears. Though there are some nice players on the board.

6:53
Traded out. Fucking douche.

7:00
Jerry Angelo flexes his genius cock.
He gets a 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 3rd next year.
The best move in the history of the draft.

7:28
I still can't get over what he collected for an early 2. I'm just sitting waiting for Brian Leonard to fall, fall, fall down the chart. Another telecast note: us in the NY area have to endure these stupid stop smoking ads. Is making people stop smoking really a big deal? People like smoking. Let them smoke. If they die...at least they did something they liked when they were alive. If no one did anyone that can kill them when they were alive, life would be a god damn convent.

8:08
God, the draft is exhausting. And booze...booze makes you drunk. And ladies and germs, I'm close.

8:19
Brian Leonard is a Ram. So I can't win em all.

8:20
No angry rant....

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, I'm here till the pick at 62 then I'm out for the night...which is even dumber.

8:53
Bears approaching. I'm now drinking screwdrivers because I ran out of PBR. 12 never enough. My typing: perfect.
As for funny: the Raiders acquired Mike Williams and Josh McCown today. My question: "Don't you have enough shitty players on offense?"

9:09
We're next. Don't know what we need.

9:17
We take Dan Bazzzwaoin.....
I've never heard of the guy. But he'll probably rock.

Love ya all.

I'm out.

jax's trade down has to be to pick quinn. great move. none of the teams in between (cincy, tennessee, giants) will take quinn, they picked up a 3rd and 6th rounder for free, and they get to pay quinn less money.

now, watch them a) not take quinn or b) someone trade up in front of them to take quinn first.

anyone care to answer why detroit or cleveland hasn't offered next year's #1 to one of these teams in the teens-twenties so they can get quinn this late? other than the fact that they're detroit and cleveland, and that's why they pick this high?

Im perched on the internet in Vienna following the draft and right as i was listening to the Bears pick being announced on ESPN Radio my Chicago Bears dogtag (the only Bears paraphanalia I have with me on this trip) mysteriously fell off its chain. Should I be taking that as a bad omen or am I just crazy from being hunched over a shitty net connection in a hostel LISTENING to the NFL Draft for the last couple hours. (And I used to think the thing could drag on when I was watching it on tv.)

#20 craig said . . .

errr... wait... so is it like we traded Thomas Jones for a 3, a 5, and a 3 next year (cuz we dropped back to where we'd been in the 2nd round)?

April 28, 2007

#21 Green Lantern said . . .

great trade.....you got a low 2nd, a low 3rd, a low 5th, and next year's 3rd from the chargers......all for a high #2!!!

with the bears ability to pick in low rounds.....i'll take 4 picks for one, no matter what you think about brian leonard! great deal angelo! great pick of olsen too! love the day.

#22 BRIANsong said . . .

Also, I must add that I like your timeline of thoughts. It has been fun to read.

How far do you think Brian Leonard will fall?

Great, Great, draft so far. Adding a weapon for Rex shows that they do support him, and realize as some of us pointed out, that they needed more talent from pass catchers. We finally have someone we can build our passing game around. Excellent job from Jerry, all around.

seems like a bit of a reach, at a position where you don't have a need.....a bit strange but you have to give them the benefit of the doubt after the last few drafts.

senor helmet hair likes him for what it's worth, he did look reallll fast in those clips, some against mich and in the senior bowl....i thought a LB or OLine or maybe WR, but i guess those will be later in the draft (lots of picks left!).....espn talking to lovie soon.

Well about time we adressed that TE position.

I guess I'm as great as these"experts"on who going to be drafted where.I love that every team took a long piss on all these "experts"mockey draft boards.I guess I can stick to throwing monkey poo at a "mock"draft an come up with the same results.
JA what a shewd man on that trade. You go JA!earn that new contract!
Next year can we not have a 15min time limit between picks,Jeez you had since Feb to pick apart these draft picks.

Garett Wolfe and Michael Okwo

I'm pretty excited about the Wolfe pick.

April 29, 2007

#43 Max said . . .

Wolfe is a solid pick. Started out the year hot, but was shut down once everyone realized Nortern Illinois couldnt pass.

I know nothing about Michael Okwo, but i soon will.

April 29, 2007

#44 Heyman said . . .

I'm a student at Stanford University with Okwo. After the single worst season in Stanford memory, Okwo was the one bright spot of the team (and, yes, that includes the highly touted Trent Edwards). He had some pretty bone crushing hits this season, and I couldn't be more excited to see him as a Bear. He will only serve to make this defense even stronger than it already is. GREAT pick-up.

April 29, 2007

#45 Megan said . . .

I guess the reason we/Jerry got rid of our #37 pick was because we WERE looking at picking up Anthony Gonzales WR from OSU, but the Colts picked him up at #32. (that's according to the Chicago Tribune).

April 29, 2007

#46 Ray said . . .

What were the Bears thinking? We're dying with Rex Grossman at QB. Last year we sit around on our A@& and watch Leinert fall in the first round. THEN this year we sit on our hands an do nothing with Quinn trying to fall into our laps. TRADE UP (in the round and at the position). What a horrible draft. Great pick, a TE that doesn't/can't block. When was the last time anybody other than Brett Favre's Pack had a pass first block later TE?
