Is David Ball destined to be the next Tom Waddle?
Those of you who frequent this site understand that I don't throw T Dubs around. Tommy is my all-time favorite Chicago Bear but word leaking slowly out of the hallowed grounds of Halas Hall seem to insinuate there's a new Dubs in town.
I'm not going to write columns praising guys in mini-camps. But David Ball...I've got my eye on you.
#2 jdawg said . . .Yes, Mr Ball certainly has caught the attention of true Bears fans who remember Tommy W. Talk about leaving it all on the field... TW would occasionally leave organs like his spleen, also - BUT he always made the catch (in my rose-colored glasses memory, anyway). Never saw a tougher individual, pound for pound, except for MY all-time favorite Bear, Danimal Hampton. He played without any knee joints, and never complained. (The guy who had to block him complained enough for them both).
If Dave Ball can be a mere shadow of TW, we will all be smiling. The other rooks I have been watching with great interest are Garrett Wolfe (sheeze Louise, haven't seen anyone run like that since Barry Sanders) and Kevin Payne, who promises to "bring the pain" on a regular basis. We may have an embarrassment of riches at the safety spot once MB comes back strong.
Can't wait for minicamp (Lance who?).

#3 JB said . . .Would Ball have to displace Davis or Bradley? If so I see Davis cut if Wolfe can line up out of the slot and catch as well as has been reported. But Man, Wolfe lookes TINY! But like he said, there's no dunking in football.
Anyway, the scout's word on Ball is that he has incredible hands but isn't fast enough to get open in the NFL. I don't cherish the thought of Grossman throwing into coverage.

#4 jeff said . . .Jeff, TDubs is your alltime favorite player and I get no Dap from you for telling my heartfelt TW autographed jersey story???
I think that having a guy like that would do a lot for the team in terms of morale. In other news, Greg Olsen just caught another pass.

#7 Bearfan34 said . . .Remember that time Jerry Rice came into the league and he was too slow? All he did was set records like crazy in college at a crappy school...
Also, with a 6'7" high jump, he could line up in the backfield and do like Walter used to do...he could jump over Urlacher. Of course, they won't actually DO that, but it's fun to think about.

Tom Waddle, a guy who played every down like his last. I thought he was a good WR back in the day. I remember writing to about six Bears players when I was in 5th grade. Tom was the only one who sent my card back autographed, I still have it today on my wall.
It's nice to see a post about ab old Bear player who hardly ever got any credit. I always enjoy watching Tom on the final word, he tells it how it is!
As always,
Bear Down!
