Tank Gets 8 Games

Monday, June 4, 2007 | Jeff

But it looks like it'll be reduced to six. The Morality Czar has decreed that Tank Johnson's suspension can be reduced from eight games to six games if he meets the following conditions:

1. No further adverse involvement with law enforcement and full compliance with any requirements imposed by a court. 2. Compliance with all league requirements, including counseling. 3. No participation in any practices or other organized team activities during the period of the suspension. Johnson may, however, be present at the Bears' facility during the suspension for counseling sessions and other approved activities such as physical treatment or individual workout sessions.

I like a lot of about this. I like that Tank can get a reduced sentence for good behavior. I like that he'll be allowed at Halas Hall for individual workouts and treatment. I like that he'll be returning Week 7 in Philadelphia. This will be the last time I say it so I'm gonna say: I am incredibly proud of the Chicago Bears have handled the Tank Johnson situation. They treated him not like an employee but like a family member. I hope Tank keeps his nose clean and repays this great debt he owes the organization.

Point of Clarification; Does this mean he can't go to training camp or preseason games?

I was pulling for 4 games,
It kinda stupid to have a suspension with a option clause.
But it does help the Bears in getting him back sooner.
Great summary Jeff,He owes this team alot

BearDown Tank an knuckle up.

I'm just glad it's over with. I think that it's all good. He'll come back against Philly, get some PT and play himself back into shape for the first 2 games, and then he'll be fresh for the 2nd half of the year. In the meantime, I'm excited to see what we'll get from Dusty and Anthony Adams. Beef sticks for everyone in celebration.

Counseling sessions huh? I trust some teach-em-to-love-everyone group-hugging bed-wetting Nancy-boy shrink doesn't play mind games with him and soften him up!

We want our Tank ready to kill when he is back in action.

he can attend but not participate. the "best" thing about this suspension is that he won't be disassociated from the team - which often does more harm than foul. that's what happened to koren robinson and pacman.

"Johnson is eligible to participate in the Bears’ offseason workout program, training camp and preseason games before the suspension begins after the team’s final preseason contest Aug. 30 against the Browns."

I was actually a little bit shocked when I heard it was 8 games. I probably shouldnt have been but I was. I am glad to hear it will probably be cut down to 6 but I still was hoping it would be less.

So by participating in practice I translate that into 1) hold dummies for the other linemen (do they still use dummies in the NFL), 2) beat the hell out of all rookies (always a treat for vets) and 3) run wind sprints (linemen always need to run sprints).

Did you see that Trent Green finally was traded to Miami? He was traded for a 5th round pick. WTF! The story I read says it might end up being a 4th rounder depending on how much Green plays, and my guess is that he'll be starting the majority of the games this year with Culpepper probably being cut or still injured and Cleo Lemmon riding the pine of course.

This just makes me think how low the value is for trading proven players and how high the value of unproven draft picks is. A RB in the top third of the league will only demand a second round pick in a trade, yeah a boderline pro-bowl back for a 2nd round pick. And Green, who's old and some may say past his prime, I say winding down but has at least 2 real good years left, gets traded for a 5th rounder. I'm surprised more teams didnt have interest in Green for trading only a 5th rounder. He's a pro bowl QB for fucks sake! Im glad he didnt go to the Vikes, they really could have used him. I guess what I'm saying is that I like Trent Green, he's a vet, a pro-bowler, one of the toughest QBs around and he's always producing......and only traded for a 5th rounder.

PO- Yeah its amazing isn't it? I think this is ole Joe Gibb's approach to the NFL (trade players for draft picks), which is why I was surprised he didn't trade with the Bears during the draft (so the Bears could trade up). Go figure.

I like Trent a lot and so long as he is not in the NFC North, then enjoy.

I also see the Bears signed Timon Marshall (Arena League Grand Rapids Rampage).

I'm going to go ahead an disagree with you two. I think that the value for Green is right on. He is no longer a viable option in KC (Huard & Croyle are being paid well & Green is disgruntled). Trading him for the 4th (we'll assume it'll be that) rounder in next years draft, who can turn into a starter for 6-7 years, or be a bust, whatever, is better for the Chiefs than carrying a guy they no longer see for their franchise. The Dolphins benefit because of the uncertainty at QB obviously, but this is a stop gap for 1 year, at the very most 2...and let's be honest, the Dolphins are not competing for a championship anytime soon.

On the TJ trade, yeah, it sucked, but trade from depth (which we had), and we traded TJ for Bazuin, Wolfe, and Payne...obviously tbd on those guys, but I like having 3 potential playmakers for the next 10 years than 1 RB who was in a position to make some Briggs-like demands, and give Ced Ben a full look. So, although the media likes to say it's a win now league, the teams that have put together good seasons lately are teams that have built for the long haul (Chi, NE, Ind).

Can we fast forward through summer and get to the San Diego game already?

To JB regarding Green: I agree that he wasnt an option anymore in KC with Huard and Croyle and he's aging, etc but I still think that KC got too little in return. He's not the franchise and this is a great quick fix for the Dolphins, KC just got too little for him.

I want to agree that Miami wont be competing for the Super Bowl but lets not forget that going into last year many people said Miami was going to be competing for the Super Bowl and they had a damn nice run last year too. They were supposed to unseat New England as the division winner. They wiped the floor with us. The team has improved since last year with free agency and draft picks and with Green at QB, they could very well be a force in the AFC.

Tank already did his time in the pokey and has paid his debt to society. Why is the NFL trying to get their pound of flesh? I think Mr. Goodell is just trying to make a name for himself ... at the expense of Bears fans all over the country.
