Da' Bears Blog

Tuesday With Mike

Wednesday, June 6, 2007 | Jeff

So we've hit the big time...

On June 19th, Mike Ditka will be giving a motivational lecture at the Holiday Inn in Edison, New Jersey. (For info on the event, click here.) There will also be a press conference and guess who's been invited as a member of the press.

Jeff Hughes, DaBearsBlog.com

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, you now have a pipeline directly to da coach. Hopefully I'll get him to say something terrible that he'll regret for the rest of his life and will make our site the TMZ of the sports world.

So what should I ask him? Is there anything you guys are desperate to know?

HA! Got to be first again!

I'd ask: Don't you feel that the NFL reaching out to Europe is a mistake?

Dear Da Coach,

Do you regret not giving Sweetness the opportunity to score in the super bowl?

As always,

Bear Down!

He's been asked the sweetness thing a million times,
and he said he regrets it everyday of his life.

Does anyone else agree that him being one of the most popular Bears coaches in football history after only winning one superbowl actually speaks volumes to the lack of quality of the Bears program in the last two decades rather than his popularity as a coach?

Okay, The Duke, then how about this:

Mr Ditka, as you are aware the Da Bears Blog site is compromised of the most brilliant football minds in our nation. How would you harness this think tank to better the world as well as beat the Packers?

#5 JB said . . .

Midway... I think you mean "comprised"... compromised by brilliant minds would be an interesting statement...

I would try to focus a question on this year's team like, on a scale of 1 to awesome, how do you rate the '07 squad or how many beef sticks could you put away in your playing days? Or maybe I'd ask what player would he have most wanted on his team from this current team.

i'll admit i read the "compromised" and thought that midway was making scathingly political indictment of the journalistic integrity of this site

Well, my comment was intended to be a pimento of my depreciation to thank everyone for making the site necessary.

I would ask him to ponder upon the ways that this site, and more importantly, its key contributors, could use their fine blogging skills to become wealthy via this fine site.

I would also ask him if he knows of the site and to become a regular contributor thus heightening the popularity, thus making it read more, leading to paid column writing deals. (Maybe in an opinions style sports section)Hey, I might have answered m own question. If there was a way for me to make a living doing something "Bears related" I would be on it in a second. To further my poing this site does not get near enough publicity however the format is not set up for such as anyone can blog. In the future, if it gets to be too large we may need to incorporate a login system for members such as the current regime.

That of couse is not my call, it is after all Jeff's site. Thank you master Jeff.

I LOVE THIS SITE!!

Jeff,
That is so cool. I feel like I am in the presence of coolness. I will never wash this keyboard again! Seriously, that is so great! Weehoooo!
Iron-Mike?! wow, like so wow. Da actual coach.
I miss his witty reparte.. (spelling anyone?)
I know he was not all that impressed with last year's team. He kinda dogged them in pre-stuper-bowl interviews.
I wonder what he thinks about all the trouble the players are getting into these days and is it really that much different or are we just in the age of full-disclosure?
Respectfully yours in dabearsfan-dom,
Megan

Ask "Da Coach" Why they never named a street after him in Chicago like Hol"germ" in GB?
And why he didn't particpate in the"Super Bowl Shuffle"song

Jeff your a lucky man, offer him a Coor's light an see if he can tell you a couple of NFL stories.
That's what my mom did at an old Bears Convention.

Please nobody say anything shallow about my mother,See has been a lifer for the Bears.

#11 Coxy said . . .

I would just try to ask him something that could be used in those Coors light commercials?

like "Do you think the bears will be thirsty for another superbowl appearance?" or something of that nature.

June 7, 2007

#12 Megan said . . .

Coxy? why would you want to go for the Coors light ad angle? Jeff is a serious journalist. (crickets chirping....)
Honestly, if he wants to be taken seriously, I think he should ask him something serious. At least for his first question. Then if he wants to do something that I bet has never been asked of him before (note the sarcasm in my tone) then by all means, ask a stupid coors light question

PO'd. i'm already on top of it...if we ever get too big (which we hope to) and find a way to make a living off the site (working on it) then all of you who've been around will be given specific log-ins to make sure your voices will always be front and center on this site....we're working on some advertising now too...the bears can help and win again this year

It would be my dream come true to stay at home and work on the computer doing something for this site all day and make a living doing it. Glad your on top of the login issue, but its a good thing if it gets that big. I will start working on getting the word out around here and on other media sources I have access to. Not a ton of Bear fan interest around here but the ones that are seem to be die hard

Jeff,
Maybe this question been ask before.
But have tried to contact the Bears about being their offical fan blog?

Okay here is my more serious question:

Iron Mike; when you came into the league you completely changed the way the league saw the tight end position (from merely 'yet another blocker' to an offensive weapon). Subsequently the league saw changes over time where certain positions became more important. The QB position throughout the 80's as an example. And more recently, it seems that the 'showcase wide receiver' is the newest 'gotta have' dimension to the game (example TO). The question I have is: Can you forecast where the next dimension that alters the game will come from? (or in other words, what part of the today's game might be undervalued).

If he gives you a WTF look either turn and run or ask him as a follow up question: 'errr, nix that...Might you have a good Ukrainian recipe to post on our site?'.

Coach Ditka:

"Lets say the Bears are all 14 inches tall, what would be their final record at the end of the year be?"

No but in all seriousness,

I would ask what his feelings are on the way quarterbacks are being treated in regards to all the late hits/ roughing the passer penalties and their subsequent effect on the way the game is played now?

(For example, when Vince Young pump faked a pass against the G-men and the end who was grabbing him gave up thinking he would get hit with a roughing penalty and VY took it for a first down and then later the Titans won the game)

Here's something to chew on about Alex Brown

A BROWN OUT?
After trading running back Thomas Jones and considering dealing linebacker Lance Briggs, the Chicago Bears now are shopping defensive end Alex Brown. There are no shortage of suitors.

Already three teams -- the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans -- each have expressed an interest.

Kansas City needs another defensive end to help replace Jared Allen, who has been suspended for the first four games of the coming season and is playing on a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

Seattle is searching for another defensive end to pair opposite of its high-priced free-agent acquistion, Patrick Kerney.

And Tennessee needs someone to team with defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, who is used to seeing way too many double teams in Music City.

But the fact that three teams are investigating whether they appease the Bears' trade demands and Brown's contract demands shows that there is a market for the defensive end's services, and Chicago could have its choice of places to deal a defensive end that has had at least 5 1/2 sacks in each of the past four seasons. Either way, an offseason of trades could have at least one more.

I would say Da Coach will mainly talk The NFL Players Association, and players who have been injured in the past.
