Darwin Walker Joins Bears

Sunday, July 29, 2007 | Jeff

ESPN has reported that the Bills have traded "disgruntled" defensive tackle Darwin Walker to the Bears for a fifth round draft pick next year. CLICK HERE for more info.

As terribly as this offseason began, it has ended brilliantly. All draft picks in camp on time. Contract extensions for the starting corners. Lance Briggs will play a full 16. Anthony Adams and now Darwin Walker have been brought in to solidify the middle of the defensive line.

Only thing left to do is fly to San Diego and play the goddamn Chargers.

Awesome move.

The Bears now have four pretty good defensive tackles in my opinion. Dusty, Adams, Walker and obviously Harris.

And then they have Adewale, Anderson and Brown on the ends. Great D-Line.

I can't wait to see this team take the field.

Also, is anybody heading to Soldier Field on like August 5th for the scrimmage?

This is an excellent move. As Jeff said the off-season has ended about as well as it could at this point. I'd call Walker an upgrade over Tank Johnson, which only makes the decision to dump him that much smarter. While Tank had flashes and stretches of good play, he had a tendency disappear and I think was overrated.
This was really the only position that I feel you could call a hole on the team, and now it's filled. The videos and reports from camp are really encouraging. Rex has looked great, Hester has been dazzling, and Benson has been a man on a mission!! I almost feel overconfident.

Mike,
I've been watching them on Team Site. I've had an issue opening the window on the right side of page so I've clicked on "Launch CB-TV." And the videos have come up, and the squad has looked great. They had some clips of Rex throwing on the run, a ton of Hester clips ect.

Al: Thanks for the input, but still no dice...what browser are you using? I've tried both Mozilla and IE. Maybe I don't have the right version of Flash, or whatever player they are using...it looks like WMP, so I should be golden there. Oh well...I sent the web host a message. I did so awhile back when I noticed that their sort mechanism wasn't working on their roster page and they fixed it in like two days.

Does everyone realize just how much better this move made us? This defense is going to be unreal...I'm not sure they are going to give up any points all year....well, that may be a stretch, but seriously guys, I've never been more confident about a team. Haven't heard from crotch/ warts/ douchbag in awhile...PO'd you musta hit the nail on the head...the Darwin Walker trade probably put him over the edge.

In the 4 games we lost last year, including the Bowl, we sacked their QB's only 3 times. Two against the Pack on New Year's Eve and one in the Super Bowl. We didn't sack Brady in the Pats loss or Harrington in the 'Fins nightmare. In the 15 games we won (including the playoffs), we averaged just south of three sacks per. Maybe there's nothing to it or maybe pressure breaks pipes.

Living here in the Lehigh Valley (just about 20 mins from where the eagles have training camp each year) I get overloaded with Eagles news. I know they were pretty high on Darwin Walker but he did not like his role with the team and when the birds did not offer up a contract extension he wanted out. I believe this is a great trade and helps solidfy the line with a solid rotation now.

I also believe he has some ties to Chicago need to research it a bit but I think he has family or his wife's family is from there. Cannot wait for the season to start and the quest for the TITLE.

A solid addition to an already solid line. Barring major injuries we should be damn good this year. So good that we have kick ass backups if some key players get hurt. I just cant wait.

I was intrigued by the idea of Dusty and Tommie lining up together again, but Walker is defenitley an upgrade. This has got to be one of the most formidable as well as deepest defenses the league has seen in a few years.

The defense certainly has the potential to be a great one. The concern is that lost in all of the Rex bashing late last season was the fact that they wore down at the end of the year badly. They weren't the same the last half of the season or even in two out of three playoff games including the super bowl when we were gashed for 200 yards on the ground.
So the depth is an important consideration. Also keeping Mike Brown and Tommie Harris on the field are musts.

Regarding our defensive play in the 2 of three playoff performances you cite, more specifically in the super bowl, I think the potency of the offense of the Colts just outweighed the good defense. Not to mention they were on the field way to much.

Some quotes fron new Hester article on Da Site.....

"The electrifying return specialist has been the star of training camp, displaying dazzling moves and explosiveness while working with a Bears offense that suddenly boasts an array of exciting big-play threats."

"Hester has caught just about every pass thrown in his direction..."

"In another workout, the dynamic playmaker caught a quick pass just over the line of scrimmage and proceeded to leave two Pro Bowl defenders in his wake, bursting past cornerback Nathan Vasher before racing by safety Mike Brown. "

Someone hand me a kleenex so I can wipe the drool off my face. I love this team.

Well it's a chicken or the egg argument. But I would say there was no comparison between the Bear's D early in the year and the one that finished the season. I would also say that the losses of Brown and Harris were largely responsible for that. That is why staying healthy and developing depth are crucial tasks for this camp.
In other news, it appears that a qb controversy is building. Only it's between Griese and Orton for the #2 spot. That could get interesting.......

July 31, 2007

#29 Pissed off said . . .

To be honest, I cant beleive Orton is even in competition with Greise. I think Orton sucks, yes a Bear that sucks. Maybe he's worked real hard the past two offseasons and now he's better but comparing how he played as a rookie vs. what we've seen from Greise, its not a competition. Good for Kyle. Whatever happened to Chris Leak, did he ever make it to camp??

The Walker acquisition was awesome, no question, best move I've seen them make in a while. Our D should be even better this year- a crazy thought.

Please riff on this thought- I hear so much crap about the AFC being better, and the AFC West (we play them this year) being much stronger than our division.

Predictions are that we go 2-2, or 1-3 against the AFC West. Crazy talk.
