#4 Windy City Packer Fan said . . .oh and i just finished reading the last of the responses to the previous post, WindyCityPackerFan, its good football fans like you which make me appreciate the fun trash talk and interesting football conversations. While I dont like your team and i might disagree with some of what you say, I think we could have been able to get along if we ever met in real life.

I will hold my Pabst high and wish you all the best for the 2007 football season.
While we may stand on opposite sides of the fence, we are all part of the great neighborhood that is the National Football League. To take from Under Armour, 'we must protect this house.' The NFL is the greatest sporting league ever. We get our business done in 1/10th the amount of games it takes in baseball. Getting into the playoffs means something, unlike the hardwood or ice rink leagues. More importantly, each game is a ritual. A party. A celebration beginning in parking lots with the respective stadiums as a backdrop. Culinary delights such as a smorgasboard of meats (no tofu on the grill please) are seared over hot coals whilst cold malt beverages are consumed by all with not a care in the world (except whether or not you may spend the 3rd quarter in the John puking).
Alas, I give you the 2007 NFL season. So go forth and cheer for your favorite team and don't forget to tip your waitresses. We will be here through February.
Here endeth the sermon.

#6 ron - not a rex hater said . . .For starters, I like Windy City too, he's not the kind of Packer fan or blogger I have an issue with. But screw the Packers, I'm not talking about Packers today, I'm talking about the Bears and the beginning of a Superbowl season. It always seems there's strangely not much to be said while we wait for kickoff. We've said it all already. This is my favorite day every year. Bear Down.

#8 Nicole is miserable in this blue city said . . .There are those that watch the game and follow the ball, know who made the great catch, run, throw or hit. Then there are those that recognize the success or failure of the play due to the fact that the receiver adjusted his route by recognizing a zone, man or blitz coverage.

No, it's not an attempt to deify Favre; just read it as an insight into the quarterback position. No wonder Ryan Leaf couldn't make it....

I concur with the NFL sentiments- has anyone seen the Bob Costas interview with Ditka and other Hall of Famers? Talking about their pension and how little they get each month compared to the players of current years. It's chilling.September 9, 2007
#10 Some Devil said . . .It must be opening day...
last night I couldn't sleep, I woke up every couple hours dreaming of big plays. I woke up once, startled, at 3 am thinking I slept through the game...alas 12 hours to go. We're about 5 hours away now. I've got on my B-Twice Jersey, orange shorts, navy blue bears boonie...it got some looks at the Perkins this morning, to which I responded, MF'ing Bears.

#20 Shak said . . .I'm not sure where to start...Chargers coaching made adjustments to figure out how to score on our D...I guess I would liked to have seen something to throw off the Chargers D, anyone agree? Just venting.

#21 Mike said . . .Bears cant do anything anything differently. They think they can run the same play 3-4 -5 -6 times and at still beleive its a matter of time when the play will work for them.

#22 shak said . . .God, this is rough. I'm sorry to anyone who likes Benson, but he looks bad. He looks more like a fullback than a running back. No cut, no juke, no spin, nothing to change direction whatsoever. He just keeps running in a straight line. Grossman...what is there to say. He looks mediocre. Not terrible, just average. The interception looked to be about 50-50 blamewise; Berrien didn't look over his shoulder until the ball had almost hit the safety. The play-calling has been so vanilla that the Eagles fan I was eating lunch with started calling the plays before the snap.
God Benson has no moves. We traded the wrong back.

#23 I miss walter payton... said . . .I agree. Benson can only run straight, he is not lighting fast, so he really can't go the horizontal and then cut in + he doesnt have a brain to play football. The coaches also shoudl have realized that Cedric Benson can't run against teams with heavy inside presence, which most playoffs teams are. So even if we make it to the playoffs he is goign to be usless. We should trade him as soon as possible and try and get a RB who can atleast juke.
September 9, 2007
Can we have a Benson-based discussion? I've never seen anything special in this guy, but I know some of you have. I'm not asking for people to justify his play today, I just want to understand the rationale behind letting Jones go and making him our second most important offense player.
