Well it's week two and I already need a rebound week for my picks column after a dismal 7-9 opening week. Because I'm so shitty at this, I'm opening it up to you this week as well. Here's how it works:
1. You pick the score of the Chicago Bears/Kansas City Chiefs game in the comments section.
2. Closest score gets to pick each game next week and split the Friday column with me.
3. Under your score prediction, you must write a paragraph analyzing the game. This will serve as the tiebreaker.
On to the picks.
YOUR 2007 CHICAGO BEARS -12.5 OVER KANSAS CITY
Why do I like the Chicago Bears this week?
1. Because I always like the Chicago Bears.
2. The Bears defense is going to play an inspired game, holding down LJ the way they held down LT. Once this game gets put in the hands of Damon Huard, the Bears will run away with it. I'd like to add that I still don't understand how a professional football franchise with the legacy of KC finds themselves with Damon Huard starting at the most important position. What did Trent Green do that was so wrong?
3. Rex Grossman. 19-24. 248 yard. 3 touchdowns. 0 INT. Nothing wrong with his performance Sunday.
HOUSTON +6.5 OVER CAROLINA.
CINCINNATI -6.5 OVER CLEVELAND.
ATLANTA +10.5 OVER JACKSONVILLE.
NEW YORK GIANTS PK OVER GREEN BAY.
BUFFALO +9.5 OVER PITTSBURGH.
ST. LOUIS -2.5 OVER SAN FRANCISCO.
NEW ORLEANS -3.5 OVER TAMPA BAY.
INDIANAPOLIS -6.5 OVER TENNESSEE.
SEATTLE -2.5 OVER ARIZONA.
MINNESOTA +2.5 OVER DETROIT.
MIAMI +3.5 OVER DALLAS.
OAKLAND +9.5 OVER DENVER.
NEW ENGLAND -3.5 OVER SAN DIEGO.
WASHINGTON +6.5 OVER PHILADELPHIA.

Bears 38
Cheifs 6 - The Bears will dominate on offense, Rex will throw for 285 yards with 3 TDs and no INTs. Ced will rush for 110 yards and 2 TDs. Wolfe will finally see some action and he'll be impressive against a Cheifs D that will be tired and run down. We will run 3 offensive plays where Hester actually gets the ball and he'll make some people miss. He will also be returning punts AND kicks except maybe late in the game when we are up big. The D will be good, they will rattle Huard and Croyle will come in at some point due to injury or ineffectiveness. LJ rushes for less than 100 yards. By the way I just broke down the game before I read jeff's breaking it down, I'm not trying to copy your Rex stats.NO over TB

Yeah I said it, shut out. The Bears will have their way with an anemic chiefs offense by focusing on LJ, pressuring Huard and later Croyle and maybe Steve DeBerg is he gets in there somehow and force turnovers early and often. I predict 3+ turnovers, two+ picks and one fumble recovery. I will go out and say the D returns on of these for 6. The offense will be put on a short field all day and will convert 4 for TD's and two for field goals. The touchdowns will be two through the air, one to B-Twice on a big play and one on a goal line type play to a TE or slot guy. The rushing TD's will go to cedric and adrian each.
I have NO, NYG, PIT, INDY, CIN, JAC, CAR, SF, SEA, DAL, MIN, BAL, DEN, SD, & PHI winning.

#4 jeff said . . .Bears 27 to chiefs 6.
The Bears will keep the KC offense sputtering, but an unlucky fumble/pick/bounce off someone's back will give the Chiefs good field position. They will be pounded backwards on the drive and kick a field goal.
Rexy will do alright, but it won't be for over 300 yards in the air. Look for Benson to go into heavy rotation, even in the first half.

LJ has more receiving yards than rushing yds. Bob Babich draws a flag for coming onto the field to participate in a celebration when an Anderson sack removes Huard's head.

Bears 41 Paper Chefs 3
Not good enough/don't have the attention span to pick the others. But it does raise the question - looks like some are picking point spreads and others straight up winners? Is that happening?
No big breakdown on the game either, just Bears rock and game is well in hand by half time. But not enough so they just shut it down (thus blowing my pick), so RT keeps the game plan open and defense adds one score and one gimme (set up in the red zone). Now I have to do math and see how 41 points relates to touchdowns - I guess that's 5 TDs and 2 field goals. Boy that's a lot of scoring when you look at it that way. Still not changing my pick though, just like the sound of that number.
Cedric Benson makes all FWFs regret doubting him, except towards the end of the game when by mistake he goes and sits on the Chiefs bench. Bedlam ensues.

My picks are all winners. I dont have a bookie and I dont live near Vegas so I its hard for me to bet spreads, I could absolutely do it but I dont have the ability to gamble where I'm at. Whats FWFs?

#26 Don K. Balls said . . .38-0
Our defense gives us good field position all day. We get off to a good start with two 2 TDs on first two possessions. One TD by Grossman to Moose (if Olsen plays it goes to him) and one TD by Benson.
KC holds onto the ball for awhile meeking out a few first downs after some 3rd and shorts, but Huard screws it up later in the drive and throws a pick, so they hold onto the ball most of second quarter but we get it back, drive down and kick a FG before half 17-0.
Second half we get good field position, try to run all over them and succeed. 3 more TDs, 2 by Benson and one by AP.

Chiefs 14I suspect this game will be a nail biter down to the wire. I know the Chiefs aren't very good, but I do not have faith in Rex Grossman or Cedric Benson. And I worry about our defense covering Tony Gonzalez while also stopping Larry Johnson for four quarters.

#34 Al in WI said . . .27-10 Bears win.
Not so sure it will be the huge blow out that everyone seems to be predicting, although, I hope it is. Still, not having Brad to do the punting may change play calling in some spots depending on where the Bears have the ball. I got a feeling we will move the ball well, but not always finish off drives. Defense will play well and create a couple turnovers. More than anything, I hope to see some consistency on offense heading into next weeks showdown with the Cowboys.
Should be fun tomorrow. Night game will be awesome too...Pats and Chargers. Maybe Belichick will send someone out to take out LT's knees or something...would ya put it past him at this point?
Enjoy the weekend all.
