For what it’s worth, the defense has played better this year than last. However, the promises from Lovie and Ron Turner regarding a new and exciting offense utilizing myriad weapons has thus far been talk of unicorns and leprechauns. Cedric Benson has not performed up to his billing, the offensive line has been leaking like a sieve, and receivers are dropping the passes Grossman can get there. B-Twice seems to be the only reliable thing on our offense…oh wait, three drops.
Injuries…with Dusty and Mike Brown out for the year, Briggs goes down, as does Vasher and Ruben Brown during the game. It seems that Rusty Jones can’t prevent everything, and we have been struggle-ing with the injury bug.
Rex Grossman – heh, well, let the talk begin. I think that Rex failed the audition for his job tonight, and Lovie won’t sleep much tonight until he decides the Brian Griese era will begin with 3 straight divisional games. I was a defender of Rex all year, proclaiming Honolulu was in his future…I’m not sure they’d even put his name on the ballot right now. So, with my first lead in post, in the wake of a disgusting performance by the entire offense, I am hanging up my keys to the Rex bandwagon and am going to start scouring the collegiate ranks and Eagles blog sites for Mcnabb trade rumors because I’m sure they weren’t satisfied with 350+ & 4 TD.

And then the Bears of '07 showed up. Cedric the Entertainer fumbles again. Bears D holds. And then Rex the 5'10 physical and mental midget throws into triple coverage for another runback. For a second I thought we were in Minnesota, or Arizona, or Miami or...ah forget it.
This offense is seriously numbingly depressing. And looking at the near future (aka Brian Griese on the sideline) evokes near weeping.

Did anyone else see the similarities between this game and the Chargers game..our defense was outstanding in the first half- held them to 3 points, our offense drives down the field gets to within the 3 yard line and our piss-poor coordinator calls two runs plays and a worthless grossman throw out the back of the endzone...the same thing happened in San Diego...OUR offense cannot afford to come up with 3 points on that drive- forget the rest of the game I knew it was over at that point- the rest of the game just proved my point.
I was screaming at the screen to go for it on 4th and two...even if they miss we had them pinned down there...we had them on the run...we had the momentum, we were at home..everything hinged on that attack, but it was all lost on that play.
What does Dallas do when its 4th and 4 on our 35 yard line (after that stupid TO we called)...THEY GO FOR IT...they had BALLS..tony romo was pumped and confident..that is what it takes to win.
Also- with all the injuries on defense, at this rate our entire defensive practice squad will be seeing action...FUCK THIS BULLSHIT...FUCK that coward ass softy Benson...FUCK grossman...Fuck Ron Turner...the only one with Balls on this team is Urlacher...what a waste- I'd ask for a trade if I was him.

We had a long talk, and I explained that we can't control the Bears, it's not our fault that they embarrassed theemselves on national TV, and that he just needed to tell his friends, congratulations, the Cowboys were the better team and deserved to win, and the Bears have lots of problems.
The pessimists on this board had it right about the offense - old and now bad oline, 4th pick fumbler at running back, and less than ready for prime time receivers. Plus a quarterback that you'd have to be an absolute fool to continue to support - I don't care whether our wide receivers were dropping balls, there is such an obvious difference between these two quarterbacks who otherwise bear lots of similarities in age, number of games played, etc.
It doesn't matter that Griese isn't the answer, we'll strap up any Not Rex long enough to show they can't do it, which may be pretty quick, then when we burn through them, start looking at the waiver wires or planning your next draft pick.
What a waste. What a freaking waste. Will we even have a D tomorrow to lament wasting them this season? Also, Devin did you have to pick tonight to have your worst game as a pro?
Lovie, you got your long term contract - it's time to start earning your money, you've got a real mess on your hands. Let's see if you can coach your way out of it. We'll be watching.

At this rate, the Bears will be lucky to end up 8-8 by seasons end. I have been a staunch supporter of Rex for a long time, but that era has come to an end. He shows absolutely no fire and his confidence level is dismal. I've always wondered why it is that every quarterback in every game I watch on TV when not on the field, they're on the phone, they're looking at pictures of opposing defenses, they're communicating with their receivers, they're busy on the sidelines. Watch Manning sometime when he is on the sideline, he's doing all of the above and then some. Then watch Rex wondering around, looking at the time, looking for a friend in the stands. He is as un-pumped as they come. If you watch the seasoned quarterbacks on the sideline, and then watch Rex, you'll soon understand what I'm talking about. He's a failure in the making.September 24, 2007
#17 Bill said . . .First of all, to address the racist post above, Grossman is not Jewish, and even if he was, who cares??? If your support of players boils down to their race and your (racist) preferences, I feel very sorry for you.
Having said that, Rex Grossman is a piece of shit QB. He can't seem to read defenses:
"The guys on the other side of the ball figured out last year that he determines his throw before the play,'' (Dan Hampton)
He's completely unable to deal with a pass rush:
"That's the difference between Romo and Grossman. A rusher comes free on Grossman and the play's over" (John Madden, paraphrasing)
His QB rating is at or next to the bottom of starting QBs. He throws crushing interceptions. Many announcers have speculated that he's too short to see over the line during plays. He's got a losing record this year. In short, he sucks. That won't matter to the Rex-lovers. Nothing's really bad enough for them. He could throw 5 picks and they'd focus on the 15 yard out pass he completed in the first quarter. Oh well.
Also, we could be screwed on D. Briggs, Vasher and Harris all go out with serious injuries. We're screwed on O, because in addition to the other problems, our running game was horrible, even against a supposedly banged up Dallas defense. Pretty much nothing good to take away from this game. Even the inevitable QB switch (there is NO WAY Lovie can stick with Wrex anymore) won't make much of a difference if the already weakened D gets hit with some major injuries.
Almost feels like 2004 all over again...does anyone out there think we actually could have a shot at McNabb?
September 24, 2007
#18 Nate... said . . .Well, Romo and the Cowboys put an end to our delusional thinking. Romo is a LEADER; Rex is not. Romo can buy time and make plays; Rex runs backwards and into sacks and throws INTs.
OBVIOUSLY they have to make a change. How can Lovie keep the team if he doesn't?
STILL - the receivers are as bad as Rex (except our TEs - who'd of thought that??)
And the line is too old - they get fooled on stunts too easier.
Of course, we don't have a RB who can pass block either.
And Achuletta showed why Washingto benched him.
LOVIE go tthe big contract and a lot of us thought maybe he wasn't a good enough coach. Now he gets to show if he wass worth it.
Is it Turner's play calling or does he feel tied down by Rex? It's clear he can't call a slant, an in, or a screen because Rex can't thrwo them. . Kind of limits things.
And why is Babich on the sideline when every other D-C is in the booth? Still - the D just got tired (and beat up) and tired from pass rushing so much.
The winow of opportunity is now closed.
Congrats to the Cowboys - Romo is for real; their special teams outplayed ours except for the blocked FG, took Hester out; and Garrett is a great O-C.
(Spiking it on 3rd down was reason enough to bench him for lack of leadership. Think Rivera might be laughing about the mental midget flap?)September 24, 2007
#19 JL said . . .I've read this blog for awhile, but am not one for posting... however, after tonight, that has changed.
I, like a lot of optimists, have been a staunch Grossman supporter. Throughout the Good Rex/Bad Rex games last season, and even after the SB, I was a supporter. After tonight, that has changed. What makes it worse, is that I no longer believe in Lovie. Grossman's problems run deeper than any of us are willing to admit, or even could comprehend. Whether its physical, mental, coaching, play calling... he isn't going to take us anywhere. We got lucky with a gravy schedule and a weak division last year. That has changed this year and look where we are.
This is tough to take on so many levels. I thought Rex would come through this season. I guess I was wrong.
At least I still have the Cubs this year... which suffice to say is not what I'd be expecting to say at this point in the football season. Go Cubs!

#20 JB said . . .As much as I hate John Madden he said one thing tonight that pretty much sums it up..."Rex Grossman needs near perfect pass protection to be successful." Grossman makes Romo look like Vince Young. Somehow this was lost on our management this past offseason as was Benson's inability to block and the dynamism that Thomas Jones brought to this offense. We are paying a severe price now and heading towards a 10-6 at best. On the schedule ahead only Oakland looks "easy."

2. Rex sucked more than anyone else tonight
3. Cowboys adapted to our game at the half and Ron Turner ... well ... decided to do the same thing. I'm shocked
4. What happened to Rusty Jones? I thought he was the genius who injury-proofed our team every year. Is everyone on the beef stick diet?
5. We're deep, but we're not this deep
6. I always defend the D when they they break down after being on the field all game, but it happened too early tonight.
7. Are we going to have to start a Good Devin/Bad Devin debate?
8. Totally off topic but did anyone else see Bob Babich when they zoomed on him for like 2 minutes. He wasn't excited and had a really scary "crazy eyes" face the whole time. This guyn is my hero.

Stock up some o-line guys with lower picks, and find an offensive coordinator with some guts, and maybe we won't have totally wasted Urlacher's career. It's not too late to get him the ring he deserves, but it's not going to happen with the team as it is.

Arizona did it today with leinart and they almost one with warner. What is wrong with that. Maybe he is not the answer but this is not working we need a change at least for a game.

#29 Sody said . . .Wow. So many things wrong with this game it's not even funny. Turnovers, injuries, missed opportunities basically determined the outcome of this one. I hope the injuries (Briggs, Vasher, Harris) aren't serious and these offensive problems are ironed out by Lovie before it's too late. (PLAYOFFS!?)
This team has so much potential to click on all cylinders, but where does potential take you without simple execution?
It would be easy to jump off a Bears bridge right now, but real fans (and certainly the players) understand the opportunity to reach the Super Bowl is still there. Sure tonight was depressing in pretty much every aspect of the game (even Hester, jeez) but this team has been through adversity before (seems like every year) and they will continue to put their faith in Rex. Honestly, they don't have any other choice. "Rex Grossman is our quarterback" and the best quarterback the Chicago Bears have.
That may not be easy to take after a game like this one, but it's the reality that fans and players must accept. It's time to forget about this game and rally around our QB whether we like it our not. Hard pill to swallow? Too fucking bad. Time to suck it up Bears fans.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over - yet expecting different results.

This will buy Angelo time to make a deal for Kurt Warner. We need an effective decision maker who can put the ball in play anywhere on the football field. Brain Trust is starting to look a little unTrustworthy. Biggest moves made/not made in the off-season:
1) Not bringing in competition at QB position to challenge Rex - it seems obvious that you have no faith in your backups, why are they still there?
2) Letting TJ go / not bringing in a quality veteran RB in case Benson has problems. And Benson has problems.
3) Deciding that your 10 year old American car with 220,000 can limp along for one more year. Bad decision, it's leaking oil like crazy and there on ominous knocking sound coming from the transmission. (talking about the o-line here).
4) Wasting a 3rd round pick on Garrett Wolfe. Success with Hester made you think you can forget about basic nutrition and go for expensive desserts.
5) Don't know why I left this so far down on the list, but not replacing your offensive coordinator. Young Jason Garrett looked really good last night (although it now is clear he had quite a few more weapons at his disposal - if you got a hand that holds Romo, Jason Witten and TO you're looking pretty good).
That's all, they still made a lot of good moves. I'm not ready to say Archuleta's a bust, although he's clearly no savior. Greg Olsen, if he could get some balls thrown to him, is ready to make an impact. Darwin Walker, you're good. We'll see how good when you become the #1 inside threat lined up to Anthony Adams or Israel Idonije.

Here at DaBearsBlog, you are free to kill us or the Bears as you so wish. You are not free, however, to be an asshole. So if you spew racism or ill-meaning foul language (cursing about football is just fine) or anything of that ilk, your comments ain't gonna last long, jerk.
