We Own The Pack

Monday, October 8, 2007 | Pissed Off

It's a fact ladies and gentlemen, when we head up to "Soldier Field North" we win. Very happy to see the trend continue for at least another year.

I am also happy about several other things I saw from the team. I don't know if I will be able to cover them all but I'm sure as hell going to try. The first person I would like to thank is Peanut Tillman. With his two forced fumbles this man saved us from two scoring drives that at the time may have made the game seem out of reach. Lets also not forget the fact the we finally got Greg Olsen involved in a big way, one of the things Lovie had stressed we needed to do to win games. Benson did not fumble, no sir, not today. Though he had a horrible yards per carry average he was able to get the amount of carries he needed to be effective and allow this offense to control the clock. And even Brian Griese looked competent, a feat that he struggled with last week. His play was by no means stellar but he got the job done and made plays when he needed to.

What we have now is momentum. Momentum that should carry us for the next few weeks into the bye week and show that we are still a contender is this mediocre NFC. There are just so many things to be thankful for and so many bright areas for the time being that will allow us to sleep better at night. We have plenty of concerns that hopefully will work themselves out as the season progresses but right now, for tonight, the positive progress we have made in various areas far outweights the issues that plague this team. ENJOY IT!

The Good:

1. We won. That's the bottom line--no argument. Overall, it was definitely a good night--the right people did enough of the right things at the right time.

2. As pissed off mentioned, Olsen got into the game and had a couple of huge catches. We needed that so, so, so much.

3. Hester is starting to get more touches on offense, and there's no way that can be anything but good.

4. Defense is getting healthy and coming back to form (side note--anyone have an injury report on Darwin Walker?)

The Bad

1. Benson. Yes, he made some big runs at crucial moments, but all in all, that was a bad game for him. His future as a Bear is getting more and more questionable every day.

2. Danieal Manning--some bad blown coverages and some costly bad tackles. We need Nate Vasher back ASAP.

The Ugly

The Offensive Line. I don't know what happened to these guys between this season and last, but they can't pass block, they can't run block, and the only reason I'm even still giving Benson a chance is because it seems impossible for him to do a good job with the way the line has performed. Either they step it up or this game is going on a short, short list of highlights for this season. No blocking, no playoffs, period.

As a former Badger, now living in the great NW, I’ve always had a difficult time when the Packers beat the Bears. By way of background, I have always been a Bear fan in Packer territory. Games like this make my live easy as I still have family and friends in Wisconsin.

Great game Chicago!!!

Packer fans are ignorant - my son and his friend had shit thrown at him the entire game. A bunch of uneducatrd classless losers. They honestly have nothing to do up there but drink and cheer the Packers. Really -he's been going to games at Soldier Field since he was 10 and he NEVER saw ANYTHING like the treatment he and friends got in GB. Seriously, he said they were treated like an enemy in a war zone. Nothing like the friendly rivalry atmosphere I always see in Chicago.

But he got the last laugh. And besides that - they have to continue to live in GB.

I am very happy. The Packers are a morage - the Bears exposed that. McCarthy SUCKS as a coach. What HORSEHIT challeges! Hey - challenge theSPOT - not whether or not it's a first down. He not only gave up a time out, but lost his last challenge. Whaty an IDIOT!

Gift wrapped? Silver platter? Protect the DAMN BALL! I predict that loser of a WR will have at LEAST 5 more fumbles this year now that Tillmam has shown he can't hold on.

Yeah - good job McCarthy. You actually run a little so you keep with it while you have one of the best passers in history. DUMB play calling. LOVED IT!

Did they really think the Bears were BAD?? Apparently they listented to their fans instead of game planning.

Sure - kick away from Hester. We'll take it at the 40 every time. Have to go back and see how many points that got us. At least 3, probably 7.

Final margin - 7.

Great game Devin! Without even returning anything!

I will LOVE to watch EVERY Packer loss this year. They are NOTHING! What a bunch of crap. Can's beat a 1-3 team IN THEIR OWN STADIUM!!

OK - time for bed. I'm off work tomorrow. BEST GAME OF THE YEAR!!

As much as I would like to criticize Ron Turner for another bad game of play calling (it was average at best), the go-ahead touchdown to Clark was one of the best calls I've seen in any game in a while. I think that myself and 90% of everyone watching that game expected to see CB up the middle. Maybe he's been setting us up all year waiting for that opportunity???

HEY HEY HEY GO BEARS, I dont care too much about stats I do love the WIN.

Devin scared them into giving us good field position on their own. I should mention nice blocking carrying, and getting open in the receiver's position i mean wide open.

Peanut Tillman is the hero and like always a top priority corner.

Nice catch Brian Urlacher.

That other Brian is shaking off that rust pretty well.

Clark, Olsen thanks for the receptions.

And shot out to all the linemen for being of awesome value and sometimes forgotten.

Lastly Cedric, Hell a TD and no drops is one heck of a turnaround i'll change my name if good things like this plus some more yardage occurs.

Church bells should be ringing today. Bonfires and illuminations ought to mark this day! Had we not 'beat this guy' we all know what would have happened: volcanos, tsunamis, hurricanes, flying stinging insects, the ocean turning into blood - you know, typical Book of Revelations death and destruction stuff.

We not only beat the Pack but we restored the natural order of the world and fix the wobble that was in the earth axis. There is a rainbow over the earth and the birds now chip for joy. If you cup your ear and listen, you'll hear the distant sound of children singing. People are politely driving to work and waving at each other. Food taste better. The air is cleaner. Lambs and deer are laying down with the lions at Lincoln Park.

Damn I am happy.

Things I'm thankful for today:

I'm thankful that Farve didn't retire last year.

I'm thankful that I don't have to hear Madden/Michaels talk about Farve not retiring.

I'm thankful it's a beautiful Monday morning, even here in Indy. GO BEARS :)

Midway: I got out of my car this morning at work and there was an ear piercing sound. At first, I thought it was a bunch of cicadas.

I turned around and the field across from my office was covered entirely with birds. The whole field looked like a black sea of fluff. All of them were chirping and singing. I can hear them still from inside... Glorious!

I think that Madden actually likes the Bears...it's just that lately they've been giving him nothing to expound on. He's always going on about how Wally P is the best "football player" he's ever seen. I really couldn't listen to them rave about their man-crush on BF all night, so I listened to the WBBM feed. Great second half by the boys, gives them momentum through the bye week hopefully.

Simply put the team that wins the turnover battle usually wins the game. Congrats on the +4 T/O margin by the Bears last night.

Need a W in the worst way now next week coupled with a Det/GB loss and we are back in this thing. Bear Down!

Big T, I think the TD play to Dez was actually going to be a screen to the RB, they showed the replay of Griese looking for that 1st and then noticing that Dez was wide open so he went that route. It was a great play I'm just saying I think Griese made that one happen more than Turner.

I'm going to withhold comment for now about Griese, one decent game does not a QB make. He will start next week and thats fine with me. The main thing that gets me is that I still think Rex was pulled to early, thats all. I also just miss knowing the big play ability when Rex is out there. Griese did try to go downfield but that was horrible, we all saw it. So was his INT pass, just lobbed up there. He's a good dink and dunk guy but I think thats it. Is that enough for this team?....time will tell.

Big big win...I actually fell asleep happy for the first time this football season. This doesn't bring us all the way back, but it's a big first step. Jeff, I think I may have won the price is right showcase showdown on prediction...26-20 was my call...closest to the actual score without going over.

There was one crowd shot last night of a packer fan holding up a sign that said "My girlfriend has one major flaw", and it's this hot Bears fan chick...and I thought to myself, yeah, she's got a douche bag packer fan for a boyfriend.

Thank you peanut for keeping us in the game, thank you packer special teams for being scared of DH, and most of all, thanks to the old brett for the gift wrapped INT to #54. On to the purple people.

PO'd: I think that deep incomplete pass to Berrian was illegal contact and it slowed him up a bit. It was still overthrown, but not by the amount it seemed. The defender made a decent play (hiding the contact to slow up Berrian). I believe he was being covered by Charles Woodson...

Not to mention Grossman's deep passes this year were anything but on target. I recall three picks at least and some other poorly thrown balls that could have been picked if defenders turned their heads around. Griese completes 60% percent of his passes on a regular basis, and with the way Turner is calling games that is the only way we'll win.

What a game... such a contrast from half to half.

Olsen looked like a dream, Clark looked like a younger man, and Griese was cool, calm and collected. Lance was everywhere, and Urlacher finally showed up (where has he been hiding anyway?).

If only PackisBack could here to enjoy it with us... HA !!

PO: I agree with you that Turner's play call on Dez's TD was more BG than Turner. But you gotta hand it to Turner for calling the TD pass to Olson on the first play after Urlacher's interception. That was the perfect call to make when your opponent is unbalanced. And good catch by Olson for using his height and size to his advantage. I'm not sure his speed is as much of an advantage as advertised, but he has that ball-hawking talent that may be uncoachable. And good call by the official for calling it a push-out on the side of the endzone, because Olson would have clearly landed well inbounds had he not been pushed.

Well Bear fans, is this Monday morning great or what? THIS Monday morning MORE than makes up for the last two Monday mornings.

THE TURNAROUND HAS BEGUN.

Man, where to start? First kudos goes out to Ron Turner, even though I was still screaming at him during the game. But his madness had method, in continuing to allow Ced "Canton or Bust" Benson to mash for his 2 yards, 1 yard, 3 yards, this is what allowed the play action to work. Now I happen to believe that you don't have to go through THAT much misery for play action to work, but still...it worked, and at the most important times. Kudos to you, RT, for finally going down to the basement and breaking out the fine wine, no time like the present, right? Hester and Olsen and Bradley, thank you thank you thank you.

Here's to Peanut, MVP of the game. Was that second right body punch a thing of beauty or was it not? The experiment of using Danieal Manning at CB was not so good, we're lucky to have survived that. I was screaming for Ricky Manning Jr., he has experience and was quite good for the Panthers. That change WILL be made if we have to go without Vash again.

Brian U., thanks for showing up in the second half, your first half was one to erase, never to speak of again. Lance Briggs, can we PLEASE have a little home town discount, YOU'VE GOT TO STAY! If you leave, we're going to stalk your ass worse than Glenn Close. I'm talking bunnies on a stove! You don't want that, do you?

Wasn't it strange how Green Bay and the great Brett Favre turned into scared little children in the second half? It was like they had seen a ghost, that wasn't a ghost, it was the Chicago Bears trampling over the grave of your 2007 season hopes. Super Bowl for you? HA! NO SUPE FOR YOU! You're not even going to win the division! You won't! Just wait and see!

Kudos to the incomparable Devin Hester, who once again changed the game just by suiting up and walking out onto the field, again and again and again. And kudos too to the other half of our very special Special Teams, who did an awesome job on coverage pretty much all day save one, and that one the soon-to-be repeat Pro Bowler Brendan Ayanbejo redeemed his one muff by running back and punching it out.

Finally, max kudos to our quarterback for the rest of this season, at least, Brian "I'm Just Competent, That's All" Griese. A very nice job overall - maybe not stellar, as PO'd generously points out, but wholly and utterly competent. THAT'S what we were looking for.

It is my strongly held opinion that the play of this team in the second half of this game is going to be the team we see from here on out. Competent and continually improving offense, defense that doesn't wilt in the second half and now remembers how to create turnovers, and more of the speciallest Special Teams on the planet. WINS and WINS and WINS and WINS. Vikings, Eagles, Lions, Raiders - watch yer asses - a monster has awoken in Chicago.

Sorry for the long post, folks, I just couldn't stop. WHAT A GREAT DAY! THANK YOU CHICAGO BEARS!!!!!

It seems like we have a recipe for success:

1) Hester gives us good field position by either returning it or intimidating the other team into kicking it out of bounds

2) Pound the ball

3) play action after pounding the ball

4) play good D and get some turnovers

5) Lovie actually ripping the team a new one when needed

I don't envision any blowouts, but I'm feeling much better today than the last two weeks.
