DaBearsBlog shall not hibernate for the winter. We are alive. We are well. Goddamnit...we're still in this thing. I'm not going to write an elaborate post tonight. It isn't my column. Your beloved Pissed Off owns tonight's space but due to technical difficulties will be forced to write my column tomorrow. But I will say the following...
If you'd like to kick to Devin Hester...
If you want to kick to Devin Hester...
If you think you can beat Devin Hester...
Be my guest.

#5 Midway Monster said . . .Absolutely Jeff.
Archuletta and Miller's back-ups (McGowan and St. Clair respectively) couldn't do any worse. Sad but true. So who is a bigger liability?
Great comeback in spite of these players.
I won't be talkin' playoffs until this team can win 2 in a row. Next week NY comes into town. Sure Eli & Co. were roughed up by Minneapolis today, but next week won't be easy. Get to work Bears, you'll need it for the biggest game of the season.

#6 jeff said . . .Gentlemen, I DO believe we are witnessing the best player on the Bears since the Kansas Comet. Hester rocks. Lets just soak it all in, like a fine cigar, and enjoy! Someone ought to go snag his stats vs Sayers because this guys is HOF bound.
Next up: The Gothams at home and perhps another 108 yard (missed FG) return like last years MNF game!

#12 Jakub said . . .That was awesome. How about the throw and catch to tie the game? Amazing.
And for Hester I have no words.
I hope this team gets it after this. This is it. A defining moment in our season. A chance to get to .500, overall and at home. A chance to make a statement that we are not dead yet. Oh, and please, please, kick to Devin Hester.

#13 Green Lantern said . . .Oh, and AA sucks. He does not belong on this team. Make a decision and stick somebody, other than yourself.

#14 rambo in texas said . . .i'm still living in NYC (sadly), and today made me remember my consecutive trips to the meadowlands last November and how fun a team can be when things work....well....today only the special teams worked but still, very fun.
let's have the Offense and Defense both show up next week and beat the Giants to finally get back the .500 mark, then we can talk.

#15 Another NY Bears fan said . . .Hey, Ive been in texas for over 20 years now, I am still a BEARS fan. I will always cheer and yell at the set when they are playing because they are my team! I will be pulling for the cowgirls to beat greenbay!

#17 Max said . . .If you are going to blame the coaches for when things go poorly, you have to also give them credit for when things work out.
Lovie's defense did barely enough to keep the win alive for the offense, and Turner came through with great play calls at the end of regulation and in overtime when it mattered most. Still a few questionable calls in my mind, but overall a solid performance.
Dave Toub also came through with a great play call which allowed Peanut to make a play to change the game. Huge momentum shift.
All I'm saying is if you're gonna critcize a guy for his mistakes, it's only fair to give credit where credit is due.

#18 Z said . . .1) A.P. !!! CAN I GET AN AMEN?? the man ran hard, not outstanding numbers, but it just seemed like he ran with some passion and kept the legs turning.
2) can we please, PLEASE talk about our receivers. first, they all drop passes that hit them right in the hands. Moose, Olsen, Rashied, B Squared. . . . it was sad, but with that said, Bernard Berrian, what a fucking catch, in the end zone, on fourth down. INSANE.
3) Our defense is bad. I mean on one of the Broncos scoring drives, they did the same 2 plays the whole time and once, once did our defensive ends keep containment. It was so maddening.
4) Hester isnt human. . . plain and simple
5) Maynard had a terrible game
6) Rexy wasnt that sexy until the last quarter. . . but damn it if he didnt shine at the end of regulation. (and a very pretty pass to Des in overtime)
7) Fred Miller is so useless . . . i mean its to the point where he might have surpassed AA as the Bear i wanna strangle the most.
8)God this team fucks with me so much. . . and i keep coming back for more

#19 some.devil said . . .Ok, so a win by 3 with heart attacks for everyone not by 1. My bad.
(The Good)
Hester is beyond words. Best ever at returns. We need to sign him to an extension after the season. D held it together when it mattered most (Huge goal line stands) and O came through at the end.
(The Bad)
We need to catch the ball and hold onto the ball.
(And The Ugly)
Yes Miller and AA should be benched immediately. Sucks I thought Washington was just using him incorrectly and Lovie could bring him back.
Oh well if all that has to happen for us to win, fine. We of course will take it. Wow miracle playoff game won. Next playoff round. NY Giants.
Go Bears!!!

Go bears!
ok Cedric comes to play and fate deals him out.
Our very own Adrian Peterson is not called a running back for nuthin'.
What's his name that other running back of ours? well tell you what, maybe if you give him the ball more than three times a season may be able to show his stuff.
Adrian Peterson, and the offensive pushers, thanks
Charles Tillman, thanks buddy.
Devin, thanks
Brendan Ayanbadejo, thanks
Robbie Gould, thanks
the real Texan: Cedric Benson, heal up and come back to play for us.Fred Miller, move your feet faster than your arms, you aint that old, get yourself a ring. You deserve it for the dedicated years, people surely do forget fast.
I'm an Bears optimist, what can i say?
Bears.
Oh yeah special thanks to whomever decided to kick to Hester.

#24 Phil from SATX said . . .I've been down on RT but I found his play calling better this time - the run that Grossman fumbled on was a great call - the Broncos made a good play by stopping it short of the first down, and then Rex made it worse.
The play action out of a running formation (I think with only one wideout?) the first play of OT was brilliant. For all the suckering we did on the option / misdirection the Broncos ran, it was satisfying to see them get burned.
I doubt Hester will see many chances to reutrn kicks the rest of the year. The offense has to pick it up to make teams pay for kicking short or out of bounds.
The blocked punt call was also brilliant. IT was obvious the Saurbraun was going to kick to his right to pin Hester to the sideline since it worked the last time. Perfect time to call a punt block to that side.
The defense seems hopeless though.

#25 Bill said . . .What a game, a game that I didn't get a chance to finish because like an idiot I only Tivoed the 3 hours allotted. Man was I pissed last night - basketball practice denied me the ability to watch real time and Tivo denied me the comeback. For those in my position, I'm pleased to report NFL Network will be airing replay at 8 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday night. I can't wait.
We are witnessing history being made with Devin Hester. You'll be able to tell your grandkids, I was there, I watched him in his prime. #23 destined to be retired some day for the second time in Chicago sports. Watching him run is pure joy and really makes up for the rest of the shit this team has put us through this year.
The Bears are essentially playing 10 against 11 on both sides of the ball. Fred Miller CANNOT be playing anymore at this point. Calling him a liability doesn't begin to cover it. I did read this morning that he pulled himself from the game because of a bad ankle and John St. Clair finished the game for him. Let's just hope that continues for the rest of the season.
Defense is even a clearer cut case of playing 10 against 11. AA is that bad. He too CANNOT be playing anymore, for the rest of the season. What an imposter. I'll take anyone else on the roster over him.
Who's out there giving credit to RT? What I saw is yet another game when RT's scheme got the Bears all of 6 points throughout most of the game. If a team can score in the 4th almost at will but cannot during the rest of the game, that is clearly on the coordinator.
It's so clear to me now that it's almost maddening. I want Rex back, yes I do. He's better than Eli Manning, at least. I want him back with a new offensive line and a new coordinator. And I want an impact safety, and that's it. We can restore this team with a new line, a new coordinator and a new safety. Too much to ask? I think not.
I missed the AP heroics, but you saw again that Benson is not the problem here. These two backs behind a good line can be fine. And don't know why the dropsies were back today with the receivers, hopefully a one game aberration with weather as a contributor.
Overall the D looked good on many series, Urlacher looked great, it was just big plays that killed, and I am willing to pin most of that on playing 10 against 11. Also, new experiment at putting Ricky Manning Jr. at corner, now I think I know why they didn't do it earlier, he didn't look good at all. Another free agent bust. I guess he plays nickel okay but $15MM on him? Yikes.
Great win Bears. You're a couple of players and a coordinator away from being dominant. I know this: YOU CAN BEAT THE GIANTS. One win at a time.
November 26, 2007
#26 Bill said . . .I agree that the Bears have to have the same play calling throughout the whole game and not when we're far behind.
I worried before the comeback that Hester woudl bolt from the Bears as soon as his contract is up (anyone know when that is?) And we have so many holes we won't be able to pay big bucks for a lick returner. I hope I'm wrong. He is incredibly fun to watch and is at least a national bright spot on an otherwise forgetable team.
November 26, 2007
I have no idea what a "lick returner" is but it doesn't sound nice. I meant kick returner of course.
