I stole today's headline directly from this morning's Peter King column and he's right. Devin Hester IS mocking history. Jay Mariotti calls Hester the closest thing to MJ since MJ (something we've been saying here for months). David Haugh does the best job of truly breaking down Hester's significance in history. Let me put it this way: he's better than every kick returner in the history of football and it ain't close.
No full column today...just thoughts. And here they are...
1. Michael Strahan is a shell of what he used to be but Fred Miller still won't be able to block him. Something has to change at right tackle.
2. Adam Archuleta's only responsibilty Sunday should be making sure the Bears are hydrated. What was all that bullshit about tackling being his strength?
3. Steve Rosenbloom's blog got it right today: It's not as if Rex Grossman needs more help in killing his NFL career, but somebody needs to explain to the offensive tackles and wide receivers what their jobs are. Block. Catch. Come on.
4. Charles Tillman played an absolutely brilliant game yesterday, saving touchdowns and blocking punts. If this team can finally get Nathan Vasher back on the field, we might be able to see what this secondary is capable of.
The Bears now begin preparing for a Giants team that pitched an all-time disaster from the mound yesterday. The season is not dead yet.
ADDENDUM: Cedric Benson reportedly out for the season (ESPN). AP time.

#3 AfroCelt said . . .Phil, I agree with your take on the running back situation. Yes, AP played with heart, and shows more attitude, but I think he still averaged under 3 yds per yesterday. I think establishing once and for all that the line has been the problem all along with the running game. Benson was just starting to look better the last couple games and now he's hurt. I'm fine with AP as the starter but I'm a little worried about extended Wolfe playing time right now.
That was probably the wildest game at soilder field since the '01 Mike Brown games. I think we're sitting in the right spot to make a run.
I would add to Jeff's post about AA and Miller, the name Mushin Muhammad. I'm sorry, I'm sick and tired of his routine. 3 clear drops yesterday, including a touchdown in the first quarter. And this after mouthing off again this week about Rex not getting him the ball. Fuck this guy! Put in Bradley or Davis, just get him out.
Any body at the lake front yesterday? If so please share stories about what it was like there during that game.November 26, 2007
#4 Pissed Off said . . .Al... Second-hand report from brother in law: wet. He loved it though. On related news, I may or may not have secured tickets to see the Bears play December 30th against the Saints. We'll see.
the problem with benching Moose is that he is still considered a legitimate threat by other teams...and if he isn't, they then key up on BB and and the others. I still think that if you give him a bit of space (and his hands have Stick em' applied) he'll have a good game. I'm not quite ready to throw him out.
AA/over half the offensive line needs to go though.

#6 Megan said . . .Sucks to hear the news about Benson. AP will do fine in relief but like others and myself have been saying all along this o-line is brutal. Maybe just maybe AP will spark some life into them and cause them to block better doubtful but I can have hope!
Adam A needs to go that guy flat out missed 3 tackles that I could see in that game yesterday from TV, who knows how bad it will really be in films this week. Coaching staff better make him feel like an ass in those film sessions.
So many dropped passes, for the sake of god please catch the damn football people. I thought Grossman managed decent game yesterday, minus the fumbles it would have been a real good game but that is life.
On to the Gmen who are reeling in their own turmoil and usual 2nd hafl of the season slump.
News out of DC is SS Taylor has been shot in the leg and undergoing life threatning surgery so we are catching opponents on a bit of a downword spiral right now and we need to get rolling.

So what makes me nervous about Sunday is the fact that the G-Men are coming off of that embarrasing loss; like they will have something to prove.
I feel like all the elements are there for the Bears to be amazing. I have felt that way all season. I would love to see us dominate for the rest of the season. Especially against the Giants and even more so against the Pack and Vikes.
Bear Down!
