Gameday

Sunday, December 2, 2007 | Jeff

Great 1:00 endings. Redkins and Eagles lose. Minnesota thrashes Detroit. A Bear win today puts them in a tie for the final wildcard spot. Can you even believe that?

No Vasher today but the weather doesn't look to be letting up. Going to need the run game.

I'll check in at the end of each quarter...game's on here in New York.

#16 Will said . . .

On the hester drop. . .

Hester out ran the defenders and he outran the Rex's throw. Hester slowed down a bit but he wouldn't have needed to slow down if Rex had led him like he was the fastest reciever on the team. With a reciever that fast you have to lead him more.

December 2, 2007

#21 Will said . . .

Jeff. . . not talking about Rex throwing the ball farther on the Hester drop, but leading him more by throwing it sooner. Hester is so fast he could quickly out run any quarterbacks arm if they don't get the ball off soon enough.

#22 rich said . . .

two minute warning: rex is a devin catch away from haing nearly a three hundred yard HALF. other than devin, the receivers are making great plays and ap's running hard. the defensive right side is getting run over...make the adjustment at halftime...eli will not beat them today.

HALFTIME ALERT!
Rex Grossman is the story right now. This is a great performance. He's jittery with a ton of pressure and he's practicing ball security over field position. Don't think he's being dumb...he's consciously doing what he's doing...and it beats fumbling. Can't say enough about the receiver.

This is starting to get a little iffy. RT finally starts playing well and then goes too conservative with just a 9 point lead. The second half game plan has been lousy. This is the kind of game that you lose on the last play because you didn't put them away.

December 2, 2007

#40 T said . . .

What a fitting death for our hopes this season. Opportunity after opportunity to put this one away and neither the offense, defense, or even special teams could step up and close the deal. This game is a microcosm of our season: flashes of brilliance but in the end an utter disappointment.

And how the hell did our D go from top 5 to bottom 5 in one short season?

I put the entire loss on the coaching staff. This was a game that should have been a blow out. Everyone on offense played well even through the "mary" play calling by Turner. The talent is there. Grossmans, Berrian, Olson all these guys deserve better than this.

As long as Turner is around the Bears won't be in January. I'm starting to question Lovie Smith at this point as well.

#66 J Alberico said . . .

The chickens are finally coming home to roost. For the past 7-8 years, the Bears have been more lucky than good. The right bounces, some really bad pass interference calls their way in crucial situations, etc. Jerry Angelo is a pompous prick. He needs to go and the McCaskeys should take their money and run. When a real organization shows up, things might change for the most historically quarterback challenged team in the history of the league.

December 3, 2007

#67 Rancid said . . .

Guilt goes first and foremost to RT, then the defense for late game collapse. Jeff I recommend that the "Bear house" be renamed "Ron's house". The Bear House sounds like a good thing for starters and secondly, if the house is for those who have woefully disappointed the Bears, then Ron would be the owner.

Boxing analogy -

Enter rd 1 attacking the body with tremendous success, same in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and you have exploited a weakness and see your apponent is in trouble.

And then, because you lack a killer instinct (The Pats will never be accused of this bye the way), you start dancing.

And dancing, and then you take a knockout punch in the final fucking round.

FIRE RON TURNER NOW! He has a little mind, and the instincts of a fool.

I am just sick over this loss. Are we sure the network just didn't put in a tape of a game from the Dick Jauron era? This was classic Shoop/Jauron; get a lead early and try and run out the clock the entire 2nd half.
Absolutely pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goats:
1. Ron Turner, great opening game plan gave way to moronic 2nd half. Not enough Olsen, or Berrian underneath. This should be the last straw to fire him.
2. O-Line. Fucking disgusting, we can't even block one guy on a screen play!!! Not to mention run a coulple plays without a false start. 3.1 yards per rush, and 6 sacks tell the story today. Metcalf's dumb penalty on the 6 yardline killed us.
3. Hester. I'm sorry, I know he's a great player, but if he catches that pass the Bears blow the giants out and probably have a 17-0 lead @ the half.

December 3, 2007

#71 ilikereylestate said . . .

oh man this is very bad how can you blow a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter at 12:00 minutes left. What morons, how can the wide receivers drop the ball, Hester included. Today grossman was good but didn't have enough defensive coverage in the huddle to effectively pass the ball. this is due to the lack of management and coaching since they don't know how to pair the offensive lineman against the defensive lineman. Or i hate to say this someone is betting against the team or organized crime is involved. It defies pure logic and common sense given the amount of currency involved in the NFL that the management is backwards and unwilling to change and make bold decisions or even a futile attempt to at least put points on the board and make it and exciting real game. its pure nonsense. if someone is paying me 10 or 20 million a year i will know the length of everybody's arm including their ability to jump not to mention were they have been worked on surgically for damage. this of course would come into play as i correctly pair the players correctly. Mcaskey, the owners of the bears, if they want to win must seriously take this opinion into consideration if they want to win one god dam super bowl in the next 20 years yes its that bad.

I feel sorry for you guys - seriously...

You guys operate under the delusion that these Bears ought not relinquish any advantage, or edge in momentum, or lead as if they are playing by themselves on the field. The problem with that delusion is that only fans of very good to excellent teams can expect that. There are exactly two teams in the NFL that are very good or excellent: The Colts and The Patriots. The rest of us are mediocre at best (maybe the Cowboys and Steelers are a little better).

My Giants, a mediocre team if ever there was one, had there way with your team in the second half. They beat the Bears physically. Can't you just admit that rather than obsessing over the play-calling. Only the Colts and Pats can expect to turn every advantage into a victory. For the rest of us it's a coin flip.

I think the reason you are deluded is because you were under the impression that last year's Super Bowl team was actually a very good team. It was not. They were the best team and a lucky team in an awful conference. In the Supr Bowl you could actually see what the Bears were as they were basically dominated in every phase of the game except kick returns. The fact that the game was close on the scoreboard is a testament to Dungy's humanity (or stupidity). Is there any doubt that if Bellichick were coaching the Colts that day they would have beaten the Bears by at least 28 points?

My advice is to chill a little. Your team is not that good that they MUST WIN every time they have a perceived advantage (as they did today at half time). You don't really have the personnel to support that expectation.
