Since we are in the NFL news abyss, and more specifically the Chicago Bears news abyss, I have decided to strike up our own version of an NFL mock draft, Bears Blog style. Since I know we are all astute Bears fans, and more importantly for the sake of this mock draft, astute NFL buffs, I am going to assign one team’s pick to each of you who respond. That’s right, while the head cheese is away, the part-time bloggers will play. (Jeff, you’re more than welcome to participate, I’m sure you have a computer there)
What I need everyone who is interested to do is simply post a response on this thread saying that you want in. As soon as I have 30 responses (Me plus 30 others) I will do a follow up thread listing the draft order and time you should post. (I’m sorry in advance for those who will snooze and subsequently loose….er…lose) What I plan to do is set up 15 minute time blocks for each blogger, tentatively for Monday, where I will set up a thread so you can post your draft picks. I realize this creates some confusion because we may be doubling up on guys but I’m going to try and make this work. If you stick to your time frame to draft you should be able to know who is gone before you. You may have to draft some guys on the fly and we may double up on some guys but so what? We’ll try and make this as fun as possible. I will do my own random selection process (just trust me) that will determine which blogger gets each pick.
If you wont have access to a computer on Monday, or wont be able to post your pick for whatever reason please don't participate.
I will continue to post addendums if any breaking news comes up. As of now, the most noteworthy breaking news is that the Bills and Steelers will play a pre-season game in Toronto and that the Seahawks have signed Lofa Tatupu to a lucrative long-term deal...WHOOPTIE DO.
ADDENDUM: HAPPY EASTER TO ALL! It's now 4:00PM Central time on Sunday afternoon and we have a total of 10 who are willing to participate in the Blog Draft....needless to say that isn't enough to even get to the Bears pick. We might have to nix the whole thing but I think we'll wait to see what Monday brings. I assume there will be more traffic and probably more people willing to participate. Its a holiday weekend and so we probably arent getting the amount of participants we could during the week.
On another note...no interesting news to speak of...regarding anything. Again Happy Easter to all.

#16 zisk said . . .This will be going on during the day monday, I will probably have the first guy post around 8AM eastern time, and then there will be a pick every 15mins thereafter. If that doesnt work once I've assigned you a time and a team then you can just post whenever. I'm not going to get picky and I'm not going to expect everyone to be on time. I realize this is a long shot since poeple have schedules but we'll try our best.
If your not interested or cant participate, thats fine. This is still Da Blog and we can talk about whatever on here. So far we have seven, if it doesnt pick up we'll just do the first 15 or so picks or so.

Every football fan I know in Toronto that goes to Bills games in Buffalo wants no part of the team coming to Toronto. For anyone who's ever gone to a game in Buffalo you know exactly what I'm talking about. Ralph Wilson tailgating is the way football should be. It's half the fun of the game. Now if the Bears would just play a game in Buffalo we'd have some real fun down there.

#21 Bust News Update said . . .Just a suggestion, but we could create a list of available fifteen minute time slots, and each person could sign up for the specific fifteen minutes that they are available. That way it has a pretty good chance of going smooth.

McFadden
Shouldn't we at least sign some stop-gap linemen like we did with WR, just in case the draft and subsequent cuts don't go as planned.

#29 Pissed Off said . . .Hey PO'd - I appreciate the effort. I've been gone on spring break, now back, but it's end of quarter and unfortunately I have to get lots of work done through next Monday. I'll be dropping in occasionally just to see if there's any news, which sadly there seems to be none. It feels like FA is already over, although that can't be, right? Many guys still out there. Is Hackett still available? Can't remember. Any olinemen of note still out there?
Less than 30 days til the draft!
Go Bears!
Just a sidenote - possibly my best Christmas present this year was from my neighbors, a pair of Bears Krocs.
These are the greatest shoes in the world, only capable of being improved by having the iconic C and orange and blue of the world's greatest team. They never leave my feet, except for work.
If you do not have a pair, as devoted Bear fans, this will be the best $40 or so you ever spent.
March 24, 2008
#30 Phil from SATX said . . .I believe Hackett was signed by the Panthers? And the only WR I know of available thats noteworthy at all is Darrell Jackson, the niners cut him. As far as O-lineman, I know nothing else, certainly no one of note to mention still available....maybe someone can help us with that.
Regarding the Krocs Phil I have to disagree. I know so many people that love them, friends and family etc. but I think they are the most hideous shoes ever. I can barely stand the sight of those repulsive things. I assume they are ultra comfortable because I see no other reason that anyone could wear them. Maybe the addition of a Bears logo helps but man I just could never pull the trigger on a pair of those things...but to each his own.
How sad is this by the way....we've resorted to discussing Krocs on da blog.....jeez.
March 24, 2008
#31 Pissed Off said . . .PO'd - I felt exactly the same way - until I owned them. Then they became beautiful to me, and they are the world's most comfortable and practical shoe. Plus they provide me with a permanent way to advertise my Bears pride since I can't wear a Bears shirt or hat everywhere - but I always wear my Krocs.
Remember NASCAR? Wasn't I right about that?
Trust me.

#32 Lazarz said . . .You were absolutely right about NASCAR. I find myself keeping up with it casually now. I couldnt tell you the point standings leaders or anything but I know whos doing really good so far this year and I know some names/numbers/race team/ owners. After you go to a live race it changes your view.
We'll have to wait and see about the Krocs, I'm not going to say never but at this point it might as well be.

#34 Phil from SATX said . . .San fran was just found guilty of tampering with Briggs during last season. They surrender their fifth round pick to us. And we swap third round picks with them. This gives us some more ammo to hopefully move up in the draft at some point.

#35 Nick said . . .Jesse, you beat me to it. There's a LOT to read on Brad Biggs' blog. Check it out.
So the guys who wrote that it was odd that the Bears were pursuing this tampering deal were obviously offbase (I think Brad Biggs was one of them) - Bears moved up by 5 places in the third, which has a trade value of 25 points, or a high 6th round pick. Sounds like action worth taking to me.
Also more info than we've seen to date on who the Bears are checking out in the draft.
Check it out - certainly more interesting than Kroc talk!

Niners forfeit fifth-round draft pick after tampering with Bears' Briggs
NEW YORK -- The San Francisco 49ers have forfeited their fifth-round pick in next month's NFL draft after commissioner Roger Goodell deemed them guilty of tampering with Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs.
Goodell also determined the teams will switch picks in the third round of the April 26-27 draft. Chicago, which had the 12th pick, will get San Francisco's seventh pick and the 49ers will get Chicago's choice.
Goodell determined that the 49ers violated the NFL's anti-tampering policy by contacting Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about his client during the 2007 season.
Briggs, an all-Pro in 2007, had been designated as Chicago's franchise player, signing a one-year tender that meant he could not leave the Bears.
He had been expected to leave as a free agent after last season but instead re-signed with Chicago for $36 million over six years. Briggs will earn $21.6 million in the first three years of the deal and $13 million of the contract is guaranteed.
There had been reports of contact between the 49ers and Rosenhaus last season, and the Bears filed a tampering charge with the NFL. Goodell said both teams cooperated with his investigation into the allegations.

#37 Shady said . . .That is very interesting, almost reminds me of NCAA rules about not talking/texting to HS kids. I wasn't aware that this was a big deal.. let me get out from under that huge rock I've been living in.
March 24, 2008
#38 Shady said . . .It's quite the big deal Megan, just ask Kelvin Sampson (ugh).
Anyway, this tampering ruling is HUGE! news for Chicago. Moving up in the 2nd round will help us target a certain QB named Flacco, or perhaps more O-Line help. And you can bet JA will target a defensive stud with that extra 5th rounder.
At first I thought following up on tampering charges was almost pointless considering Briggs re-signed with the Bears, but now I couldn't be happier.
Poor 49ers have to give up their 1st AND 2nd round picks this year. Man they really fucked up, didn't they?
March 25, 2008

The Bears don't actually GET the 9ers 5th round pick, San Fran just has to forfeit it.

#41 Bears99 said . . .oh.
Well, maybe I was reading what I wanted to see, instead of reading what was actually there!
My bad.
So who can they target in the early 3rd? Henne?
I bet JA trades back down anyway... Probably with the 49ers.

#42 wayne Scott said . . .If JA trades down it would be no surprise to me.
I also find it funny that I get more information off of this site then chicagobears.com.... It took them almost a week to get one story that was worth my time to read.

We just got the 7th pick! San Fran tampered with Briggs so we got their pick! question, how does this change who we go after?
