Tommie Harris: A Good Guy

Friday, March 7, 2008 | Jeff

I'm not one to preach from the pulpit but the NFL is full of scumbags. You've got your murderers (Ray Lewis, Leonard Little), your drunk racists (Kerry Collins), your abnormally large douchebags (Adam Jones) and Brett Favre. (Wait, he's not in the NFL anymore)

Tommie Harris is a good guy but you won't read about him in Jay Mariotti's column because good guys don't sell newspapers. They don't lead the six o'clock news. They don't get Skip Bayless jazzed up on the Show-Formally-Known-as-Cold-Pizza. Good guys are just good guys.

Da Site has been following Tommie in Afghanistan and I've only linked there to the first of four or five articles. Peter King, also on a USO tour, documents Tommie's relationship with the troops in a column today.

I know it's not going to stir much conversation on here but I like it. He's a guy we're about to sign to one of the most lucrative contracts in the history of the league and after reading some of the stuff above, I think you'll be even happier about that.

First
I'm glad to see that he is commited to lifting the spirits of our troops. We see so much of the opposite--"What's in it for me?"

Tommie is one of the good ones.

Great story. Tommie is a good guy and unfortunately him being a good guy is pretty boring. But I bet he likes it that way. I am excited about signing the guy cuz he's been a great performer and when he's healthy he's even better, one of the best. He's going to be a great locker room guy and great for this team the older he gets and the more veteran-ishy he gets.

Megan, your words ring so true. Tommie Harris a great American patriot. God bless America, land of the free, home of the Bears.

Oddly enough #4 was an imposter but I cant argue. I dont know what it is with my imposter guy, sometimes he's a d-bag and makes comments that are totally out of line and sometimes its like he really wants to be me and talks for me like in #4 with complete sensical posts. This guy could be a serial killer or something, very weird. I dont know if I have an evil imposter (the one who makes the crude comments) AND a good imposter like in post #4. I'm getting scared. He must know I live in North Dakota, its not that big....but please no one leak my real name or I might end up dead. Touche good imposter with that post...very nice.

Lloyd excites me none. He had flashes and since has gone down the toilet. He's like McCareins...low risk...low reward. He'll end up like Eddie Berlin did..doing nothing.

you know Jeff, in your col. is the answer to the Bear's FA situation. They are going to sign Tommy to a monster contract with what money they have left. If this happens Angelo may wind up looking like a "cough cough" genius "cough cough". Sorry, I threw up in my mouth a little.

If this happens take a look at who we've got wrapped up, either long- or medium-term, on that side of the ball. Not to mention what is going to happen to salaries in the 2009 FA frenzy. Tommy will look like a bargain then.

I didn't think that was PO'd -- Too Mushy, except for that last part..
Lloyd's one of Turners boys, huh.. Just seems like a waste of space, something to fill a void? Well, it's only for a year, he'll have a lot to prove if he wants to go beyond that year. Maybe that plays in our favor a little. It won't hurt to have an eager guy trying to prove himself, esp with the potential positive leadership that there is in the locker-room..
It's the romantic in me, you guys think number and statistics, I think about the Hollywood ending. Hey, worse things could happen.

this could be the sign that the Bears are going in another direction when it comes to Bradley.
Hester can still develop an if Davis is still valued in Chicago he'll be back.

But with this signing I think the Bears might want to see what they got in Hass an Riedeau,an with Dez an GO you pretty much got pass catchers covered.

I hope we can get a 4th rd pick for Bradley.

Well when Tommy gets back maybe the Bears will have ironed out that new contract for him to sign(finger crossed)

Hell yeah. I love the Lloyd move. Hes cheap. He will have motivation cause everyone thinks hes a bust. Hes not super fast but has good hands. . . and if he sucks, its not a huge loss. I am excited.

On Brandon Lloyd.
Captain Obvious: I hope this guy can catch.

I see he's average height 6'0. and pretty young 26. Just hoping he remembers yards after the catch can only come after a catch.

that's not a to be disrespectful cause I have not done much googling as of yet. I'll judge him in by week 4 on the Bears roster.
