Less Than Two Weeks Remain

Monday, August 25, 2008 | Jeff

Apparently Kevin Jones chose the Bears this offseason (and not vice versa) because he thought he could start. Even he has been impressed with Matt Forte. It looks like a mirror image of 2006 - with Forte as Thomas Jones and Kevin Jones as Cedric Benson.

Call me stupid but I'm just discovering how good Tom Waddle is on the radio. Yes, I love Tom Waddle. Yes, I'm biased. But Waddle conducts himself with the same balance and poise he did on the football field. I'll be with them all season.

Wake me up when Chris Williams plays football. Until then, I don't want to read about him.

You guys beat me to this but here's the Sun-Times cut projections by Brad Biggs. Two thoughts: (1) I'd definitely keep Matt Toeaina over Dan Bazuin because I've seen Big Toe do it in the real games and (2) I think it is imperative that Caleb Hanie not be allowed to leave this organization. I just like the kid.

The NFC East are battling some major injuries this summer. Cowboys lost a starting guard for a month, the champs lost arguably the best pass rusher in the league for the season, Philadelphia lost a starting receiver and Jason Taylor has begun a year of more sidelining than playing.

We're days away from my season projections. Easily, the most pointless column written in America all year.

First? Agree on Toeaina and, I think, on Hanie too.

P.S. Rumor has it this morning that the Bears are looking into signing a veteran OL. Who could it be?

Fred "Turnstile" Miller is what this OL needs.

Just because nobody has said it here yet, can we sign Usain Bolt?

Season projections and predictions are like assholes... Everybody has one and they usually stink.

By the way if we sign Fred Miller again I may just turn in my Bears fan card. The Giants are trying to talk Michael Strahan out of retirement, and the Bears are talking to Miller about the same? Gotta be kidding me.

By the way again, did anyone else hear the conference call with Angelo regarding Williams? Talk about sounding defensive, I think he threw a few expletives in there as well.

Well I think it's legit, I mean c'mon, when Chris Williams tells you himself he has a herniated disc... and you gamble anyway... and it doesn't pay off... and you had safer bets like Branden Albert or Jeff Otah... (by the way the Bears will see Otah in wk 2 @ Carolina)...and it's another questionable 1st rd pick by JA... JA has some splainin' to do! I don't mind the press picking fights.

You never know, best case scenario Williams comes back around week 8 and makes a significant improvement in the pass game as well as the run game for the next 15 years. Worst case scenario? We've seen it happen before with JA, we're kind of bracing for it now. So I guess be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. It's not easy with this "bunch" but they could always pull a rabbit out of Orton's... golf bag.

Keep Big Toe! Screw Bazuin. He was drafted as an insurance policy we no longer need, plus he underperformed. With Tommie and Dusty being guys who have had some injury issues, DT is a position where we need the depth.

Is anyone else watching Darren Sproles run tonight? The guy reminds me of Garrott Wolfe and is looking GREAT in space.

Jeff -- I have to agree with you. The media, Biggs in particular, picked a fight. Maybe its the nature of a major market, but man, the vitriol can be pretty amazing sometimes. If you listen to the Score, which unfortunately has just enough OK info to keep me listening (only to podcasts, never live), you get the impression that their personalities are rubbing there hands together with glee whenever something like this comes up. I know it sells papers but give me a fucking break.

Jeff I have the Waddle and Silvy podcast set to download daily on iTunes. I love it and listen to it every day.
Shady said it on predictions. Ill leave it at that.
Dazuin will be kept over Toe strictly because of the 2nd round pick. Which makes me sick. I want to scream whenever i think this through- we traded Thomas Jones, the MVP of our offense, for a 2nd rounder. We turned that 2nd round pick into Dan Fucking Bazuin. FUCK.
