P.S. I would love to watch Dez run over some Colts linebackers like he does in the first play of the Bears v. Eagles video.

You look at those highlites from last season and as bad as we were, we were only a couple plays here and there from making the playoffs even with our QB round-about problms and the running game and the defensive let down. This is exciting, I think the players are going to have something to prove.

Would you rather rub in Packer's fans faces that their HOF QB did awesome with another team or that they only got a 4th round pick for him. The better he and the Jets do, the higher pick GB gets. I think 3rd Rd if they make the playoffs and up from there. So next year he can do great, this year only as good as gets GB that 4th rounder.
Screw all those teams. Go Bears! Here is your chance D and coaches to show us that you are elite. We already know #23 is. Keep it simple KO. Blitz, blitz, blitz those rookies on the Colts line Babich.

10 minutes to go - Shady, don't like Bradley and Bennett out, nor Adams and Big Toe - sounds like we're down to gimpy Tommie, Dusty and Izzy. Didn't hear anything about those guys hurt. At least we didn't hear that Des is out.
I'm excited, nervous too. It's the freaking Colts! Hope our men are up to it.
My guess is MVP honors on this win go to Matt Forte, Kyle Orton, and the entire secondary who will be responsible for several INTs that will keep us in control of this game.

September 8, 2008
#87 animal said . . .End of first quarter thoughts -
This is about as good of a start as I could have hoped for. After a great looking defensive scheme, Manning still pushed down the field, greatly helped by BS roughing call. Then a fantastic stand, complete with the great Manning melting down, hold to 3.
After a 3 and out by Kyle and crew, D starts to stiffen more, then we get to see a 50 yard run for TD from our new hero, Matt Forte. How many 50 yard runs did we have last year? ANY? No celebration dance to follow, the way we like it and want it.
He follows that up on the next series with a 9 yard run that was a thing of beauty, juking, changing direction, leaping over, something CB could never have dreamed of doing. Then Hester pulls in his first catch of the season, showing a little of what he can do. We ultimately had to punt, but we got to see some of the future here. Plus some rest for the D.
Did I mention we're winning the game to boot?
Good disciplined play by the D, showing nothing of the lackadaisical quality of preseason. Forte's doing it all and then some. Special teams needs to bring it, Kyle needs to play well, and we can win this game.
Note - this is almost impossible to do - as I am now watching Manning move down the field - but a great first quarter for the Bears!

September 8, 2008
#91 Da Coach said . . .Make no mistake, our D is HITTING out there! We can't expect Manning and crew to do nothing out there, but so far this is much closer to the D I was hoping for than the D I was seeing in preseason. Now we need to create at least one turnover. Should have had one already, and refs giving bad information to Lovie was the reason we had to waste a timeout.

harrison? we got him in the fourth round right? guy can smoke all the weed he wants if he continues to set up safeties.
orton? smiling, talkative, commanding, good passes. very happy with him so far. only negative is he's dropping back a bit too much. but when he scrambled and took that hit and got another two yards? that's going to get some respect in the locker room. happy.

September 8, 2008
#126 Phil from SATX said . . .Thrilled with Orton's play so far. He was off-target a bit on some throws over 15 yards, but he's since settled down and otherwise has looked confident, made good decisions, and as I said earlier won style points on the run of his.
Matty: spectacular. Couldn't have hoped for a better debut.
Decent line play, though Beekman and St. Clair have definitely whiffed on their share of blocks.
Defense: What more can you ask for? Holding the Colts to 2 FGs in a half is pretty solid. Here's hoping Manning doesn't find a rhythm. Would like to see us getting a little more consistent pressure up the middle, but Wale looks like he's picking up right where he left off, and the rest of the guys have looked good as well. They're hitting hard, playing with passion. Even though Harrison and Wayne can and will get open, and the Colts will inevitably move the chains, I couldn't be happier with the way they've held up overall.
September 8, 2008
#127 D said . . .Half time thoughts:
Who out there isn't flying high right now! I sure as hell am! We are not only beating the Colts 15-6, we look at least that much better than them right now!
The best laid plans have not gone astray - in fact all phases are working, and working pretty damn well. Those are 15 OFFENSIVE points put up there, IN THE FIRST HALF, when our full game goal is 21 or so. Don't know TOP but if felt in our favor, or at least even. Matt Forte - he'll do it all, won't he? If it takes running backwards, he'll run backwards! This was a WINNER of a pick, and I don't care that it's only the first game, I've seen enough, and so have you. Stay healthy, my friend! Riches and fame and love await you! 100 yards at the half!
And the D - what can we say about the D? They aren't who we thought they were, they're who we thought they were.. before.. errr.. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! They're playing great, and everyone's contributing! (Harrison was 3rd round pick, btw, and worth every penny, it looks like) Tommie in there, Alex in there, Ogun in there, Harrison sacking, Ur's hitting, PEANUT'S HITTING!!!!, Izzy's hanging a big paw up there knocking down Manning...
Also have to say big kudos to my least favorite coordinator, RT, today you are earning your pay! No, the second draw on 3rd on long not so good, but everything else is working. Madden said there at the end it's a pretty simple game plan, and it's working.
[Reports that Brady may be out for year. After this game, maybe we'll say the same about Peyton Manning! Wide open race, folks!]
Alright, I know I'm getting ahead of myself here. But I am proud of my Bears, proud of their effort, proud of their passion, proud of the coaching, all of it!
Now we need to play for 30 more and seal this deal with the upset of the week in the NFL.
Let's do it! GO BEARS!

Right when I thought they screwed up that last drive bam big play to Olsen and dare I say good play call RT to create a LB mismatch 1 on 1 with Olsen to the outside. Keep it up. D looks like a bunch of bad asses with a chip on there shoulder. Tillman laid the wood on that receiver. Thought he was going to break him in two. Come on Bears. Keep it up!!

After a could-have-been disastrous start to the second half by a thinking-too-much-of-himself Devin Hester, the Bears D gave up then took away. It was these kinds of defensive swings that helped us win so many games in 2006.
We are two scores up, and we need 15 more minutes out of our guys.
This game has been better than my wildest expectations so far - but now we need to win it.

BEARS WIN! BEARS WIN! BEARS WIN!
I think that my earlier MVP predictions (made pre-game with admittedly not a lot of confidence) of Matt Forte, Kyle Orton and secondary were pretty good, in retrospect. The only change I'd make to that is I'd replace the secondary with the entire D, add the offensive line, and I'd add three men I'll take my hat off to: Ron Turner, Bob Babich and Lovie Smith. This was a superbly coached game all around. This game, this single game, restored my faith in this coaching staff.
I'd like to make a suggestion for tomorrow - rather than spending any time with I told you so's or apologies for underselling this team or cautionary tales of "it's only one game, slow down", let's all admit right now that no one knew whether this team could be as good as we hoped they could be. No one knew. Both sides were reasonable.
We should have a different take now, after this game. This is a different team than last year. Different on O because there are vastly different skill players playing this year than last year, and changes to the line as well, changes which at least for one game seemed to be a big positive over last year. Matt Forte changes everything, and I'm going to say that Kyle Orton changes things too.
This team is different on D because they are healthy, and they've upgraded at safety over the beginning of last year.
The special teams are the same, they are who we thought they were. Didn't do anything spectacular in this game, but don't kill Devin for one bad move, he still changed the game for us just by being out there. And he'll get a good lesson, early, without any cost.
With great D, great special teams, a great running game, and an effective low-mistake quarterback, WE ARE GOING TO WIN A LOT OF GAMES THIS YEAR!
Time for everyone to get on board, forget the preseason and all our worries, and GET PSYCHED ABOUT THIS TEAM! We're all on the same side now! We're all BEARIMISTS!
WHAT A WIN!

#186 SOCALBEARFAN said . . .The media can make all of the excuses they want about Manning being rusty but the Bears ran up almost 200 yards on the ground against a healthy Colts defense with Bob Sanders in there. The O Line sure opened up some good holes too. Where are all of the negative posters on the blog now? Granted it is only one game but there is a lot to be positive about. Don't forget as well that we won by 16 and Devin Hester did next to nothing and made a stupid decision that put the Colts into great field position.

#188 Eternal Pessimist said . . .Well that was fun! Am I dreaming or did we just dominate the Colts on the road? The D looked angry, ST did it's job minus the one mistake to run it out by #23. Even when we helped them out the D didn't break.
Jones looked very good, Forte looked awesome, line did way above expectations (I was definitely a naysayer about the O-lines prospects to do well) Some big plays fromthe TE's, we just need the WR's to keep grabbing a catch here and there, spread it around, we don't need a #1. And I am assuming no one has a problem with Orton as the QB for the time being.
How many football "experts" are changing their predictions right now for the Bears season? Fuck em all. Yeah! So who on that schedule should we not beat. We play like this next week and the sky is the limit. Come on Bears! We can win the Super Bowl. I know it.

First off thanks Jeff for this site. I been lurking here since the preseason when I found the site and love the comentary and evaluations by everyone posting. The links to Roy's vidoes were great (he did have quite a creepy quality, but the best access to preseason I've ever had)
I'm ecstatic about this game, the D flat out came to play and as for the double duece well let's just say he's sick!!!!!
I still think Rex is the better QB, but Orton did everything I could hope for and I am 100% behind him. If he keeps this up I love our QB situation. He's great in the pocket and sweet over the middle; also who has a backup that 2 years ago lead their team to the Superbowl.
Hey there's some warts out there, but this week I'll enjoy watching all the espn wunderkinds trying to explain how they aren't suprised.

#194 Anytime said . . .Wow. I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. I've got this big goofy smile on my face. Part of it is due to my White Sox (sorry, Cubs fans) being in first place as well, but that was an absolutely fantastic win in all phases.
Seemed like the Bears had trouble getting pressure on Manning at the outset, but I loved what Michaels and Madden quoted Lovie as saying, that they could have won SB XLI if they could have stopped the run. I absolutely agree, and they did the right thing making Manning throw it 49 times (for an essentially meaningless 257 yards).
What impressed me the most was the O-line. I sincerely believe that both Grossman and Orton can succeed on this team with a solid O-line - the difference is that Grossman folds like an accordion under any type of pressure, whereas Orton can stand in and make some tough throws. However, tonight they did a number on a very fast Colts D-line, and if they can contain Freeney and Mathis and co., I definitely like their chances against most defenses.
Forte was awesome - that juke of Bob Sanders was out of this world.
The D did its thing. My favorite play was P-nut's strip of Harrison - a signature play of his but WR's just never seem to catch on. Although the safety was pretty sweet too.

#197 jeff said . . .Great plays:
1. Forte's 50-yard run. That play alone said it's going to be a good year.
2. Marcus Harrison's sack down to the 1. Even bigger than the safety that it set up.
3. Peanut's strip and Brigg's scoop and run. That's what special units do when the game is in doubt.
4. The huge hit on Addai that sent his but to the sidelines. Payback. Who doesn't think now that we could have won the Superbowl of Tommie and Mike were healthy.
5. Orton to Clark to the 1. One of several big plays to the TEs. That'll be a theme all year. How good can we be this year? Am I just sucked into the hype of a Week 1 win or is this for real? In 2006, we won our first 10 games and people started to ask, Why couldn't the Bears go unbeaten? We won with game management, solid running, and dominant D. Why couldn't that be the case this year. Peyton was injured and rusty, maybe. But didn't we do the same thing to him for the most part in the Superbowl? Hold him to mostly field goals. We just couldn't tackl Addai and Rhodes. Because we weren't healthy. The O-line is our big weakness, right? But what if the Tampa guy fills a hole at guard and Chris Williams comes back and he's everything we hoped he would be? So is it crazy to think we could be contenders this year? Contenders to go back to the big dance?

#201 some.devil said . . .Let's get the 200th post up there. Just checked the local papers, wanted to make sure no one decided there was any need to impersonate the departed columnist by going negative, and was pleased to see there was none of that. Instead there was a generalized view of "it's time for reassessment" - on the Bears D, on the Bears O, on the coaching, on Jerry.
That is the right take - forget what went on before, because preseason didn't count, and if personnel mistakes were made before, they've been corrected. There is no reason to take anything away from this game except complete heady optimism for the rest of the season, and for this team's postseason prospects. Did you predict 6-10 for this team? Forget that you did, it's okay, it was reasonable with what we've been seeing for the last season-and-a-pre. Time for a new prediction. We just faced the hardest team on the schedule (on paper anyway) - and there's not a team left that, if we play with the intensity and smarts that we played with last night, we will not beat. Injuries happen, and injuries change things, and there will be injuries. But I'll say it again, there's not a team we shouldn't beat left on our schedule if we can play like that.
Reassessment. This can be a Super Bowl team. Who can wait for next Sunday at 12:00? I can't.

Hester still a mini heart attack for bears fans but his past shown to weigh heavy on the better than worse.
I'm biting my lip for Orton but no interceptions is always worth noting the flub with him and Kreutz should not have happened but they did ok afterwards .
Matt Forte and injured Kevin Jones both make me a happy bears fan.
Peanut Tillman (God bless the him and his family) Is still the number one dislodger of the ball. Great run back for Briggs, still proving to be farve-like when it comes to durability , limp off the field.
good sacks on defense.
good catches by all the WRs.

#205 said . . .I assume there will be a new thread up later today but I want to say it was nice to see the upset. The Colts were heavily favored and the Defense won the game for us. They shut the Colt offense down, pass game and run game. Good pressure on Manning all night and the key turnover that lead to the TD was the kicker.
Matt Forte showed me a lot, I thought he looked fairly impressive in camp and preseason but I didnt know it was Lovies plan to give him the load....all game including 3rd downs with the exception of a few series where Jones got in. I wonder if he keeps seeing that load all year if he'll get run down? He's got age on his side thats for sure.
Outside of Forte and some good blocking for him the offense was pretty vanilla. Kyle had more than a few overthrows, one pass that should have picked off, he didnt look good in my opinion with the exception of one nice touch pass to Olsen on that 3rd and one, even most of his other completions were way high and the WRs were lucky to jump and catch them. Lovie was very conservative with him and he has to be. He didnt lose the game for us and thats all you can ask of him...its Kyle Orton. As someone on here previously mentioned we're going to have to come from behind at some point this year and I dont know if he's capable, I doubt it.
Very surprising that the Colts looked that beatable but hey apparently the Defense can simply flip the "regular season switch." That tells me that preseason means virtually nothing...for any player or position. We'll have to let this thing play out but that was a nice start.

That was a beautifully laid out game plan put into action with perfection. Everything that was wrong with Super Bowl XLI was put right last night. It was the Bears that stopped the run cold, and rushed for 200 yards on offense. Super Bowl XLI was lost along the line of scrimage despite all the argueing otherwise.
And tonight was won along the line of scrimage. Hat's off to the coaching staff for a great game plan! Hat's off to offensive line who far exceeded the expectations of just about everyone! And hat's off to the defense for turning back the clock!September 8, 2008
