Game #3...very nice. My sister got married on Friday and I was a groomsmen. The groom gave us all Walter Payton jerseys as gifts...I will happily wear it today.

Should be an interesting game. Any word on whether or not Skunk is playing?

I made the mistake of reading the ESPN gametime report for the Bears.
Remind me again why ESPN exists?

It'll be interesting to see how this Bears secondary performs, and what they'll do if a player goes down to injury. If you guys remember our safety play last year, you'll know what I'm talking about. Right now if Mike Brown or Kevin Payne goes down, who do we plug in? Steltz? Not today, he's got an ankle injury... hmmm. Not trying to be negative this morning, just considering likely what-if scenarios. Still no word on Hester yet, but I don't see why they'd put him in there. The reward is probably not worth the risk at this point.

September 21, 2008

#13 BearDown1982 said . . .

NFL Network just said that Skunk will be inactive today. Let's hope Manning and Vash can pick up the slack a bit.

No Hester shouldn't hurt on offense because Turner doesn't use him right anyways. But, it might be different not starting right around the 40 or 45 everytime.

Lets make up for last week!

September 21, 2008

#27 Shady said . . .

Well the Bears defense starts the game with AUTHORITY again, a wonderfully tipped ball by Urlacher and a great bit of concentration on the part of Briggs to come up with the pick.

On offense, already a couple small mistakes by Forte and Clark keep the Bears out of the endzone. Robbie Gould FG is GOOD!

3-0 Bears

OUR OFFENSE SUCKS!!
RON TURNER SUCKS!!

September 21, 2008

#72 mikebdot said . . .

Kreutz has whiffed on a number of blocks today. 3rd and 2 before the half...all by himself, one guy to block...what does he do? Completely fucking whiffs. Didn't even touch the guy. Guy stops Forte before he can deliver the blow to the LB and gain those two yards.

Ron Turner can eat shit.

Orton needs to be reminded which color jersey we're wearing.

That pass to Forte in the endzone was so unfortunate for us.

I'm going for a 12 mile run, to forgot what I've just seen.

September 21, 2008

#73 NittyGritty34 said . . .

This is all we will ever be able to expect from this O with this guy at qb. When will we figure it out?

September 21, 2008

#74 Bearman on the Sangamon said . . .

Is it just me or did Brian Griese NEVER play this good last season? Back when we had two good recievers.

Also, I am officially in the 'I hate Ron Turner' camp. He did it again. 3rd and 1 and you put it in the air? Come on man! Show some confidence in this jewel out of Tulane!

Also, Kyle Orton is in desperate need of pulling his head out of his ass. Granted, the first interception was just a good play by the defender...it was a well thrown deep pass. The second interception...are you kidding? Nice attempted tackle though.

Sigh. I'm worried. This isn't looking good. Too many bad '07 memories, I guess.

Will a real WR please stand up?

2. Protection sucks ass today. Step it up fellas.

3. If all we can do are screens (and we can barely do them), why not throw Garrett Wolfe in the slot and screen to him?

4. D looks good...ST looks good. I'm ready for some fucking offense. All phases guys, all phases.

5. Everyone that's sick of the Rex argument beware.

6. Fuck Soldier Field for booing Bears!

September 21, 2008

#79 KentuckyBearsFan said . . .

Orton's first INT was not his fault...with a better receiver, that play would have been a touchdown.

But man, that second INT sucked hard.

And this team...with Ron Turner...should NEVER try to hurry up before the 2 minute warning before a 3rd & 1...bad things always seem to happen.

Alrite Orton so far looks like a fuck up!!! Thats right folks, if he throws one more InT I'm literally going to shut this game off, because it makes my blood boil seeing this pathetic so called QB playing over REX. SAy all you want Orton Sucks! I have been saying this from day 1 and I will still continue until REX gets his starting QB position back. If I was the bears I would basically give up protecting which we are seeing right now, the OL has no confidence in Orton its given, b/c they know Orton can't throw more than 15yrds, and his WR's are just rotting out there wasting potential TD's which Orton can't connect on. God help US!

LMAO

That ball downfield to Booker was awful, he had to stop and turn around. There is no excuse for that with no pressure in the pocket.

September 21, 2008

#97 craig said . . .

Orton's only two throws over 15 yards—the endzone pick intended for Forte and that third down throw to Booker—were both severely underthrown. The Bucs essentially only have to defend 15 yards at a time. Doesn't bode well...

Nearly every pass Orton throws is either inaccurate or severely under thrown. He cannot even throw a screen pass to Forte for Pete's sake. He ends up throwing it at his feet. i think its time to pull Orton. Play calling may not be fantastic, but Orton cannot execute.

Good teams FINISH. This team didn't.

You can't put all the blame on one boneheaded penalty. Don't forget they gave up 350 plus to a former, mediocre quarterback.

This loss is on the offense in my book. I know the D gave up tons of yardage in the second half and overtime, but just like last week, it's a result of the offense's inability to sustain a drive and protect the lead. The D could barely run by the end of the game.

Orton had a couple of nice drives in the second half, but overall his performance was pretty poor, as was that of the offensive line. The o-line put lots of pressure on Orton in the first half and failed to open up many holes for Forte. That's a recipe for bad offense. But even when he had time, Orton was consistently inaccurate throwing the ball. If not for a couple of very nice adjustments by his receivers, it would have been even worse.

If anyone on the defense needs to get called out, it's the complete lack of a pass rush by the front four. Unless Briggs or a DB were blitzing, Grieseball had all goddam day back there, and we know that's bad news the way the Bears leave the middle of the field open.

Oh, and anyone seen Urlacher lately?

This is not on the offense...the defense sucked!

#170 HesterFan23 said . . .

I think the part that goes on the offense is because of two things Turner did:

1) In the first half he should have used the WR. He waited too long.

2) Why would you try a QB roll-run on 3 & 2 when you need a first to run out the clock? At least run it with Forte.

Words cannot explain how much I as a BEARS FAn am disgusted by this loss. WE should have won this game plain in simple. There's a lot of fingers to point at, but its clear and I'm sure everyone will agree, we didn't execute and hold our lead like we should have because our Incompetent QB KO could progress our lead earlier in the game, he had very good looks and yet he fucked it up! I swear I was praying to god he would get TKO'd by that hit he received by Tampa's defensive backs, that was AWESOME! Can't wait to watch a replay of that on ESPN"s Jacked up!lolz thats gonna be #1, I'm sure of it. But other than that Peanut Tillmans BoneHeaded decision to jump into that pile and hit someone was just the nail in the coffin to lose this game. I'm not so sure scoring 20 points gets you an automatic win in the NFL.

I think the Bears sent too many people on the last drive in regulation. We lost guys to cover them and didn't get enough pressure to make up for it.

September 21, 2008

#182 zmac said . . .

180: Game plan? They caused 4 turnovers, yet the offense cant do anything with those turnovers. Its great to force turn overs but this offense can't turn it into points. TB forced 3 and outs and kept getting the ball right back in Griese's hands. It is ridiculous that he had so many pass attempts when get had 3 interceptions. The offense gives this defense no support. Its like the pitcher that throw 7 innings and give up 1 runs and gets a loss.

September 21, 2008

#197 zmac said . . .

196: The offense also gave up 7 points, an interception in the endzone and field position. The game is over in regulation if the offense doesnt give up the pick-6. Yes they had some ok drives in the second 1/2, but if they take advantage of the turnovers in the first 1/2 instead of turing it over themselves they win this game easily. A pick-6 and a interception in the endzone are 2 of the worst turnovers you can commit.

#198 johnny said . . .

ortons stats will speak for themself. he was 22/34 268 yds 2td and 2int and 24 pts.......how can this loss be blamed on the offense and qb......i put this lost on the defense......they tend to fold each week.....managing a game the way orton manages the game is better than old intercepting machine grossman.

September 21, 2008

#199 zmac said . . .

198: The stats speak for themselves? You cannot give that first FG to the offense. The offense did nothing there. Teh defense gave them the ball basically in the redzone. You have to get a TD there. Then the offense was -7 points with the pick-6 then add on the interception in the endzone. The interceptions were huge and he gave up two. How is that managing the game well?

We agree on something!!! I said I had BIG problems with the offense too. Orton's pick 6 damn near had me throw a beer bottle through the TV. Also hated most of Turner's first half plays. I think Orton plays better when Turner is aggressive. Scares the hell out of me but I think he plays better. AND if the offense had capitalized on the plays mentioned it wouldn't take much of a defense to complete the deal. However our super great defense had only a measly 10 point lead with a few minutes left. Should have FINISHED!!!!!

I can't blame it on the defense. They gave up 20 points.

I think Turner killed is with his play calling in the first half and on that 3 and 2 with 2:06 left in the game. A first likely gets us the game.

I also can't get over the penalty. If the refs don't blow that call, we get the ball atleast at midfield.

#205 HesterFan23 said . . .

Tillman ran in after Harris was punched twice in the face. He tried to pull the guy off and someone tackled him.

September 21, 2008

#206 zmac said . . .

201: I agree with you. The D should have finished, but I think the turnovers are responsible for the losses the last 2 weeks. This defense gives the offense a lot of opportunities and the leads should be so large that it cant be blown IMO. The D should not have been in these situations the last 2 weeks.

I also agree with you about Turner. Teams are going to start putting 8 in the box alot because they know we have a talented kid in the backfield. We need to take advantage of it. We need more accurate passing as well (I think 2 of Lloyds receptions could had been taken to the house if they were better thrown balls) and less dropped balls by Davis.

September 21, 2008

#207 shonbear said . . .

-Defense failed.
-Outcoached for 3.5 to 4 quarters.
-Critical penalties (one VERY bad call)
-Yes the O has the ball 39 minutes, and all they come up with is 24 points (-7 for the touchdown on one INT and -7 for the touchdown that Forte should have had if the ball wasn't thrown behind him that was an INT) in all that time.

This was extremely disturbing. Again, I don't see how we can compete with the way the Eagles are playing.

We waited with great hope this whole offseason to prove to the world that last year was an injury riddled season and Cedric Benson was a loser. Yes, proof positive that Cedric was a loser, but now what? Only two receivers made any catches all day (discluding the TE's), those are on the QB and play calling from RT.

We let fucking moose celebrate and now we let gilmore and Greise celebrate. We had both games and should be looking at 3-0, but now what. Next week will determine whether Rex returns and maybe we can go cinderella from there. I'm not saying he's the answer, but if we are looking at 1-3 then something needs to be done to change things up.

Gotta get back to work. I think we aren't that far apart. My reaction was more on singling out the offense for what seemed to be total responsiblity for the loss.

Rather than making a complete point by point comparison...here are a couple; agree with you on the first FG after minus 7.... disagree on others....such as - 86 yd come from behind TD WITH a successful 2 pt conversion is better than an OK drive..

I'll tune in later and watch PO'd piss on Orton with gleeful smugness. Wonder if he still rather have Rex than Eli....pretty sure he said exactly that last year.

September 21, 2008

#213 Crown said . . .

A couple other things I need to get off my chest:

Besides Lloyd, no receivers have stepped up. Davis was supposed to have a breakout year and has been a total non-factor. Thus far, he has shown that he can be a average slot man at best. Olsen lost the game last week. Booker is 108 years old. Bradley can't get on the field for some mysterious reason. There are no deep threats that can create space down field except for the inexperienced and injured Hester. This might be the worst receiving core in the league. I know the O-line has made them look worse, but c'mon for fuck sake. Sorry about the negativity, I'm just upset by the continual ineptness of the offense year after year.

This was an extremely tough pill to swallow. If it were up to me, I'd fire Ron Turner tonight and name an interim replacement from within. You can point to tons of different places to determine the reason for the loss - but to me, Ron Turner lost this game for us, by completely giving up on his skill players in the first half, thereby piling on the 3 and outs, JUST LIKE LAST YEAR, and not getting points when the D serves up stuff on a platter. Field goals don't mean jack, when I saw us take the second field goal I got a terrible feeling about this game, knowing one drive puts us behind. And it did.

Another field goal to end the first half. Another 3 and out to start the second.

So then Ron Turner (who probably got a scathing and expletive filled phone call from someone, maybe Ginny herself, at half time) starts actually calling pass plays to real live wide receivers. And good things start happening. No Kyle wasn't great on most of it, yes WRs had to twist and contort to make some of those plays, but at least they were given a chance to make the plays, when they were completely shut out in the first half, just by play calls.

Then we get a shot to ice the game with just a first down needed, and Ron can't call the simple plays needed to do it.

Same thing in the OT. Now I was beyond livid at Tillman, and initially said this game's on you dickhead, but the reality is we didn't deserve to win it. We are still a hapless offensive team, only this time I don't blame our players, because I think we have enough talent to get points. I blame Ron F. Turner.

Fire Turner. Fire him now. Turn the season around with someone else, anyone else. It's not about Orton, it's not about the Oline, it's not about our wide receivers, and it's certainly not about our running backs. It's TURNER.

D was gassed, any other D would have been too. Yes they should have made the stops, but they've done enough good, both today and in the previous games, to warrant a pass.

This is about Turner.

GET YOUR ASS OUT OF CHICAGO! THE TIME IS NOW!

You know, I've rewrote this a few times. I could write another profane post filled with death threats as I usually do at times like this, but you kow, they just get old. I'm just tired of it. I still am shocked RT didn't get canned last year. I made a small half-hearted effort to give him the benefit of the doubt after game one. I don't put this whole game on him, Orton wasn't great, there were defensive errors and Peanuts big goof, but the simple reality is that the man is a horrendous OC. I said in the pre-season that if we win, it will be in spite of him, not because of him. So far he has been a huge contributor to two losses. I hate him. I can't imagine a Bears fan who doesn't.

September 21, 2008

#226 Crown said . . .

I dislike Ron Turner very much and don't even think he should be a college offensive coordinator. But these skill players and offensive line make his play calling look worse than it actually is. Your not going to look good as an OC if your O-line can't stop the pressure, your WRs can't get open consistently and you don't have many players that can stretch the field. Talent makes or breaks a coordinator more than schemes and play calling.

I don't blame Ron Turner for this loss, I was actually OK with his playcalling. It was the EXECUTION that was the bigger problem. Even though it wasn't pretty in the 1st half, the offense put enough pts. on the board to win this game. It was the defense that didn't finish the game today.

O.T. should have been moot but..Rashied Davis, anytime you want to stop dropping passes on 3rd down that would keep key drives alive, fine by me. 2 weeks and 2 games the Bears LOST as opposed to the opponent winning it. This one was given away with BOTH hands. Oh yes, another BANNER week for NFL officials, too. Premature whistle blowns a Tampa kickoff return dead that was clearly a fumble. Tampa guy pounding away on a Bear right before Peanut's brain cramp, but the Zebras blissfully ignore what should have been offsetting fouls to give Tampa a first down. Kyle does look like he's throwing into the wind, lmao. He is the major factor why our Defense got worn out in the 2nd half. This guy has been on the field and out tooo quickly. HE didn't give our D enough breathing time and that hurry up Offense of TAmpa just put the icing on it. The knew our D was getting wary and they took full advantage of it. Words cannot amount to as much hate I have towards KO. This guy really does suck! I mean I have been complaining a lot about him on here bashing him day in and day out, but today, he really had my blood boiling. We could have easily won this game had he not made the throws that counted. I'm not putting full blame on him for losing this game, there are others out there for instance Tillman's stupidity but It all comes back to Orton not making it happen early and giving us a nice good lead over the Bucs. Kyle ended the game with strong statistics today against a stout Tampa defense, which was apparently stouter than ours.

Another week, another Jauron like loss. I'm so sick of this shit. We lack the explosiveness on offense to put up enough points to put games out of reach. So eventually we leave teams in games they shouldn't be and boom they come back and beat us. Just demoralizing.
That first half was brutal on offense. First drive starts deep in Tampa territory and of course we go 3 and out with a damn field goal. Typical of the last week's game, and we end up with three field goals in the first half.
Great job by Orton finding his inner Jim Harbaugh on that pick 6 right to a freaking defensive lineman. That play was unreal. Had he not pulled the best drive of his career out of his ass by throwing to Lloyd every play we'd be done with this shit.
Tommie Harris seems to be nice and relaxed with his new contract. Anytime he'd like to start playing would be great.
Charles Tillman is great at stripping the ball after the reciver catches the ball. He would do well to work on not allowing the recievers to catch the ball so often.
The offensive line was back to playing like most people expected today. That's not a good sign heading into philly.

Shady, what do you mean he didn't kill us? He threw a pick six to a freaking defensive lineman and hit him in the numbers from 5 yards away.

Hi Shady, thank you for the compliment
I’m a frustrated moron, no matter how you slice it baloney is still boloney, and a loss is a loss. 10-6 will be needed to lose in the playoffs. The Bears may go 8-0 in the division, but 6-2 won’t do the trick. I heard the old Yankee stadium is up for sale, you want in!

Did anyone see the Minnesota game?

If Gus Ferotte can win in Minnesota against the Carolina Panthers the Bears should be able to FINISH up the last SIX minutes of a football game with a TEN POINT win.

Last week the Bears Defense gave up a FOURTEEN point lead to Carolina.

The only reason this team is not 3-0 is the defense, period.

ps...How many 400 plus passing games did Brian Griese have in Chicago let alone his career before today?

When did Orton put this team on his shoulders and win a game for the Bears?

I'am not saying Grossman and Griese are that better QB's , but both have won games for the Bears with the it factor.

Bob Costas said it better "KO didn't play badly."

When is Lovie going to get pissed off ?

I"am sorry my glass is half empty as far as the Bears go this year.
Even though there is some positives, Lloyd, The running game.

Almost rather have bad Rex than this Vanilla Offence crap.

I refuse to be a part of the stupidity that is blaming this all on Kyle Orton when the defense got shredded and gave up 10 points in the last three minutes then gave up the long game losing drive to fucking Grieseball of all fucking people on earth.
In retrospect, those Tampa linemen were punching and shit because they saw it was all over, 4th down inside their own 10 against the best special teams unit on earth. All we had to do was not react. Bad, bad call by the refs but still. Fucked us.

Good news- Westbrook hurt his ankle, McNabb is banged up. Bad news- the Eagles D DESTROYED an O line and QB that are MUCH better than ours.

Bottom line! This Defense has not been the same since the Ron Rivera left. The talent is waining and age is catching up. The secondary looked horrible today. When you let a 35 year journey QB tear you up for 400 yards your defense is in trouble. The way Philly looked tonight it's gonna be a tough win to pull off.

The good news? Lloyd and Forte are new and fresh. They could carry this team into the future. Let's hope Devin Hester is back this week.

BEAR DOWN!

September 22, 2008

#245 Crown said . . .

I don't blame the secondary at all. In fact, I think they played great. Besides that flag, Peanut played unbelievable. He had yet another strip and broke up a sure TD in the end zone by playing the ball as well as you can. Vash had a pick. Daniel looked good blitzing and was a sure tackler today. Payne had an INT and tackled well. Graham came in and played solid off the bench. Griese's disgustingly unfathomable stats were due to their O-line's dominance over our D line. We probably got a hand on Griese only 5 times the whole day. Griese had all day to throw most plays. DD played the run well, but Tommie has not made any waves. I know he is getting double teamed a lot, but he needs to start playing up to his contract.

September 22, 2008

#246 JP said . . .

Are you kidding me? The secondary played great? What kind of football analysis is that? The Bears gave up 400 yards in passing to half an average QB?

That is simply crazy.

I'm not arguing that Kyle Orton is a great QB, but he has done what he needs to do put this team in a position to win. I agree with animal #234 on this one. Any QB debate after the last two games is pure stupidity. If the Bears D stops GrieseBall once on those last two drives the game is over.

#253 Mr.Biggz said . . .

"Shady" I'm sorry but Orton isn't our answer to winning. If we need to win and seal a victory we need Playmakers more than a BAll Manager. Wake up and smell Ortons arm pits punk! All he did positive was in the 2nd half when it was toooooooooo dam late. By the way, lets not give him all the credit, it was his WR Lloyd making the acrobatic catches to save KO's sorry ass! If we need to win over in PHilly (which I hope to God we do) we need to make changes at the QB position now. Put REX in and see what he can do or we can just stick with good old Kyle and talk shit about him week in and week out how pathetic he is. **OHH wait he is Pathetic OOps!

September 22, 2008

#254 Dipweeds said . . .

For all the Kyle haters, yes he threw an atrocious pick 6, but he also bulleted a pass to Dez Clark on the first drive, that Dez dropped at the goal line. Instead of 6, we settled for 3. Deep pass to Forte should have been caught. Another 6.

For a guy that had Olin sitting at his feet for most of the game, KO did alright. I guarantee you this, you would not have seen Rex scrambling down the field trying to make plays.

Get off his jock already. Seriously. Bears lost because of bad coverage D.

I saw the same games you did. The good QB's can control the game in the end. Or win it in the end.
And Orton didn't do that. I know the 15 yard pen cost us the game. Bottem line Griese had more heart to win the game today and he did it to Phily also. Not saying BG is that great.

Engderwiggin.....sorry to say Mr.Biggz is right. He makes some good points and of course a lot of Kyle bashing which are sometimes un called for. But nevertheless he makes an issue that needs to be addressed and that is our QB position. I was at the game and I for one was booing Orton on and off throughout the game. Orton fucked it up for us in the first half, I saw many of our D' guys huffing and puffing toward the last quater or so trying to prevent Buc's win, but unfortunately I;am disgusted by the outcome, we lost plain and simple because we didn't secure the lead!!!!

DON't like Watching
Orton playing QB (it is painful)
Lovie and Orton's bull shit post game interviews (very painful)

#264 Mr. Biggz is Mildly Retarded said . . .

On a normal day, I have trouble discerning what the hell you're saying. But if understand this correctly, today you're claiming that the offense is to blame for the loss because they didn't hold the ball long enough? This caused the D to wear down and play badly. So by some circular logic, it comes back to the offense's fault. It's not the defense's fault for getting themselves off the field?

Looking at the stat sheet, the time of possession was 39 min compared to TB's 31 min, the bulk of that coming in the 3rd and early 4th quarters. Am I missing something in your math? That's an 8 minute differential by normal people math. So explain to me, how that is the offense's fault.
