We're sticking with the one pick format here DaBlog because the one pick format works.
YOUR 2008 CHICAGO BEARS over Atlanta Falcons
(1) The Bears are the fourth best run defense in the game and they seem to be getting better every week. If they manage to stop Michael Turner from dictating the pace of play (and I expect they will), Matt Ryan will be forced to deal with the most complicated defensive alignment he's seen in his football career. I expect turnovers...and a lot of them...from Boston College's finest.
(2) Defensively, the Falcons only real threat is John Abraham on the edge. As long as they locate where he lines up and slide over the tight end (Dez not G-Reg) or chip with Forte, they'll be able to keep him from disrupting KO's afternoon. If there's any time in the pocket, plays will be there down the field. Only that "wonderfully talented" Chargers defense has allowed more touchdowns through the air.
(3) The Falcons have beaten Detroit, Kansas City and a Green Bay team that has a lot more losses in its injury-plagued future. They lost to both Carolina and Tampa Bay 24-9 (just strange) because Carolina and Tampa Bay play good defense. The logic is simple: play good defense, beat the Falcons.
(4) I'd abandon my left side/right side cornerback approach this week and stick Charles Tillman on Roddy White all game long. They won't but I would.
(5) Mr. Tommie Harris. Anybody else got the feeling we're about to see something special on Sunday? Tommie may be a lot of things off the field but he's never been one to not leave everything on it. He's got something to prove to coaches, teammates and fans. A player this great with this much to play for would make me nervous if I were Atlanta.
(6) And by the way, how deep is this team at defensive tackle? They drafted Tommie, Dusty and Marcus Harrison. They quietly signed Anthony Adams last season. They refused to let Israel Idonije to shuffle off to Buffalo after signing an offer sheet. Criticize Jerry Angelo all you want but he knows what he's doing in the middle of the defensive line.
(7) The Bears don't have great individual receivers - though I've yet to see Devin Hester covered. They do have a great receiving corps. I have not been surprised by this team's success but I have been surprised by just how well these wideouts have played. Give me Lloyd, Rash, Book and Skunk working their asses off over the TO's and 85's of the world any day.
(8) Somehow the Bears have become a dominant turf team. Two games. Both on the road. 63-20.
I was tempted...yeah, I'll do it...
Bears 24, Falcons 9
#2 Nicole is cheerin on Da Bears in Greenville said . . .The Falcons are a better team than the Lionesses. They're [the Falcons] are suprising a lot of people. With that win over the Slackers on the road, they proved they can win on the road, against a non-shitty team. (I'm no fucking Slackers' fan. GB is racing down the highway to Fucked-Up Teamville, pop. 5, Cleveland, Cincy, St. Louie, Houston, and Deadroit.) Matt Ryan is the next great, in the bloodline of Manning, Brady, Marino, and yes, even Favre. Roddy White is what we hoped Berrian could be. We absolutely cannot let fat ass "Burner" Turner (Did you see his 66 yd. run against DET? I'm not gay, but the dude has a fat ASS!) "burn" our D. I don't know what the fuck is up with Tommie Harris, but I know he is an All Pro/Pro Bowl level player and he better start acting and playing like it on Sunday. One fucking tackle? Please don't turn into...Michael Haynes!!!! (They were both drafted 14th overall.) Kyle, don't be playing with our fantasies here in the Chi. I have total faith in your quarterbacking ability. Don't make me regret it. If Kyle keeps this up, we're looking at a QB who could be a very respectable long-term option, in the ball club of Campbell, E. Manning, Bulger, even Brees. Forte, we NEED youto play well. Your versatility is a God-send. Anyway, (sorry for writing a fucking book) I want another fucking blowout so we can come home and off those fucking Dike-jobs from Purple Pussy Peopleville.
Fuck the Falcons (just for this week, I'll root for them after their beat-down).
Fuck the Shitty Bay Slackers.
Fuck the Deadroit Lionesses.
Fuck the Purple Dike-jobs.
Especially fuck that Fucked-Up Sorry Ass Pathetic AP (All Pesticide-driven)
Oh yeah, FUCK THE COWGIRLS AND TRAITORS TOO.
Go Bears.

I'm betting that "fat ass" can rep more than your max on squats any day of the week....fact of the matter is that RBs need to be all muscle to fight inertia and make the cuts that they do, not to mention the speed.
I think we'll beat the ATL Falcons simply because of pressure on a young QB....crush the head and the body will not move.

#10 Viva said . . .OK, so last Sunday is was "only" the Lions. But the Bears treated them like what they are: Road Kill. 17-0 at the half should have been more but the Bears took the 2nd half kick-off and rammed it down the Lions' throat and that was that. This LOOK like Tommire Harris out there then let him sit until he is. The current D-Line rotation is doin' just fine, thank you. John Abraham was off to a nice start for the Falcons, but he's dinged up again and was held out of practice yesterday. Another great talent who cannot stay healthy.

#11 animal said . . .When the Bears, unlike any other team, stack 8 in the box, they stack 8 stellar athletes in space they own. They are faster, stronger, intense, and fearless. The 8 guys we stack into the box are flat out studs. On any given day any one of them can create an unmanagable mismatch for the opposing team, and more often than not, we create more than just one.
Where will Michael Turner run?
Our D, for the second consecutive week, will be gunning for a shut-out.

#12 Phil from SATX said . . .Jeff... at the risk of getting accused of dick-sucking, I have to agree. Stop the run, stop Burner Turner, and you have the falcons beat.
Knights seems relatively new but is becoming a favorite by making me laugh out loud. There, more dick-sucking.
Afro, I think you misunderstood him. He just said Turner has a big ass, which is true. That doesn't mean he aint strong as all hell.
I have Turner on my fantasy team. I am leaning towards sitting him but trying to be careful of the favorite-team bias that kills fantasy owners.

#13 Crown said . . .Big Rob, I wish, I wish... You know, not getting too excited too early is TOTALLY OVERRATED. I know this comes from a desire to stay sober, stay reasonable, but all that really boils down to wanting to save face later and not look stupid if it all goes to shit.
Personally, I don't care about saving face or looking stupid - we're Bear fans, right? Our face has been ripped off over and over again - looking stupid is a matter of pride to us! (maybe not as much as Cub fans...)
THIS is the team we thought we were getting going in to last year. The only reason we feel such unease about fully participating in the bandwagon is because of last year.
BUT... this team is also DIFFERENT than last year, at two critical positions - QB and RB. All can agree that Matt Forte is The DM - The Difference Maker. Rancid as usual is on the right track in the last thread - Forte does exactly what is needed. Sometimes more, but always at least that much. My son and I are getting to the point where we just turn to each other and nod knowingly, right after Matty once again gets the 3 and 1/2 yards, or 1 1/2, or 8 inches, or 13 - whatever it takes - he'll do it. We expect it now, but that doesn't make us enjoy it any less or appreciate him any less.
Kyle Orton - now there is the unexpected one, at least to me. Can we call for a stop to those who say "remember Rex was great for 6 games too- then he turned into Rex" - the operative word there is "Rex" - Rex stands alone. He is who he is. He is not Kyle. The things that made him into the QB who lost his job are not viruses - they're not catching. Kyle is a different person from Rex.
No, there is no reason to believe that Kyle won't continue to progress, like he thankfully has been. Someone a while ago said "I'd like to see him do the same thing against a good defense - THEN I'll believe" - hello???? The first four teams he faced had excellent D's. No he didn't win them all but he came close. He didn't implode.
It is entirely possible that teams will ramp up their attack against him - I know I would, because he's burning people, much like Rex did in early 2006 - at least he did in the last game. But I really don't believe you have to fear that he will, like Rex, take some huge backward progression. He's just not the same guy.
I have to once again say that if Ron Turner, who may be the single most improved position on the whole team compared with last year, if Turner continues to ramp up HIS game, this offense will continue turning into something to be reckoned with.
And if he finishes out the season continuing this very strong trend, let me be the first in line to say, "I'm sorry, Mr. Turner. I was wrong. All those hateful things I said (literally hundreds of times), well I just take them all back. It really was just because of the players you had on that side of the field. Mr. Turner, I apologize."
Not there yet, mind you, just getting there.
Keep going RT!
Keep going DM!
Keep going Cool Breeze!BEAR DOWN AMERICA!

#14 Ronaldo said . . .Hub said yesterday that Tommie might be a little messed up from having a kid out of wedlock about a month ago. Every star athlete is allowed one of those, just joking. Seriously, no more excuses, live up to the hype this week #91. Unlike last year though, there has not been a huge gaping hole in the middle of the D when Tommie doesn't played due to the stepping up of several players at the tackle position. DD looks healthier and more hungry every week, he never stops until the whistle blows. Idonije has so much potential and I think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg as far as what he can do. If the Bears pressure Ryan early and rattle the rookie a little bit, I think we will be fine. Animal, I would bench Turner depending on who you have on your bench. We have not allowed a 100 yard rusher this year and our rush D seems to get better every week. But, of course, I am drinking that bias gatorade. This is the week our D earns the respect it got in '06 by stopping one of the best running backs in the league so far. 24-13 Bears.

#15 Chicago Joe said . . .Animal, I'm in the same spot. Got Turner on my FF team, but I'm a bench him this week. Picked up Buckhalter, he should be able to give me a solid quarter before he gets hurt...again.
Phil, good to have ya back buddy. MIA for a couple days.
I think Peanut's in for another strip/forced fumble this week. Seems like for Ryan, what the Falcons have been doing is running quick slants and up and ins over the middle. Peanut's the best in the league in letting the receiver catch the ball then knocking it away. The problem is, the Falcons can use a couple of these to set up a out and up. But I got faith in K.Payne to put the hammer down.
I think the Bears win handily this week. I'll be even more pumped if one of our defensive guys gets player of the week (I'm looking at you #33).

#16 Max said . . .right. the bottom line is, Atlanta needs their running and we shut down running more than the CTA shuts down random lines. We force teams to pass and can wear down other team's D's as long as we dont slack off (ie: classic bad-playing Bears: outscore the other team by 2 TDs and then blow it harder than a disfunctional vacuum)
But we wont do that so I say Bear Down, Chicago Bears. Chicago Bears Bear Down.

I recently started a contest with my buddies, we pick winners of college and NFL games. For the contest Jeff, I'll take:
CHI over ATL (I like ATL. Just not on Sunday.)
NYG over CLE (CLE lives in Fucked-Up Teamville.)
BAL over IND (lost last four home games inc. playoffs)
NO over OAK (Thank God they put sorry ass Gramatica on IR. Now they just have to kick his ass back 2 Argentina.)For the hell-of-it:
MIN over DET (one of the fuckers has to win the damn game, and it sure as hell ain't gonna be Deadroit)
NYJ over CIN (CIN- another resident of Fucked-Up Teamville)
CAR over TB (I HATE TB. Literally. No lie. They're inconsistent as hell and Gruden's an ass.)
WAS over STL (Could the Rams beat JoePa's Nittany Lions? I doubt it.)
MIA over HOU (HOU layed an egg on Sunday. Nuff said.)
DEN over JAX (Garrard is good. Cutler is great.)
ARI over DAL (DAL's D sucks. They should change their nickname to "The Sorry Ass D." BTW, Pacman is a dumb ass with a cinder block for a brain.)
SF over PHI (PHI wants into the exclusive Fucked-Up Teamville. SF is gonna try to run like hell the other way.)
SEA over GB (I always hate GB. FUCK Fungus Bay. SEA's season is on the line here too.)
SD over NE (SD's season is on the line here. Plus, I always hate the Traitors.)

#22 mikebdot said . . .I'll give the Falcons more credit than some, but not enough to come too close to us. I think we'll take it 31-13. Turner won't do too much, but Roddy will beat us deep once for their only TD. Obviously our offense got into gear against a weak Detroit team, and Atlanta isn't much better with the exception of Abraham, so I think we put up another 30+ score. If the fudgepackers can put up 24 on these guys, we can add a TD.
In a weird way, I'm a bit happy about Lloyd's injury as long as it isn't serious. Hester has had a couple great weeks catching the ball in his absence. I would say keep Lloyd out until he's real healthy and when he's back we'll be stronger than we were before he was hurt.
Either KO or Forte should have a monster game. I don't think they can stop 'em both.

You'll understand WHY they picked Wolfe, but not necessarily WHEN...
In any event, the best part about the Bears as a team right now is that most of the players are very likeable. We don't have dickheads suiting up. This is a good thing, especially if we don't make the playoffs, at least we're not out of the playoffs with a bunch of dickheads on the field...
We've been in every game this year, even with the collapses late. That is grounds for celebration. You can't even come close to saying the same thing 5 games through last season...

#26 HESTER TO THE HIZZY said . . .I'm not really worried about Ryan completing long balls to White. He needs time to do that and I don't think he'll have that kind of time, unless they do max-protect and run 2 wideouts.
My biggest fear is Turner's cutbacks. This is a game where the front 7 have got to maintain discipline. No freelancing. Hopefully with a healthy and motivated Harris in the backfield Turner will be shut down.
I don't have any precitions on Offense this week but I predict Hester will take one to the house.
October 10, 2008

#29 Mr.Biggz said . . .#12: He didnt implode? Really? Because I am pretty sure he threw a pick six to a defensive lineman.
I still do want to see him do it against a good defense. Is there something wrong with that? I want to see him play well and BEAT a good defense. I dont think there is anything wrong with asking that before I crown Orton the future of the Bears QB position. It has nothing to do with Rex. Stop taking any criticism of Kyle as a call for Rex.

#30 blogbum said . . .Hello muchachos! BEAR Down biatches, looks like KO isn't going to have a spectacular day on Offense come this Sunday, why you ask? Well first thing, he won't be playing them lions, and this isn't going to be a walk in the park for us. IF he is the real deal, we shall see, I seriously doubt he is going to play stellar like he did with the lions, they weren't even a challenge. AS much as I would luv to see KO perform well and succeed, I'm still not 100% satisfied as him being consistent and accurate on the deep balls. All his hits in lions game were to wide open WR's, any QB can hit a Wide open WR. ppppppppssssssssssssssh!!! Anyways Go BEArs, all this celebrating towards Ko is Bull Shit! HOpe you KO lovers will still be loving him when he's taken out on a stretcher before the playoffs start. It's meant to be and its bound to happen unfortunately, till then enjoy with what you have (Sub par QB)

#41 jeff said . . .Phil: I think it was an implosion... to me it lost the game. These are all opinions though, I am not going to say you are wrong, and it doesnt mean I am right. This is just how I see it. I like what I have seen from Kyle SO FAR. I just feel there is more to be seen until I call him a terrific or great QB. I dont see a problem with that, niether should you.
Animal: When we not have Forte, direct snapping to Hester would be a HUGE mistake. Forte may not be as explosive, but it will work with him and he can take a hit. If it backfires and we snap it to Hester and he gets laid out, it could be a sad day in the Midway. Hester is turning into a legit receiver. I think we need to give up on the gimmicky ideas (screens over and over, direct snaps, setting him up as a twin back) for him and keep letting him mature at the receiver position.October 11, 2008

It's very easy to point at the QB position because he touches the ball every offensive play. That third down call against Tampa was quite possibly as dumb as Houston doing the same thing against Indy a few weeks later...only difference was that Rosenfels IMPODED and lost the game for the Texans (along with the shitty play calling).
