Here is what Mr. Smith says in Brad Biggs' piece from today's Sun-Times:
''I'm surprised whenever we don't sack the quarterback,'' coach Lovie Smith said. ''Everything starts off with being able to get pressure with our front four. If we're not getting a lot of sacks, you should at least see interceptions on the other end, quarterbacks getting rid of the ball quickly, which should allow us an opportunity to get some picks. And if both of those don't happen, it's not a good day for us.''How many games do we have to watch the front four fail to sack the quarterback before it stops surprising Mr. Smith? I'm growing exceedingly more nervous about Sunday as the days pass.

Stop being so stubborn that you can't adjust the game plan when your front 4 aren't able to pressure the QB. Don't be scared to bring the fury.

#10 ncbearfan said . . .I understand that the defense now requires someone to bad-mouth them to get up for the game. My question is: How do they react to being totally embarrassed? That's what happened last Sunday when a rookie QB Ryanized them. Will last week's debacle light a fire under them? I hope so.
It's too bad that we finally have a productive offense and the defense (the team's supposed strength) seems unable/unwilling to step up.
My Urlacher shirt may soon find a permanent home at the bottom of the drawer if he doesn't start leading the defense again.
I no longer pay attention to Lovie. He comes off more like a career politician than a football coach. A lot of vague generalities and half-truths. I get a feeling that he talks to the team that way, too. What a leader!

The ViQueens injury report has him as questionable, but I would expect him to play...hell, I kind of want him to play...maybe he'll get knocked out by somebody Wilber Marshall style?

#19 Cowher for head coach and Singletary for D Coordinator said . . .Animal,
I agree, Lovie is a lightweight, but Ron Rivera as our head coach??
Ron Rivera is as much to blame in the SB loss as any other member of that team. Not to mention his pathetic display in the post season the year before...when Steve Smith made the Bears D look like a High School squad (we sacked Carolina 8 times in the reg season, but only once in the playoffs that year).
Ron Rivera is not the answer, and the 8 teams that passed on him after their interviews would probably agree. Although, he is a darling to the local sports media, and his PR machine is impeccable, Ron Rivera's attempt to divide and conquer the Bears locker room, hurt more then it helped the Bears.
I would be more inspired with Singletary at the helm to be honest, but Virginia will not be cutting Lovie a check to sit on his ass, so we will be stuck with him until his contract expires. Although, I wonder, can we trade him, a la the Raiders (John Gruden)???

#23 enderwiggin said . . .As a fan who sat through Dave Wansdeht and Dick Jauron, I am happy to have a head coach and GM who have gotten us 2 division titles in 4 years, one NFC Championship and Deven Hester. He has his faults and there are better coaches out there, but let's be happy that we have our first annual competitive team since Da Coach. Of course we should vent when we are pissed, but hindsight is 20-20, and we should be far from calling for Lovie's job.

#25 Darnell Wilson said . . .I think that lovie smith suck and should be replaced because of his poor decision making. Lovie's biggest problem is that he plays favoritism with his players. He should have benched orton and played Hanie in our lose against the vikings. And he should play Hester only on special teams.
Oh and why not play Kellen Davis as a tight end and wide out instead of the bench. And he should rotate more receiver into the line up like Brandon Rideau,Earl Bennet, and Kellen Davis instead of having a tried offense.
The players play their hearts out but the coaches don't coach their out.
