I'm through writing and talking about the defense. The coaches stink. The scheme stinks. The players stink. So I'm no longer surprised when they let receivers run free in the secondary and allow quarterbacks forever to throw the ball. The not-stopping-the-run thing is new but not surprising. Stinky defenses will always find new ways to stink.
So this is it. I'm done. Not a word about these guys until something changes.
I'll have something of substance later.
#2 First said . . .First.
This ballclub stinks, but amazingly still hold a three-way tie for the division title. Coaches, Staff, Players, etc need to all take a long hard look at themselves and decide if they want this season to be a wash, or if they want to man-up and take the division by the throat and at least get into the playoffs (where they will probably lose in the first round).
That was a sad sad sight yesterday.

#12 Peanut FTW said . . .Kentucky got me to thinking. Something doesn't look right, feel right, whatever, and I now have a theory.
My theory is that Lovie Smith is currently coaching to be fired. Why, you say? Two reasons. First, I think he hates Chicago and specifically Bear fans. Why does he hate us? My guess would be because of the riding we gave him in 2006, a season in which the Bears went to the Super Bowl. That began it - then it's been continued in the last two seasons, when the riding got worse. Do you think Lovie carries grudges? I do - we see it in the players he doesn't like, who later get cut.
I think he's had a grudge against Bear fans for a while now. Maybe he has the same against ownership - I have no idea about that.
So he hates us - so what? Why should that mean he's tanking it from a coaching perspective?
I'll give you 13,062,500 reasons - that's the amount of money he has left on his 4 year, $22MM contract he signed before last season.
Lovie Smith, I contend, is coaching to get fired right now. If he's fired, they owe him $13MM. And we already know at least one college would hire him today. There's probably more (thanks Kentucky).
It explains a lot, doesn't it? Why no halftime adjustments are made? Why you have a guy throwing to stop the clock at the end of the half? Why you continue to play a guy at QB whose injury is obviously limiting his effectiveness? Why you refuse to play your best wide receivers? Why you steadfastedly refuse to show even the slightest glimmer of interest in and love of this team?
I could go on and on and on and on.
Lovie Smith wants to be fired.
Guess what? I'M OKAY WITH THAT!

#13 michiganfrisbee said . . .Yah that .. was just sickening. The defense was absolutely horrible, ST sucked, and the offense was below First time I've turned the game off before the end, I turnd it off when Orton fumbled and it was returned for a TD.
It was just plain hard to watch, not only did we suck but the calls were all against us, Tillman isn't allowed to touch Driver's butt as he knocks the ball down clean but Harris can hang on to Devin's arm every other play and Bigby can arm bar him 2 seconds before the ball gets there and its all good.
I really thought after the Urlacher pick that the game would turn for us but there was no fire there, noone seemed to really want it. So atop all the other questions about coaching, skill, health, I really just wonder if they want to win or not.

#15 Al In WI said . . .There is still some fire left in this team, I'd say the performance by Mike Brown was evidence to that. With #54 though, he seems to reflect the mood of the team, I thought there would be a turn around with his int and when no one seemed to care, he went along with the mood.

#18 Spanish Bear said . . .Two things stand out to me in the last couple of weeks.
1. When Mike Singletarys team got blown out in his head coaching debut, he walked over to the sidelines and APOLOGIZED to the fans. He also APOLOGIZED in his post-game press conference.
2. Lovie Smith said, We just need to play better....What? Are you kidding me? My six year old could have told you that. In fact he could tell you why your team sucks so bad.
Maybe he is not only playing to get fired, maybe he knows EVERYONE in Chicago has their eye on Samurai Mike!

#19 Pissed Off said . . .Well I don´t know what to say. I´ll try something:
- Yesterday I saw the worst game by the Bears since I started watching football (i.e. 2 years ago).
- Why did we call pass plays at the end of the half?
- Our Oline stinks, it´s almost as bad as our defense. I want to get rid of 70% of our defense players. As that is imposible, I´m very pessimistic for this season and also for next season.
- I didn´t realize that Chris Williams was playing at the end. How was he? (if he did something at all?)
- Why did Adrian Peterson run the ball? Give the damn ball to Wolfe. (Here I start to think Phil from SATX is right about Lovie).
- Pissed Off, I´m also turning on soccer but, as I´m a Real Madrid fan, I´m wondering if I have to find another hobby :)

#21 Albert In tucson said . . .Time to vent. Every bears fan who had to suffer the utter misery of watching that game deserves monday off. That was the most gutless, effortless, dumbass game i have ever watched. We are just a plain old crappy .500 team. Not bad, but not good. Any given sunday we can win, but any given sunday we can make several mistakes that will cost us a victory.
The two players who bother me the most are currently: 1) Tommie Harris... when was the last time that guy was relevent? Somehow with a bum knee last season he was able to set a career high in sacks. He always played hard. He was dominant. This year hes a rich man, but beacuse he had a little bastard child he suddenly can't get to the QB... ever? At this point i would rather just put Harrison in and hope he can develop into something.
2) Devin Hester. I hate to say it but the skunk has not been good this year. maybe hes injured, maybe he is over worked... i dont know. But he looked plain lost and terrible returning kicks. how many times has he just put his head down and run into the pile? Or slipped? Somehow the bears "brain trust" has turned one of the greatest returners in the game into a B-level WR (at best) and a C-level return man.
Intrestingly players 1 and 2 also are among the highest paid in the league.
I dont know how to fix it. I just hope they figure out how to play like they did week 1 vs the Colts when i was excited about this team. the last 3 weeks we have played bad, plain and simple.
No fucking excuses just lock it up and play hard. i would rather lose a hard fought game than win some slop contest (think detroit).

1) Oct. 25, 1854, The Crimea. Lord Ragland "Forward, Light Brigade". In short order, 2 thirds of Ragland's men lie dead or dying. 2) June 25th, 1876, The Black Hills. George Armstrong Custer: "I'm gonna whip these injuns and then run for President". In short order, Custer and 270+ men of the 7th Cavalry lay dead or dying. 3) April 14, 1912, somewhere in the North Atlantic, Captain Edward J. Smith, RMS Titanic: "Slow down? Why, this ship is UNSINKABLE!" In short order, the Titanic is at the bottom of the Atlantic with more than 1500 passengers and crew. 4) May 6, 1942, Northwest Pacific Ocean, Admiral Isoruko Yammamot0. "We shall surprise the American Navy again at Midway and finish what we started at Pearl Harbor." In short order, the Imperial Japanese Navy is missing 4 of it's best aircraft carriers, hundreds of their best pilots and spends the rest of WWII in full retreat. 5) Lovie Smith, Monday, November 10, 2008."Our scheme is good." 6 days later- Packers 37, Bears 3 in a game that wasn't even as close as the score indicates. Yo, Lovie, Mssrs, Ragland, Custer, Smith and Yammamoto thought their schemes were good too. You're just lucky nobody gets killed when you're wrong.November 17, 2008

Actually, what Lovie said was that Green Bay came out with a porpoise, and he famously has a fear of large sea mammals.
-by maddogWhat's happening to my special purpose?
-by NAVIN R. JOHNSON(!)Laughing's better than crying.
Brian I forgive, his mind is writing checks his body can't cash. Same goes double for Mike Brown.
Tommie Harris I don't forgive. He has apparently been solved, or exposed, or isn't trying very hard.
Ogunleye had some heroic words about wanting to watch the tape to see "who's not trying." I agree with the sentiment, but Wale, where the flip have you been over the last several weeks as QB after QB goes the whole game without being sacked? Many without barely even being hurried?
At this point, the same goes for Alex Brown. Alex, what happened to you? You started out like a house on fire! Now, not so much!
Also, why does every other defense in the league (and certainly every defense this year who's played us) understand that if you can't get to the QB, the least you can do is get your hands in the air and bat down some balls? Perhaps even leading to turnovers? We have COMPLETELY STOPPED DOING THIS. We don't bat ANY PASSES. The D we're facing on any given week bats at least 5.
Izzy needs to be playing every down, and told to get his freaking hands up when they're throwing. Maybe tall yet worthless Mark Anderson needs to by employed on the inside too.
Dan Bazuin, WHERE ARE YOU??
(just kidding on that last one)

#24 Pissed Off said . . .I have been saying this for over a year. GET RID OF LOVIE-BABICH-ANGELO. No chance of winning anything with these guys running the show. Say what you will, "oh but Lovie was such a great coach and we went to the super bowl", REAL coaches get involved and dont stand on the sideline looking stoned the whole game. The reason Matt Forte is doing so well is because he played with a similar team at Tulane-they had nothing but Matt Forte. If the Bears do in fact make the playoffs, it means NOTHING since they will get demolished by anyone in the NFC East. Suck it up and stop kidding yourself. The Bears are a disaster.

#27 Nervouspurvisfromsturgeous said . . .I can't remember the last time I felt so disgusted and embarassed to be a Bears fan. Sunday was fucking "ree-dick-n-us". Watching the slackers look like the 07' Patriots hurt. I almost called and cancelled my whole satellite package (and the game was on regular TV).
I didn't think I could get lower than last years Giant's game but this did it.
CT people are mostly Patriots or Giants.
SO MY LIFE HAS BEEN A LIVING FUCKING HELL FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS!!!!
I did wonder why this game hurt so much and I actually had to read these posts to sort it out and it's not becasue of the slackers. Here it is:
1. Bob "Blab-bitch" is trash and we all knew this last year at the fan symposium before the season started.
2. DH could not continue his superman-ness and play Wide Reciever.
3. Urlacher's is great but old by NFL standards.
4. Mike Brown has always been the man but has something to prove.
5. Tommie Harris -WTF
6. Kyle is a baller.
7. Rex is a back up with great potential - not a great back up.
8. "O" line namely "Joan So Scared" St. Clair has been trash from day one.
9. Receivers are like that dentist elf in that christmas special and our corners are the toys on the beach of misfit island looking to be owned.
I can do this all day but one more point:Matt Forte is like Dante, the Bears are Hell and Lovie is Virgil.
This is fucked up. And we all saw it coming so I KNOW FUCKING LOVIE SMITH DID!!!!

I agree Joshywoshy. Rancid should give another team a shot. I'd hate to move over to "the dark side," but Packers fans do appear to be happier people. Hell, they lost their favorite player in franchise history yet they still love their football team.
On a side note, I still believe in Rex. I think he's ready to turn it around.
