See, I told ya they'd win! Oh, I guess I didn't. That has to be one of the WORST "winning performances", ever! Congratulations, Packers! You really had to out-stink the Bears tonight! The Bears may still not make the playoffs, but it won't be because of the Cheese-heads! Don't worry, packers, you can still spoil the Lions "perfect" season!

Jesus, how did they win that game? I love the bears, and want them to go all the way... but I'm realistic. Part of me wishes they lost tonight, so that way I wouldn't have to spend the next week(s) getting my hopes up only to be massively let down in the end.

Ah well...

COLD,HARD, FACTS: 1) The Bears must beat Houston IN Houston. Steve Slaton, Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, tight end Daniel. TALL order, boys. 2) Minnesota must lost, at home to a giant team that figures to rest numorous banged-up starters. OR, 3) Dalls must lose IN Philly - definite possibility, AND Tampa must lose. At Home. To the Raiders. Uh-oh.

We just won an AMAZING game. The blocked kick. Olsen. Forte. Good as Gould.

We are alive and kicking and that is all we could ever ask for at this point in the year. So, can it, shove it, shut the fuck up and enjoy it for a while.

Most importantly: WE BEAT THE FUCKING PACKERS.

Bear Down.

Was that another pooch kick at the end of the 4th quarter? What the fuck? And Adrian Peterson sucks donkey nuts can we all agree on that? What a dumb fuck!

That did not feel like a victory though - what a pathetic effort. I reask - can you imagine how bad we'd be without Forte?

#12 Al In WI said . . .

How? That is my question how?
The Bears were uninspired for the most part all night.
Kyle Orton absolutely sucks. Anyone who can't see that now, just doesn't want to and is flat out delusional. He threw 5 passes right to Packer defenders. Missed the deep ball....AGAIN.
They commit stupid mistakes ala AP and the Jones play on the punt.
They have little pass rush all game, and give up easy third down conversions.
Yet they win the game. How?
Game ball awards: Forte for being the only offense. Tommie Harris for having his best game. Alex Brown for blocking that kick, and the int.

Why do we put ourselves through this every week? lol.

What a defensive performance for the Bears, they were down and out in the first half but then something sparked this team.

Its hard to think that we didnt involved Forte in the beginning of the game. Good thing Turner wised up

This was the craziest win Ive seen in a while, and WE ARE STILL ALIVE!

BEAR DOWN!

ps. go Giants, Eagles and Raiders....

A win is a win guys. Enjoy it!

That said, coaching needs to be changed. Mostly at OC. If you ran Forte up the middle half the amount you did tonight and either passed it to him or ran to the outside he could have had about 200 all purpose yards. Lovie isnt doing the greatest job either, but Ron Turner is a joke.

Heart-attack Bears....back again.

Nice to see Daniel Manning scaring the beejesus out of GB special teams squad. He is a completely different beast than Hester; dragging 3 guys for 10-15 yards downfield is insane on a KR.

Mike Brown - please get well soon. I like Steltz fine and all, but not on run-blitzes. You complete me.

Robbie G - Money.

Mr. Forte - Before too long, lists of your accomplishments will displace the Chuck Norris memes.
You, sir, are a freaking monster. Thank god they remembered that you can catch the ball by the end of the 4th quarter.

And yes, most importantly.

See Lovie is a GENIUS.Tom Coughlin has been trying to decide the last few days who, if given a choice, he would rather face in the playoffs: Minnesota or Chicago.

With the Bears having won in one of the worst performances of the season at home even, Coughlin's thinking now "let's get rid of the Vikings now." SUIT UP BRANDON JACOBS!

Diggler - I have to admit, I was getting a little worried about Corey. Offenses look like they go after him quite a bit. It makes me wonder if it's a matter of them avoiding Tillman or what. That said, he held his own on some plays that put him in space one-on-one against a very good receiving corps.

all year el paso, all year the bears have been giving up 1st downs on 3rd and long.

for whatever reason they stop blitzing and go back into their soft zone and lose track of WRs.

how effective was the D. Manning blitz??

MVB?

1. D. Manning for kick returns (avg. 30 yds? damn.) and QB pressure forcing an INT and incomplete 3rd down pass.

2. Alex Brown for the pick and game saving block FG.

3. Robbie Gould for obvious reasons.

#39 CSauce said . . .

Watching the spark (small though it may have been) that the team came out and played with in the second half, I have a little more faith in Lovie's coaching. What I have NO faith in, however, is the ability of either of our coordinators (BB and Turner) to put together a solid game-plan for 60 full minutes. They each have their moments here and there, but they're just not up to it. The defense today came out and played for Lovie and for the fans like they used to come out and play for Ronnie Rivera. Babich is doing everything in his power to put fairly good players in bad situations. And Turner just can't string together two quarters of good play-calling.

Enough with the negativity. We beat the Pack. 'Nuf said.

a win is a win, but this is our forum to vent out some of the lameness in a team that has the talent to accomplish so much more than they have shown. This team has the right players, it is becoming ever so clear that the coaches are not using or motivating tall hat talent accordingly.

This time last year we had been through three qb's, I think we were were out of the playoff picture by now, we didn't have Forte, we had the "name unsaid", oour O line was broken and old. One of the only things that was going for us was Hester and Gould and occasionally Moose and Berrian werent dropping passes from one of those three qb's.

We are so much further than any of us thought we'd be during training camp when we just wanted a glimps of some news. Now we are two games (a win and a loss) away from a division title and all I know is this feels soooooooooooooooooooooo much better than it did during last year's post super bowl let down season. WoW!

This 3 game winning streak (regardless if we deserved it) is just what the doctor ordered to propel us into the playoffs with the momentum needed to make a major break through and tell all the naysayers "all sports writers and talking heads" (except Trent Dilfer. but especially Kornmuffin) that the Bears can and will have the sports story of a century coming out of the ashes like the victorious phoenix to burn the competition and to do it with only one pro bowl pick. How will that fly in their 'F'ng faces!

Only problem is that these coaches will feel vindicated, but I'd e willing to live with that.

Bear Down Bears! I'll be up at 3am Monday morning in Japan to watch that one keeping a close eye on the site.

P. S.
Question: Anybody want to explain to me how Kevin Jones had possession of the ball prior to going over the goal line and it goes back to the twenty, seems to that he couldn't advance that to cross the goal line for a touchback. What'd I miss on that play, other than I think it hit the Packer's foot?

December 23, 2008

#47 shonbear said . . .

OK I just watche the replay extensively, yes it hit his foot, how come his foot moves with a jerk/twitch right as the ball hits it. Secondly, how can the ball not be on the one, Kevin Jones downs it on the one, yes he runs into the endzone, but say he had caught it on the ten, he cant advance it back to the eight because of his momentum, do I have the rules wrong. It's just interesting to consider how different the game might have been if we had gotten that early lead.

I've been riding this tsunami of Bears Fandom for damn near 40 years now, and I can remember the Butkus/Buffone, Plank/Fencik eras with great clarity...

Back then, the win was nice, but not as important (in a way) as someone in a Bears uni knocking a Packer out of a game with a bone crushing hit. We wanted to be feared, SB be damned...

Of course, the rules have changed so much over the years, that's not really an option any longer, hence, we now just frustrate the beejezus out of fans, teams, and sports commentators because we constantly "accidentally" win. Denny Greene once articulated that for the entire world...

I was sitting in the press box for the 1989, Dec. 17 matchup at the old Soldier Field between the Bears and the Packers, and it was a woeful day - MUCH worse than last night.

Mike Singletary had ONE sack for that entire season, btw, and Neal Anderson was all we had. The Packers blew us off the field by 12 points (trust me, it was bad), and it was damned cold.

This week, maddeningly, we are indeed, "Alive", because D. Manning, Forte, Alex Brown, and yes, even Kyle Orton, decided it would be so.

I think we'll level Houston, just not the way we used to.

My thoughts from the game...

#1: Instant classic. It reminded me of the Arizona game from 2006. We played about as poorly as we possibly could, only to pull it out in the end.
#2: I agree with the general consensus...please stop running up the middle when it hasn't worked all damn game. Also, some swing passes or screens may have been worth trying.
#3: KO is struggling right now big time. He seems to be locking into receivers leading into easy picks. Also, as bad as our receivers are, KO continues to either lack touch on the ball or miss receivers in stride. Case in point, Hester's drop in the first half inside the 10. Should he have caught it? Yes. Should Orton have taken something off on that ball on a cold ass night? Most definetely.
#3: Corey Graham had a great game. I give him the nod over Vash for 2009 if this continues.
#4: Alex Brown has down the little things all year...no surprise he was the one who blocked the field goal.
#5: DManning...great returns and also some very good blitzes off the edge.

Go Bears...beat the Texans and let the chips fall where they may.

Olsen is an enormous liability blocking for Forte. It makes me sick watching it. Especially when coupled with Garza, Tait, and Kreutz consistently failing to touch people as they release from the line. They routinely clog up holes and stand there, NEVER pancaking a single defender.

Why have we yet to see our #1 draft pick? He would be the perfect weapon in the third quarter when we are routinely stymied by the defense. Every single week. Get him some series, Lovie. He is the number one fucking draft pick you goddamn idiot.

And, yes, that first punt touched that Packer. The angular velocity changed. I wish that had been called a TD on the field...grrrr.

Anyone think this felt very much like a win straight from 2001 or 2005? Painful. Every second.

But, Bears fans have to be masochists or there wouldn't be any of us left...

It could always be worse...we could have been born in Detroit...

Go Bears...hopefully for more than one week...

Orton

His play is a combo of the ankle and lack of confidence. Even though he can move around OK that ankle will not be better until the end of the season. Also, having a negative wind chill doesn't make the sprain any better.

December 23, 2008

#56 Urlacher FTW said . . .

I guess the positive is that we can play worse than the other team for 3 1/2 quarters and still win. Twice.

Orton is struggling and I don't know why. Maybe he doubts himself because ever since the injury he isnt as calm in the pocket and he trys to force things much sooner. He wasn't getting protection though and the receivers were dropping catchable passes. Hester had twon go off his hands and he laid a perfect pass to Clark which he dropped too. Anyone who thinks Orton should have taken something off the first Hester drop is well uneducated about sports. You don't adjust mechanics on every play and the window to thro that ball may not be open very long at all, you hit the receiver in the hands and they catch it, period. Hester was at total fault. Hester flat dropped a long ball that was a bit underthrown but hit him in the hands too, I think he was just surprised that thay one made it to him.
And really Rodgers didn't play any better, our D just didn't make the plays; 2 times he threw to a guy he looked at the whole time, once Briggs didn't break soon enough and it was TD instead of a pick and the other Urlacher was turned around the whole time or he could have had an INT. For God's sake Rodgers hit Briggs in the ass on one pass, it wasn't even close, he got away with intentional grounding two times and Payne dropped an easy pick as well. Rodgers can't even throw a spiral for crying out loud.
I do think that Sunday is my deciding factor on Orton, Im throwing out all the good, all the bad, all the ugly and just going to see how he plays with one game meaning the season, this will essentially be a playoff game in a hostile environment.

I posted last night late only to hit the wrong keys and have it go bye-bye. Hate when that happens.

That was a very stirring victory, to say the least. ST was fantastic, Brad Maynard is back to Pro Bowl form, and Robbie Gould was fantastic (on field goals, not so much on kickoffs). How great is it to have a field goal kicker that inspires confidence that he will make makeable field goals every time? He's worth every penny. Danieal Manning is just about as exciting as Devin Hester last year, and unlike Hester, this is one powerful dude - that return was one for the ages, people hanging all over him.

The D was good enough, great in spots, pretty terrible for some spots, but I'll agree with those blaming Patch for some of that. But Patch is also calling some pretty interesting stuff. This D has been able to erase some of its mistakes through takeaways, reminiscent (at least in that) of the 2006 D.

That leaves us with the O. The thing that made that game so infuriating over most of the minutes was the O. I could not believe Ron Turner's game plan and play calls for this game, and that after 12 days to prepare. Where was Matt Forte in the game plan? Where were passes to Matt Forte in the game plan? When will RT learn that we don't have the personnel to run it up the gut, ESPECIALLY in obvious running situations? The answer is, apparently, NEVER.

Kyle looked like he tried to OD before the game on Rex Grossman pills. WTF happened to him? I know it doesn't help when your OC does what our OC did, but I have no reasonable answer for why Kyle was as bad as he was out there. Did we find the temperature barrier where Kyle's brain no longer functions? I cannot buy that the real answer comes from Al, that he has always stunk. I've seen way better from him. But for much of this game, my heart was sinking with the fact that maybe we DON'T have our franchise QB like I thought.

Props to Lovie, these guys kept fighting throughout this seeming lost cause - and since I blame Lovie when they give up, I'll give him credit when they fight like they fought last night. I'm with Csauce (cool name!) - I could keep Lovie but two new coordinators please!

Game balls to Matt Forte, Danieal Manning, Robbie Gould, Brad Maynard, Greg Olsen, Alex Brown (what DOESN'T this guy do?), Tommie Harris (he's baaaack), Lance Briggs, Corey Graham (#21 all over the place last night), and... Lovie.

Kick in the balls to Ron Turner, Kyle Orton, the Oline (what happened to pass protection Oline? since you couldn't be worse on run blocking, you better be able to pass block or you're all fired), Adrian Peterson (two kicks for you, one per ball), Devin Hester (didn't really do one thing to help us last night), and another coupla kicks to Ron Turner for good measure.

As Jeff says, WE'RE ALIVE!!!! Much preferred to the alternative. Looking for Houston tickets as we speak - Ram in SA, where'd you get yours, how much you pay?

This actually stes up well for the Bears.

Next week:
Giants beat Vikqueens
Bears beat Texans
Bucs beat Raiders
Eagles beat Cowboys
Saints beat Panthers (SAINTS 6-1 AT HOME)
Falcons beat Rams

1st round:
Bears beat Bucs (would love another shot at Tampa in December)
Panthers beat Cards

2nd round: Bears beat Falcons (again a shot at redemption in a stadium where they play well)
Panthers beat Giants (like they should have in Sunday night)

NFC Chmapionship: Panthers AT Bears - Bears win.
(hard to imagine that the Bears could host the NFC chmapionship again, but they could!- With one more NFC South chance at redemption)

This is all improbable, but seriously could happen- think about it!

Manning probably should have gotten it for KR, and Gould is worthy of consideration but I'm guessing the winners had high percentages PLUS some long FGs, which Gould will never have.

J. Davis was absolute crap last night except one very important fumble recovery. He makes one wish for Jason McKie, which ain't good. I know he's new, but he is confused out there.

A player conspicuous by his absence was Rashied. He got the benching his recent play deserved. I would consider using him to return punts - didn't he do it before? It seems absolutely clear to me that Hester will not break a big one this year. He's just doing things really differently than the last two years on returns. He had one good one last night though, at an important time. But I wouldn't be afraid to keep tweaking things, Dave and Ron. Glad to see Bennett at least lining up for some plays.

How about throwing Kellen Davis in for some plays? Maybe he's a better blocking lead than Greg O is.

I think the team is going to enjoy playing in some decent weather on Sunday. As much as it supposedly favors the Bears, they're probably a little sick of playing in such poor conditions. Maybe it will revitalize the offense - wasn't there a time this year when we were putting up lots of points? Or maybe I'm just dreaming it...
