Still Alive

Monday, December 22, 2008 | Jeff

The Cowboys. Eagles. Bucs. Vikings. Everybody lost. And there's life at Halas Hall.

Today we had the kind of perfect day Lou Reed sang about (without the heroin) and the refrain from that song is very fitting. "You just keep me hanging on."

Now it is on the Chicago Bears, who'll play for their season under the bright lights of primetime television and a national audience. They have a new life. And tomorrow night they can force the Minnesota Vikings to beat the champs if they want this division. Tomorrow night against the piss and puke. Show up.

I'll be back tomorrow morning with a gameday column.

Whooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great weekend for us! Please don't blow it tomarrow, please!
Anyway any truth to the rumor that the Bears could get the tiebreaker over the vikes even if they beat the Giants? I read that on the sporting news, but I had thought we needed them to lose out.

Al, are you as excited as I am to surround yourself with Packer fans tomorrow as you watch the Bears dominate?

I just don;t see the Giants showing up against the Vikes next weekend regardless of what happens this weekend. Al in WI I'm pretty sure the Vikes still own the tiebreaker.

Al. My understanding is that after we beat Green Bay tomorrow, we will have identical 4-2 conference records. The next level is conference record. Again, after we beat G.B., we will be at 7-5 in conference. The Vi_Queens are currently 7-4 with a conference game left vs. Giants.

The Queens lose next week and we win and we get the conference, or they win and we lose and we have identical conference records and divisions records with a head to head split and I have no idea what happens then. Point Differential??? I have no idea.

Tomorrow night we will see the Bears that completely demolishes teams defensively. We will see the big smile on Urlacher's face. Tomorrow is the night in which the Bears will be fight for their play-off lives. I think there will be a old fashioned smash mouth football fight in Soldier Field. We will see a Bears team with a lot to play for. Let's get it done. I fucking hate the Packers. I think I was more excited today when the Vikings lost than I was last week when the Bears won...maybe not.

Anna, yes I am. But at the same time, I'm a life long bears fan and therefore extremely nervous about having them blow it.
To those who responded thanks for the info.
Looks like cold, and bad weather which should really hurt GB again since they are a finesse team only. Run the ball, and don't let Orton blow this thing!
Beat Green Bay!

Anybody who watched the Giants battle the Pats down tot the wire in Week 17 last year with "nothing to play for" KNOWS the Giants will give 100% against the Vikings. That game was the key to NY's playoff momentum. The Giants will play hard. The question is, will Eli be good enough to beat a solid Vikes D when Plax is gone and BJ is all beat up.

Wow....I am very excited that today went the way it did. I have a problem though and you guys are the only ones that will understand.

I have 4 tickets to the game tomorrow night. It is going to be a HIGH temp of 1 degree. Christmas is this week and then I leave for vacation in Arizona right after that. With so many important things happening, the last thing in the world I want is to be sick. So......my fellow die-hards, it is with a heavy heart that I admit I am NOT going to the biggest game of the year tomorrow.

I HAVE A SPECIAL OFFER TO MEMBERS OF DA BEARS BLOG....

IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE GAME, YOU HAVE HAVE MY TICKETS FOR WHATEVER YOU THINK IS FAIR. Face on 2 of them is 85 and face on the other 2 are 68. If you can pick them up in DG tomorrow, they are all yours.

if you want them, send an email to my work address

brian.bollow@cwine.com

I really hope some good die hard fans that don;t normally get to go to a game take my tickets...it would make me feel sooo much better about my decison,

Brian first of all what an offer. I actually considered it but I can't afford another illness either - my kid started daycare and he and I have been sick all winter. I've spent 2 sundays in doctors offices.

Al that Sporting News article was wrong. Jeff explained in his "I'll hold my applause" post last week that we lose the tiebreaker to the Vikes based on conference record, so if they win then I believe we need both Tampa (vs. Oakland) and Dallas (vs. Philly)to lose to get the last wild card spot. Not very likely.

By the way if Dallas wins we lose the tiebreaker to them based on conference record. Boy does that Tillman penalty look reeeeally stupid now. Although if we had beaten Tampa we wouldn't be talking about tiebreakers to begin with.
